Y38 Duelling Match #26

[Katherine Alicastell]

Katherine lead the last two sixth year competitors to the stage, and motioned for them to take their places. She took hers upon the podium. With a tap of her wand in the air, the headmistress pointed the tip at her throat, speaking out in a magically-amplified voice. "Welcome, to your final round of duelling. This duel will makr the champion of the sixth year group. Wands at the ready, and prepare yourselves for the duel ahead." Katherine called, giving the students an opportunity to take on a comfortable stance. "Now, bow and commence."

The duel begins now. You have 24 hours to post, or face disqualification. Ensure that you use the spell list for guidance on age-appropriate spells, and read over the dueling rules and points system. If you are knocked out or otherwise disarmed/incapacitated, or if you run out of points, you will lose and the duel will end. Have fun!
As an added note: Spectators are allowed to post in this topic once per competitors post, but are forbidden from directly interfering with the duels.

The bar was practically in the ground after her previous opponent, but Sydney had been looking forward to her next duel. Simon was one of the few students she actually expected to have something of brain and, even though she still wasn't expecting a challenge, she hoped it'd still be interesting. "Ready to lose?" She said lightly, grinning at Simon as she bowed before flinging her first spell as soon as they'd both straightened up. "Levicorpus!"

Simon felt good about how far he made it in the dueling competition after last year's quick defeat. Yet, when he saw his next duel was against Sydney he was sure that feeling was about to end. But if he had to lose to anyone he would rather it be her, even if he would never live it down. He smirked at her comment. "Not yet but give it some time." he said before having to dodge out of the way of her first spell. "Diffindo!" he fired back.

Simon was quicker this round and managed to throw up a shield charm just in time before casting his next spell. "Confringo!"

Simon's next spell had a bit more firepower behind than Sydney had been expecting, having to quick pull up one of the more powerful shield spells to block it. But Sydney had used the same spell to dispatch Michael, so he'd have to try better than that to beat her. "Like it'd be that easy," she called back to Simon, sending a babbling curse his way in response.

Simon grinned as his spell had managed to rattle Sydney more than he expected. "I'm just getting warmed up." he said with another grin. But he had dropped his guard just enough and had to dodge out of the way of her next spell. He quickly cast a jelly legs jinx but he knew his timing was off now.

Sydney grinned as Simon had to dodge aside, eager to press her advantage while Simon was literally on the other foot. "Not warmed up already?" She called, flicking her wand to block his jinx before firing back a non-verbal petrificus totalus. It wasn't as strong as it might have been if she'd cast it with the incantation, but she was sure with Simon already reeling it'd catch him even more off guard.

[Juniper Zumwalt]

Juniper was glad to see she was dating someone who was at least talented enough to make it to the final round of dueling. Have successfully kept her title for another year, she took a seat gently, letting her body rest as she watched her boyfriend and Sydney take each other on. While she of course wanted Simon to win, she also admired Sydney's tenacity and couldn't wait to see her perform an actual duel. Juniper didn't mind Michael Newton and enjoyed working with him on some eccentric fashion choices, but at the same time, dueling was more serious than he seemed to take it. "Woo!" she cheered as Simon blocked another spell.

Simon was about to think of some kind of quick retort when he heard Juniper in the stands. But before he could react to anything Sydney's spell landed a direct hit and his body froze. He let out a strangled chuckle and tried not to feel too embarrassed since he knew he was bound to lose at some point.

Sydney grinned, stepping back and out of her duelling stance when her spell hit home and Simon hit the ground. "You did better than I thought you would," she said magnanimously, though she was going to keep the fact that she'd not expected Simon to even make to the finals to herself. But there had never been any doubt in her mind she was winning this duel.
