Angel was trying something new this year by helping out with the duelling tournament. He just hoped no one got too seriously maimed or injured in any of his matches, especially not in the first round. Once the two competitors seemed ready, Angel directed them up to their places at opposite ends of the platforms before address them and the crowd. "Welcome to your first round of duelling, let's have a nice clean duel today. The victor will be able to continue on to the rest of the tournament, and the loser will sadly be eliminated. When you're ready, please bow to your opponent and begin!" He said with a flourish, letting the students get started.

The duel begins now. You have 24 hours to post, or face disqualification. Ensure that you use the spell list for guidance on age-appropriate spells, and read over the dueling rules and points system. If you are knocked out or otherwise disarmed/incapacitated, or if you run out of points, you will lose and the duel will end. Have fun!
As an added note: Spectators are allowed to post in this topic once per competitors post, but are forbidden from directly interfering with the duels.

Jasper grinned at Nell as he took his spot on the stage. It would be good to beat her and then tease her about it forever. He was looking forward to it already. Jasper bowed, then cast his first spell. "Langlock!"

Nell had strongly considered sitting the duelling tournament out again this year, but she had decided to give it a try. Anything to take her mind off the conflicting feelings she had had about Jasper ever since their arranged date for the Yule Ball. And yet, of course. It was only natural with Nell's luck that she had been paired up with just the person she didn't want to be. Trying not to act weird, she stuck her tongue out to Jasper as she bowed to him, hoping things could get back to normal after their kiss. She hadn't had any of these problems with anyone else. Her worries made her slow on the draw though, and Nell had to quickly block Jasper's spell before firing back one of her own. "Stupefy!"

Duelling Nell was both fun and a bit strange. Things had been a bit weird between them since the yule ball, and Jasper had a hard time forgetting that they'd kissed. But Nell had kissed a lot of people, so he knew it couldn't be that big a deal. He blocked Nell's spell and cast one in return. "Confundo."

As nice as it would be to take an opponent down in one hit, Nell had no illusions about this duel. Jasper was a much better dueller than she was. So she was ready with a shield charm to block his spell, firing back another of her own quickly. "Incarcerous!"

Nell knew Jasper went all-in on duels, but she hadn't expected him to set her on fire. A loud shriek escaped her as she realised her robes were burning, quickly moving to put them out. "Aguamenti!" Once she was no longer on fire, Nell quickly fired back at Jasper. "Levicorpus!"

Jasper immediately regretted his spell as he watched Nell's rose be set on fire. He almost ran forward to help her, but saw she put out the fire on her own. His concern distracted him enough that he failed to block Nell's next spell, and with a yelp, he was hoisted into the air by his ankle. Jasper cursed while hanging upside down in the air, but realized what he should do. He sent a spell at her from the air, hoping that it would catch her by surprise."Tarantallegra."

Nell was pleasantly surprised that her spell had actually managed to hit, giggling as Jasper was hoisted into the air. She was giggling so much she didn't even think to block his next spell, yelping in alarm as her legs began skittering about all over the place in some kind of elaborate jig. "HEY!" Nell yelled, trying and failing to get control of her legs. With nothing left to do, she did her best to aim for Jasper again, firing a bat-bogey hex at him.

The blood was starting to rush to Jasper's head, which was not a very pleasant feeling. He flapped his arms around in the air, but it didn't do much. Though he started to laugh as Nell started to dance, and managed to throw up a shield charm to block her next one. "Looking good Nell!" He called jokingly, still dangling upside down. He then sent a disarming spell her way.

Nell knew she wasn't the world's most graceful dancer at the best of times, but right now she felt like a ragdoll being thrown about hither and yon. She wasn't even really trying to dodge Jasper's spell, more focused on her wayward legs, which just happened to fling her out of the way by sheer luck. Gripping her wand tightly, Nell tried hard to aim as she fired back at Jasper. "Stupefy!"
