Angel was trying something new this year by helping out with the duelling tournament. He just hoped no one got too seriously maimed or injured in any of his matches, especially not in the first round. Once the two competitors seemed ready, Angel directed them up to their places at opposite ends of the platforms before address them and the crowd. "Welcome to your first round of duelling, let's have a nice clean duel today. The victor will be able to continue on to the rest of the tournament, and the loser will sadly be eliminated. When you're ready, please bow to your opponent and begin!" He said with a flourish, letting the students get started.

The duel begins now. You have 24 hours to post, or face disqualification. Ensure that you use the spell list for guidance on age-appropriate spells, and read over the dueling rules and points system. If you are knocked out or otherwise disarmed/incapacitated, or if you run out of points, you will lose and the duel will end. Have fun!
As an added note: Spectators are allowed to post in this topic once per competitors post, but are forbidden from directly interfering with the duels.

Padme never did too well in the duelling but she was always happy to try. She liked the duelling. She bowed at the boy she was paired against. She gave him a little smile and then went to the spot. She held up the wand and then cast, "Incendio,"

Simon was pleasantly surprised he was not be facing Sydney in the first round like last year. Maybe he actually had a shot this time. He didn't recognize the the girl in front of him even thought they were apparently they were in the same year. He smiled and bowed, before quickly casting the shield charm as she stuck out first. "Confundo." he cast, hoping to catch her off guard.

Unsurprisingly his first spell didn't hit, and Simon was surprised how quickly Padme moved. But he didn't hesitate either and blocked her spell. "Furnunculus!" he cast next.

Simon smirked when she had to dodge to avoid his spell. He was feeling more confident and blocked her next spell easily. "Stupefy!" he cast quickly, trying to catch her off her guard.

Simon noticed that her shield barely did it's job, and in the spit second it took for him to process that she had cast her next spell. He was too slow to dodge or cast his shield and felt the spell hit as he felt himself starting to be pushed around. Thankfully the spell was weak and he was able to keep his footing. "Diffindo!" he cast the moment he caught his balance enough to fire back.

Padme was a little surprised but pleased when her spell hit. She had to do her best to get a shield up for his spell, but it barely held. She wasn't very good at this, though she always tried her best. She shot back quickly with a Knee-reversing hex.

Simon was annoyed he had managed to get hit at all but he held his ground and quickly threw up a shield spell easily. He was also growing irritated as none of his spells had seemed to land so he decided to keep his next spell simple. "Petrificus Totalus!"
