Y39 Dueling Match #1

Lena was surprised she had been asked to proctor some of the duels this year but always loved a good competition. As she watched the students prepare, she stood in between them on the stage. "Alright, lovelies, this is round one of dueling. Keep it nice and clean, and the victor of this match will move on to round two! Make sure to bow when you're ready, and good luck!" Lena stepped off the platform and prepared to watch the duel begin.

The duel begins now. You have 24 hours from this to post your first reply, or face disqualification. Once both duelists have posted, you will have 24 hours from your opponents post to reply, or be disqualified. Ensure that you use the spell list for guidance on age-appropriate spells, and read over the dueling rules and points system. Duels will run until there is a winner or until 6 IRL days have passed, in which case the winner will be chosen by RNG. If you are knocked out or otherwise disarmed/incapacitated, or if you run out of points, you will lose and the duel will end. Have fun! As an added note: Spectators are allowed to post in this topic once per competitors post, but are forbidden from directly interfering with the duels.

René stepped onto the duelling platform nervously, trying to ignore the gathered crowd as he bowed to Caleb. He fumbled with his wand as the duel began, hurriedly trying to get a spell off before Caleb could. "Uh, uh, expelliarmus!"

Caleb was excited to try his hand at dueling. He knew his brother had done fairly well, not that he was trying to compare himself to Simon. But now that he was finally a second year he could give it a go himself. He grinned when he saw he was up against Rene and bowed back at the other boy. He was surprised as he cast the first spell and Caleb had to cast a shield spell. "Stupefy!" he cast only a second later.

René tried to keep his cool when Caleb sent his own spell back at him. He knew in theory it was coming, but it was way scarier than it had been in class to try and block with everyone watching. René fumbled his wand again, giving up on trying to get the spell out in time and simply ducking out of the way, aware he probably looked manic as his arms flailed. He could deal with bludgers, René reminded himself, a few spells was nothing. Straightening up, René sent back a trip jinx, trying to buy himself some time to get his bearings.

Caleb let out a chuckle as Rene seemed to flail in response to his spell. But his friend's dramatic show distracted him enough that he was too slow to block the next spell. Thankfully he was quick on his feet and was able to stay on his feet. Determined now squared his shoulders and cast his next spell. "Locomotor Mortis!"

Sully was keen to see René take on duelling. He hadn't been expecting too much out of René honestly, and watching his brother flail around on stage was about the level he'd thought René would be at. He did let out a hoot when René managed to hit Simon's little brother though, glancing around to see if Simon was around so he could rib him for it. Maybe they could bet on who's brother was going to win.

René was relieved to see hit spell hit, taking a moment to celebrate before realizing Caleb was getting right back up. It did give him more time to bright up a shield charm, which was a relief, and René only hesitated a moment afterwards to think of a good spell to send back. "Rictusempra!"

Caleb noticed how Rene had to think before his next spell which gave him enough time to full get his balance back and get ready for what ever came his way. He blocked Rene's spell with a shield charm and was ready to send one right back. He cast the jelly legs jinx hoping to get the other boy off balance before he could finish him off.

René had decided that jinxes were much scarier than bludgers, barely getting a shield up in time to block Caleb's spell. His hands starting to sweat, René tried not to drop his wand as he cast his next spell "Uh, Pefriacus, Pertrif- Stupefy!"

Sully's confidence in René immediately flew out the window when it became obvious he could barely remember his spells. "It's Petrificus totalus, you egg!" He called, dragging a palm down his face in exasperation. At least René hadn't messed up stupefy.

Caleb almost felt bad for Rene as he stumbled through his next spell and he was able to block it easily. And he decided to use Sully's shout to his advantage. "Petrificus Totalus!" he cast quickly.

René felt his face flush when Sully called out from the crowd, turning to tell him to shut up. It proved to be a big mistake though, as Caleb took advantage to send the spell he'd been trying to cast right back at him. René felt his entire body seize up and he just hoped it wouldn't hurt too bad when he hit the floor with a hard thud, already hearing his brother laughing.

Lena watched as the second year fell to the ground, wincing. The spell was never fun. She took the stage and gestured towards Caleb. "Mr. Thorne is the winner!" Lena announced before reviving Rene. "Feel free to visit in hospital wing if you are injured, Mr. Tofilau."
