Y39 Dueling Match #11

[Katherine Alicastell]

Leading the competitors of the first round to the duelling platform, Katherine gestured for each of them to take up a position at either end, while she herself stepped up to a podium overlooking them. With a tap of her wand in the air, the headmistress pointed the tip at her throat, speaking out in a magically-amplified voice. "Welcome, competitors, to the first round of duelling. As always, the victor of this round will move on to compete in the next, and is brought one step closer to becoming one of this year's duelling champions. Wands at the ready, and prepare yourselves for the duel ahead." Katherine called, giving the students an opportunity to take on a comfortable stance. "Now, bow and commence."

The duel begins now. You have 24 hours from this to post your first reply, or face disqualification. Once both duelists have posted, you will have 24 hours from your opponents post to reply, or be disqualified. Ensure that you use the spell list for guidance on age-appropriate spells, and read over the dueling rules and points system. Duels will run until there is a winner or until 6 IRL days have passed, in which case the winner will be chosen by RNG. If you are knocked out or otherwise disarmed/incapacitated, or if you run out of points, you will lose and the duel will end. Have fun!

As an added note: Spectators are allowed to post in this topic once per competitors post, but are forbidden from directly interfering with the duels.

Ryan admittedly only duelled as a chance to try out interesting spells, but he had to admit he was kind of relieved not to be up against Leia in his first match this year. She was a good duellist, which kept things interesting, but she also tended to make short work of Ryan too. He bowed to Lumio, briefly wondering if trying to jinx his sister's boyfriend's brother was a faux pas or something before launching his first spell at him. "Impedimentia."

Lumio always had a great time in duelling. He had never been particularly successful, but success wasn't why he duelled. He knew Ryan vague and knew of him more now, given the connection with their siblings. He blocked the first spell and then fired back with, "Furnunculus,"

Ryan came very close to letting Lumio's spell hit him; he'd never had a boil before, just normal zits, and while he knew the spell was painful it'd be interesting. His self-preservation kicked in the last minute though and Ryan jumped aside, reminding himself that getting immediately knocked out of the tournament would be far less fun. Regaining his footing, he tried casting a leek jinx at Lumio to see what would happen.

Lumio watched as Ryan dodged his spell and was quick to block the jinx thrown at him. He took a moment between spells and then cast "Confundo,"

Ryan knew enough about confundo charms to know he had zero interest in experiencing that, so he didn't hesitate to pull up a shield charm this time. Shaking out his wand arm as Lumio's spell collided with his shield, Ryan decided to try out a babbling curse.

Lumio dodged out the way of Ryan's spell, knowing that he did enough babbling already without a spell to make it worse, "Diffindo," he shot back

Ryan wasn't quite quick enough to block Lumio's spell, grimacing and grabbing at his robes as it sliced into his shoulder. It made moving his wand arm throb unpleasantly as it pulled at the cut which was frustrating. Feeling more vindictive, Ryan shot a bat-boogey hex at Lumio, hopefully they could both be uncomfortable now.

Lumio grimaced when he watched his spell hit the other boy, and resisted the urge to make sure the boy was okay. Due to his concern he barely got out of the way of the spell and just moved on, casting a trip jinx.

Lumio was moving around a lot and Ryan tried to match him as he dodged out of the way of Ryan's spell. It seemed to have worked against him however, as when Lumio's trip jinx hit him, Ryan missed the platform completely, stumbling and falling right off with a flailing of his arms. "Ow," he announced flatly, disappointed.

Katherine raised her hands as Ryan fell from the platform, to call for the end of the duel. "Mr Skey is this duel's victor. Congratulations. Mr Fisk, please make your way to the nurse to be looked over." She asked. It had only been a small tumble, but even the smallest could be enough for a sprain.
