@Harper Alston vs. @Flynn North

Lena was excited to proctor the final duel for this year. It kept her distracted from things going on at home and also allowed her to really learn the skills of students. She looked at the last two duelers. "If there are no questions, let's begin. Make sure to bow, and have at it," with probably her least formal introduction so far. She took a step back and watched the fifth years.

The duel begins now. You have 24 hours from this to post your first reply, or face disqualification. Once both duelists have posted, you will have 24 hours from your opponents post to reply, or be disqualified. Ensure that you use the spell list for guidance on age-appropriate spells, and read over the dueling rules and points system. Please also remember site rules apply, including power/god modding. You can find the site rules here. Duels will run until there is a winner or until 6 IRL days have passed, in which case the winner will be chosen by RNG. If you are knocked out or otherwise disarmed/incapacitated, or if you run out of points, you will lose and the duel will end. Have fun!

As an added note: Spectators are allowed to post in this topic once per competitors post, but are forbidden from directly interfering with the duels.

Here he was in the final once again, not that Flynn was surprised. He was sure he had this one in the bag as well, offering Harper a grin as he twiddled his wand around his fingers. He only did a quick bow before he was upright again, quickly pointing his wand at the girl, "Confundo!"

For the first time in four years, Harper had reached the Dueling Tournament finals, and she was determined to make the most of the opportunity. She had just barely eked out a victory over Ronald last round, and there were plenty of talented duelers in her year. This could be her best and last chance at the title. There was no guarantee she would reach the finals again.

Flynn was a two-time champion, and Harper knew this would be her most difficult duel yet. But she had never been one to back down from a challenge. She bowed before summoning a shield, taking a step back from the force of the attack. She then sent back a babbling curse, figuring her best chance at winning this was incapacitating Flynn as quickly as possible.

Unfortunately, the girl didn't go down easily, but that was okay as he preferred a hard fight anyway. Blocking her first spell, Flynn didn't even hesitate before shooting back with a Silencio.

Flynn was quick, much quicker than Harper expected, and she was barely able to get her shield up in time. Maybe she needed to switch tactics and ditch the shield charms in favor of dodging. It would be faster, and it wasn't like she had to conserve her energy for future rounds. Once the spell had rebounded off her shield, she sent back an "Obscuro!"

He did still hope that one of his spells would just take the girl out quickly, but he apparently wasn't going to get that lucky. Once more raising his wand to block the next spell, Flynn already had a counter-attack in mind, shooting back with a quick Bat Bogey Hex.

Harper was ready this time, and as soon as the incantation left Flynn's lips, she stepped to the side, shivering slightly as she felt the heat of the spell shoot past her. At the same time, Harper sent back her own spell, a jelly fingers curse. It had been somewhat tempting to choose one of the more unpleasant spells — she certainly wouldn't have felt bad for hitting Flynn with one — but those spells wouldn't win the duel for her, not immediately at least. Besides, she didn't really want to watch him — or anyone — throw up slugs or get attacked by bat-shaped bogeys.

He had been quick with his counter-attack, but the girl had been ready for him, dodging out of the way of his next spell and firing back with one of her own in no time flat. Flynn had to almost jump out of the way to avoid getting hit, narrowing his eyes across the platform at his opponent. Okay, she was going to put up a fight. That was good, at least it would make things interesting. "Obscuro!"

While Harper was a little disappointed that her curse had missed Flynn, this was the closest she'd come to hitting him. And judging by the way he narrowed his eyes at her, he knew it, too. Feeling a surge of confidence, Harper decided to stick to her strategy. She ducked underneath the black fabric that had shot towards her head, casting her next spell as she did so. "Everte Statum!"

Once more the girl dodged. At least she was going to ware herself out with all that moving around. Deciding to plant his feet this time, Flynn one more raised his wand to block the next spell before shooting back a speedy Expelliarmus.

Harper felt better moving around on her feet. Even after four years' worth of dueling tournaments, dodging felt more natural. It also allowed her to retaliate more quickly. The only problem with her strategy was that it was easy to inadvertently move in the wrong direction if her opponent's aim was off or they wised up to what she was doing But it was a risk she had to take. Flynn was much too quick at blocking spells to give up the extra split second advantage dodging gave her.

She tensed her muscles, ready to move again. But this time, the spell came flying a little to the side of where she was expecting. Harper had already started to twist her body away, but the spell just barely nicked her shoulder. That was all it took. Before Harper could even process the fact that she'd been hit, her wand was wrenched away. All she could do was watch helplessly as it, along with the dueling title, flew out of her grasp. She let out a frustrated groan before sighing. At least she'd managed second place.

Lena wasn't surprised by how the duel ended, as previous victors tended to keep their title. She checked on Harper visually and then stood up. "Mr. North is our winner. Either of you are welcome to visit the hospital wing if needed." She clapped her hands a few times before taking a step down off the platform.
