Lars was hopeful for this season of Quidditch. It would be his final one, his final chance to prove himself. After last year, he knew Minnie wanted it more than ever, and he wanted it too. The cup had been in Slytherin hands long enough, and though Lars loved the current Slytherin captain, he still wanted to win this year. The boy felt like he'd been making Minnie take the lead too much over the past few years, especially considering how busy she was. So he had decided to take the lead more during these tryouts, though he obviously would work together with his co-captain. He smiled at the younger girl before looking at the gathered students, a mixture of teammates and new hopeful people wanting to join. "Good morning, everyone." Lars started. "I won't bore you with a long talk. I think we'd all like to get started. Returning players, please take to the air and practice with the people trying out. This is one of the best ways for us to see chemistry with the existing team members. Remember that alternates from last year have to try out again this year. " He said, glancing at Minnie. "Please state your name and the position you want to play clearly," he added. "Good luck!"

OOCOut of Character:

Returning players are guaranteed their spots as long as they post attendance in this thread before tryouts are over. Returning alternates must try out again.

First years must PM me or Emzies if they want to try out. No first years will be allowed to try out unless there are not enough older students. They also can't try out at all until the semester officially starts.

Minnie had let Lars take some control of this try-out, she knew she couldn't necessarily always do things alone and she admit her holiday had left her rather tired, so she was happy (somewhat) to relinquich some control over to Lars, she trusted him, had had to work with him for some years and knew he was more than capable. She nodded in agreement having nothing more to add in particular for once. "What he said," She was rather glad that a break with Blake hadn't caused Lars to start doing speeches that she'd heard slytherin got. Though perhaps it was her who gave all the speeches....

Joining the Quidditch team last year had been more of a flight of fancy than anything Sawyer had actually expected to happen. He'd always enjoyed Quidditch as an observer and he'd found out quickly that things were a lot different when you were actually up in the air. He had enjoyed it though, being apart of the team almost felt a bit like being at home with his family, and it had helped to have something outside of class to focus on when he was restless or homesick.

When try-outs started for the new year, Sawyer knew he'd be back out on the pitch, broom clutched awkwardly. He still felt a bit strange trying out for a position currently held by one of the captains, but at least he knew he had time to relax on the bench for at least another year. "Hey, Sawyer Carnahan, trying out for Keeper," Sawyer said, giving Minnie and Lars a little wave hello before moving over to guard the hoops. He was far more confident on a broom than he'd been last year, and Sawyer hoped the captains could see his improvement. He still wobbled a lot on the rare occasion when he took both hands off his broom to try and field a goal, but his reaction times were faster too, and Sawyer was able to knock away more and more shots as he warmed up. There was no way he could block them all, or even come close, but Sawyer was still pleased with himself as he touched back down to stretch and catch his breath.

Branson was a little nervous about trying out but he'd been practicing, he'd worked with Lily when she'd had the time, and he'd trained a lot with his younger sister. Well, Aurora, Rosie wouldn't get on a broom if you paid her and gotten pointers from his mother. Bran just wasn't sure he was good enough for this. But, the encouragement from his father had been enough of a motivator that he was quite keen to at least try for a position. He didn't think he'd get one, but like his father had said, he wouldn't know unless he tried. So, he arrived at the quidditch pitch with his mother's old school broom, it had once been pretty high range but he knew now it probably was way less so. Branson nervous wiped his hands on his trousers as one of the players, the keeper if Bran remembered correctly spoke. Eventually though they were to get started. "Hi, I'm Branson Archer, and I'd like to try out for chaser," Branson said hoping he didn't sound as nervous as he felt.

Bran took a moment clearing his mind and letting himself concentrate. He went through the usual motions and kicked off from the ground, immediately gaining some speed before chasing after the first person he spotted with a quaffle. He didn't manage to get it off them, but he caught it as it was thrown back out and after some nervous fumbling with it, he zoomed off in the other direction. He passed it to someone else who was out in front and just stayed close to help them, but they scored. He hoped that helping others wouldn't be frowned upon. Branson did manage to get a few opportunities, he manged to score a few times but Bran was sure this was a little down to luck. He felt himself total up as he continue to push in this practice on the areas that needed improvement. His flying was perhaps a little slow, his grip could improve and his aim could too, but he was good at passing and he was good at weaving in and around other people. Eventually the practice drew to a close and Bran touched back to the ground. Perhaps in his mind it hadn't gone as great as it could, but he felt like it had still gone well enough.

Juniper couldn't wait to get back on the pitch and quickly found her way down the tryouts, with a few glittery addition to her practice gear. She loved seeing all the younger faces interested in the sport and was thankful she had made the team last year and didn't have to go through all the nerves again. Her track record throughout their games and practices showed that she was naturally pretty handy with a bat. Giving her captains a little wave, she took the air to start hitting bludgers at potential teammates.

