Leading the competitors of the first round to the duelling platform, Katherine gestured for each of them to take up a position at either end, while she herself stepped up to a podium overlooking them. With a tap of her wand in the air, the headmistress pointed the tip at her throat, speaking out in a magically-amplified voice. "Welcome, competitors, to the first round of duelling. As always, the victor of this round will move on to compete in the next, and is brought one step closer to becoming one of this year's duelling champions. Wands at the ready, and prepare yourselves for the duel ahead." Katherine called, giving the students an opportunity to take on a comfortable stance. "Now, bow and commence."

The duel begins now. You have 24 hours to post, or face disqualification. Ensure that you use the spell list for guidance on age-appropriate spells, and read over the dueling rules and points system. If you are knocked out or otherwise disarmed/incapacitated, or if you run out of points, you will lose and the duel will end. Have fun!
As an added note: Spectators are allowed to post in this topic once per competitors post, but are forbidden from directly interfering with the duels.

@Tilly Drage vs @Seraphina My

Current Points: 150

Seraphina couldn't believe she had been paired with Tilly, but at the same time, it gave her a chance to really take her frustrations out. Hopefully, she could even knock the girl down a few pegs and cause more injury to her nose. As they took their places, Seraphina barely bowed and then immediately raised her wand. "Stupefy!" she shouted.

Before their brawl in the Entrance Hall, Tilly would have been delighted to smoke Seraphina in the Duelling Chamber. Now, she didn’t even want to look at her. She bowed to her opponent, or rather, her bully. Seconds later, Tilly raised her wand to protect herself with Protego.

She lashed back with one she hadn’t used in practice before. “Rictusempra!” Tilly shouted. Seraphina could use a good laugh. Perhaps it would keep her from being her miserable self for a few minutes.

If Seraphina was being honest with herself, she was a little nervous for the duel. She wasn't the best student in classes, and while she felt competent in basic spells, even if her grades didn't show it, actually using it against another student at the cost of her ego was nervewracking. Blocking Tilly's spell, she raised her wand and shot back with a basic disarming spell. "Expelliarmus!" she said.

Tilly blocked Seraphina’s incoming Disarming Charm. She would love to sweep the Gryffindor off her feet again. Tilly countered with, “Everte Statum!” since she’d had plenty of practice with this in the Student Defence Association.

Seraphina thought she was ready to block Tilly's spell, but as it cames toward her, she had a momentary lapse in the shield spell and threw herself out of the way so as not to be hit. Fuming by her mistake, she pointed her wand back at her opponent. "Tarantallegra," she said, unsure if it would actually work since she hadn't really mastered it last semester.

OOC: I messed up the points and forgot dodging was a different count. Now fixed.

Tilly barely knew what hit her as her legs started to move on their own. She was no dancer, but here she was, doing the salsa. Luckily, she was able to reverse the effects of the spell quickly with Finite and shot a quick Stupefy at Seraphina. Tilly would never admit that she was embarrassed, but it certainly showed in her face.

Seraphina giggled when her spell hit and was barely prepared for Tilly throwing one back at her. She thought things could just easily end, and she would in fact win the duel. But she knew by now that Tilly would unfortunately not go down without a fight. Blocking the girl's spell, she threw back a trip jinx. Maybe she would fall hard on her nose.

Tilly deflected Seraphina's Trip Jinx with the Shield Charm. She was tempted to make a remark about Seraphina using the jinx face-to-face, instead of when her back was turned, remembering last year's altercation. But she stayed quiet. Instead, she cast Rictusempra again. She really, really wanted to see Seraphina laugh. The girl was always so miserable, maybe a deep belly laugh would help counteract that.

Lillith didn’t care much for duelling and she didn’t pay much attention during dada either, but she came to support her friends who were part of the the tournament. She didn’t know or remember any of the spells that they were saying but it did look pretty cool. Lillith tried her best not to cheer too loudly, not wanting to break Tilly’s concentration.

Seraphina grimaced when Tilly blocked another spell and stomped her foot. Why couldn't she just knock this girl out. She blocked the Hufflepuff's retaliatory shot and took a moment before throwing back a weak jelly-legs jinx. "Are you ready to give up yet, Sasquatch?" she shouted at her opponent.

Tilly winced when Seraphina called her Sasquatch. She had tried, and failed, to keep the Gryffindor's size-related insults from getting to her. A number of foul things to call Seraphina bubbled up into her head. But she was (metaphorically) supposed to be the bigger person. And, she needed to be on her best behavior to avoid getting kicked off the house Quidditch team.

Tilly blocked the jinx and cast another Rictusempra at Seraphina. Perhaps the third time would be the 'charm.' She grinned briefly at Lillith, who she'd noticed in the audience, before turning her attention back to Seraphina. Having Lillith there made her feel a lot better.

Seraphina was too proud of herself and her name calling abilities to pay attention to whatever spell was thrown at her. Taking a few steps back, she felt the sudden, uncontrollable urge to laugh. And laugh. And laugh. Why was she laughing so hard? This spell was dumb. She didn't understand why anyone felt the need to create it. She fought through for a moment as tears started to well in her eyes for how much it hurt to keep laughing. "Stu- hahahahaha, stup- hahahahaha- Stupefyyyyaaahahaha," she got out before buckling over with her hands on her knees trying to remember the spell that would make her stop laughing.

Tilly couldn't help smiling when the spell hit home. She paused for a moment, sidestepping Seraphina's Disarming Charm. She noticed that Seraphina was still laughing. It wasn't as pleasant to hear as she'd hoped.

With a wave of her wand, she cast upon her hysterical opponent. "Stupefy."

Seraphina was so distracted by her laughing that it seemed to fill her skull. The laughing seemed torturous, and it wasn't until she felt a spell hit her chest out of no where that the laughing seemed to stop. Seraphina was thrown back and landed on the ground behind her, flattening against the platform. She had lost, and lost against Tilly at that. Knowing she couldn't just lay there, Seraphina quickly pushed herself up and found her wand. She took one look at the Hufflepuff and then ran out of the Duelling Chamber.

Tilly watched as Seraphina booked it out of the Duelling Chamber. Beating her was not as satisfying as it was supposed to be; it didn’t really feel like a victory. Tilly pocketed her own wand, thanked Headmistress Alicastell, and left. She wondered who she would be paired with next.