Hattie was looking rather forward to a new year of quidditch. The team hadn't done too well last year, but she hoped this year could be a little bit better. She knew there wouldn't be many positions available on the team this time but was still looking forward to meeting the new people that wanted to join, hoping that there were some good ones. The girl tied her hair into a ponytail as she walked down to the quidditch pitch for the Ravenclaw try outs. A fair few people were there ready to show both Minnie and Lars what they had. It was odd not seeing Minnie say much, but Hattie gave her a smile and a wave nonetheless, hoping she had been doing well over the break. The teen headed up into the skies once the briefing had been done and began doing some laps, keeping an eye on some of the new potential players as she did so. She tried her best not to get in anyone's way and just kept to herself during the whole tryouts. Once it came to an end, Hattie smiled a thanks at both of her captains before heading back to the castle.

Finn had approached the pitch and then turned away what felt like a dozen times today. Playing at home with his sister and trying out for a school team were two very different things. He'd been practicing with Odette from time to time for as long as she had been part of the family, but Finn didn't think he could go as far as calling himself good at Quidditch. Technically, he could play, and that was certainly a fact nobody could deny. So it made sense that he was here, he lied to himself. Anyone would agree, he could technically play Quidditch, and so he could technically try out for the Quidditch team. Sure.

Odette's old gloves and bat didn't quite fit him right but they were the best he had, and Finn hoped he could somehow psychically absorb some of her Quidditch prowess through the memory of the leather and wood. As people introduced themselves and began to try out, Finn felt smaller and smaller and sillier and sillier for being here. But it was too late to back out now, so when his turn came, he put on an uncomfortable grin, smiling wider than felt natural. "Finn Madison, Beater." He mounted his broom and kicked off, wobbling slightly as he adjusted to flight. His limbs felt far too long for the broom he was on but he did his best to stay balanced, spotting a bludger on its way around the pitch and flying towards it. He knew he had to impress the captains so he gripped his broom tight and swung with all his might, unable to hold in a yelp as he barrel rolled around the broom from the force of the shot. His bat had connected though, and to Finn's surprise, his bludger only barely missed one of the other players trying out. Pleasantly heartened, he pulled his broom around and began slowly flying around towards another bludger. None of his shots were perfect or especially graceful, but Finn made far more of them than he had expected to, and despite the aching in his arms, by the time he landed he was unexpectedly proud of his tryout. The thought of actually playing in a match... that was another thing entirely...

Alison was seeing less and less of Linden as the months went on. It's like suddenly her cousin was Mr. Popular and didn't have any time for her. Which she thought was so messed up considering she so got him to reveal his boy crush to Alexei. If it wasn't for her, they wouldn't be the queerest item in the school. Them together made her want to barf. In a good way, not the homophobic way. She didn't care who he dated as long as he had time for her. Which he didn't, and that's the messed up part!

So, instead of being a little sh*t to Linden, Alison decided to tryout for the Ravenclaw team. Give the whole broomstick witch thing a try. If only her dad could see her now, he would bathed himself in holy water to see his daughter flying on a broomstick. He really would, that conspiracy nut. Whatever, Alison was going to do whatever Alison wanted to do. Alison arrived to the pitch just as the captain addressed the group. She steps aside letting the others go first, then, it was her turn to step up to the plate. "Alison Young, I'm going for the one that chases the ball and puts it in the hoops," Alison describes the position until someone corrected her and said chaser. "Yeah, whatever. It's like basketball, except the hoops are on the sides. I know," Alison grumbles and grabbed a school's broomstick from the ground. Alison took off, she went all wobbly side to side. "Aaagh!" Alison clutches tight on the handle, leaning forward. "Come on Aly, you can do this! You can do this, be better at Linden in his own game. He kinda suck, I can so be better at him," Alison coach herself, and correcting her form on the broom.

Alison in time was able to fly and hold the strange ball under her arm. It took a few practice. Way before this tryout, it took a few practice but she was on the ground when she decided to go for the team. She read up a few pointers, which helped that it was like basketball on a broomstick. It's in the air part she had to perfect and the throwing part. She managed to get one in, only one. Alison was relieved to touch the safe ground again. She would so make out with the grass if it wasn't so strange.

Chloe was looking forward to yet another year, and another Quidditch season. She had been bummed about the losses the previous year, but this time, she was more sure that they had a chance at winning the cup. She arrived to the pitch for the tryouts, and sent a small polite smile towards Lars and Minnie. She briefly wondered who Lars would pass down the captaincy to, if Minnie wanted to share the responsibilities next year. There was a chance she wouldn't, though, so Chloe tried not to get her hopes up about it. She listened as both captains spoke, then she mounted her broom and did a few laps as a warm-up, helping anyone who was trying out for beater, giving them pointers and encouraging them. Of course, both her and Juniper were staying on the team, so anyone trying out would be alternates, but those were just as important.

Now that Thalia was a fourth year (a fourth year!) she was beginning to feel a little more confident about being at school, and surrounded by kids her own age. She guessed she had Quidditch to thank for that, as well as the sisterhood, although it was highly strange not having Artemis around all the time anymore. Writing to her older sister wasn't going to be the same, that was for sure. She arrived to the pitch, broom in hand, a little surprised to see her roommate there too. She listened to Lars, then when signalled to she mounted her broom and was in the air in seconds. She did her best to help those who were trying out for chaser, getting in a few practice throws herself when she could.
