Professor Styx leads the two contestants to the stage, appointing them into the north or south part of the stage. He reveals the rules as well as the point system. He walks off the stage and orders the duel to begin, as he keeps a watchful eye.

All right, make sure that you use the spell list for guidance. No board rule breaking is acceptable. Have fun! I have a copy of the code that you should use with every post. Remember, when you are knocked out, unable to shoot anymore spells, you lost. And if you run out of points, you lose.
The duel begins now. If someone doesn't post after 24 hours, they are disqualified.
As an added note: Spectators are allowed to post in this topic once per competitors post, but are forbidden from directly interfering with the duels.

Alistair Lancaster was no stranger to Phoebe. He was the boy she had faced last year int he duelling tournament, and the boy who had beaten her, to her chagrin. Phoebe really hoped she would be able to make up for that today, and planned to catch him off guard. So after bowing, she immediately sent a spell his way she hoped would surprise him. "Incendio!"

Aeon stood behind the crowd of students gathered around the dueling stage, because Jesse posted under the wrong account so here we are. The Transfiguration professor cheered for his young cousin's victory, happy to see him doing more with his time and energy instead of sticking to the background.

This was the duel Alistair felt would make or break the justification behind his title as President of the SDA, and he needed to make it count. The werewolf dipped toward his opponent, a spell already on his tongue, but by the time he raised his wand it seemed that Phoebe had already beaten him to the punch. "Aguamenti." He managed to incant in time, quenching the oncoming flames with a jet of water. "Graviatus!*" He fired back immediately after in an effort to make up for the loss of the first strike, with a spell he'd learned specifically in preparation for the tournament.

Phoebe grinned as her opponent blocked her fire with water. That was pretty interesting. She prepared a shield charm to block his next spell, and threw it up before she had time to be surprised and shocked that it was one she didn't know. Staring at him for a beat, she then quickly regained her composure. She still wanted to beat him very badly, but also wanted to know how he learned that spell. She was also curious what it did, but not curious enough to let herself be hit by it. Phoebe quickly shot another spell. "Impedimentia!"

Alistair quietly hissed through his teeth as Phoebe blocked his spell, though it appeared to surprise her long enough for him to ready his own defense. He conjured up a shield against her impeding charm, and followed it up with an attempt to blind her. "Obscuro!"

Getting over her shock, Phoebe forced herself to focus on the duel at hand again. She knew she shouldn't underestimate Alistair, as she assumed he wasn't the president of the student defence alliance for nothing. She blocked his spell, stepping back slightly. Then she shot off another spell at him. "Langlock!"

Alistair knew he needed to be faster if he wanted to win this duel, and waiting for a shield to dissipate took away precious seconds of time. As soon as the last spell left Phoebe's lips, Alistair dove to the side to avoid it, simultaneously throwing a jelly-fingers jinx toward the Ravenclaw in the process.

Phoebe grinned as she made the boy dodge her spell, but hadn't expected him to retaliate immediately while he was dodging. Phoebe had to dodge too, crouching on the ground quickly to avoid the spell that whizzed over her head. From her new position on the ground, she cast a spell at the Slytherin. "Stupefy!"

Alistair raised his wand for another protego, only just redirecting the tip in time to deflect the incoming spell from below. He breathed a sigh of relief as the jet of red light bounced and fizzled away, and flicked his wand toward Phoebe's position low to the floor. It had been a close call, and for a moment he was sure his heart skipped a beat, to think it could have ended then and there. "Serpensortia." He practically hissed, conjuring forth a scaly blur of green that coiled through the air. As the snake landed across the stage, it uncoiled itself and began to slither dangerously close to the Ravenclaw, its tongue lashing out to taste the air.

Phoebe prepared to block Alistair's next spell while crouching low, but wasn't expecting him to use the spell he did. She could throw up a shield, but that wouldn't make the snake disappear from the field. She glanced at Alistair, a moment in which admiration was visible on her face. He was definitely thinking outside the box. But her thought about disappearing gave her an idea. "Evanesco!" She called, pointing her wand at the snake. She was grateful to Professor Burke for making them practice the vanishing spell so often, and was relieved when the snake disappeared. She didn't spare a moment of sadness for the creature, too focused on trying to win this. She got to her feet and shot her next spell at the boy. "Obscuro!"

The snake bought Alistair enough time to think, though his brows furrowed at how quickly Phoebe had managed to remove it from the equation. It was smart, vanishing it like that rather than wasting a turn trying to throw up a shield, but his thoughts didn't linger on it. Instead, he took a step forward, wand raised in preparation for whatever came next. Obscuro was one he'd used this duel already, and to see her try the same move against him brought a small smile to his lips. "Diffindo!" He incanted, slicing his wand at the oncoming spell. Two strips of black fabric settled at either side of his feet, and he waved his wand again, this time uttering a hair-lengthening charm with more determination in his voice than one would usually put in to such a mundane-seeming spell. He hoped to lower her guard with what may have been viewed as an innocent enough spell, though he had every intention of growing it to such a length that it posed a threat of tripping her up if she moved about, or simply getting in her face enough to blind her as the attempted obscuro would have done, if it proved successful.

Phoebe felt a bit frustrated as the boy blocked her spell, or deflected it in any case. It was a pretty smart move. Phoebe wasn't fast enough to dodge his next spell, which was a hair-lengthening charm. She cursed, forgetting for a moment a teacher was present. As far as spells went that she could be hit with, this one wasn't too bad, but she also knew she shouldn't underestimate it. Her hair was already fairly long, and it growing would soon start to slow her down. She could already feel it getting longer and knew it wouldn't take long for it to become a tripping hazard. Someone with short hair like Alistair might have a bit longer before it became annoying. That, combined with the spell the boy had just used, gave her an idea. Quickly gathering her hair together as much as she could, Phoebe pointed her wand at it. "Diffindo!" She called. The largest part of her hair was cut off, and she threw it to the side without much thought. Magic could fix this, probably. Her hair was now a lot shorter, chopped unevenly and hanging strangely around her head. But Phoebe wasn't paying attention to it anymore. She wasn't sure if cutting it would stop the spell from working, but knew it would at least give her a bit more time even if her hair kept growing. "Incarcerous!" She cast, hoping to catch Alistair off guard even if she knew she wasn't as fast as she could have been. Cutting her hair had taken some time, even if she'd done it quickly. "

Charlie was glad to have a chance to watch Phoebe's duel after one of her own, happy to support her girlfriend. Charlie definitely wasn't the cheering type - the polar opposite in fact - but she was proud of Phoebe's spellcasting skill, and loved watching her duel. She was already enjoying the duel on its own merits, but she couldn't help choking out a disbelieving laugh as Phoebe hacked off most of her hair seemingly without a second thought. She felt a surge of affection for her girlfriend, and despite herself, Charlie let out a supportive whoop, still laughing slightly as she called out. "YEAH, PHOEBE!"

Alistair's jaw clenched as Phoebe performed an impromptu haircut mid-duel. He hadn't been banking on that, but it gave him enough time to prepare. When the girl's cropped hair fell back into place, Alistair had to stifle a laugh at how ridiculous she looked with the new style. The lengths they'd go to - or chop off - for this duel were crazy, but the boy was itching for it to end, with him on top. As his opponent conjured rope to ensnare him, Alistair raised his wand and knocked it back with a banishing charm. "Stupefy!" He followed up, sending the stunning spell spiraling her way.

Phoebe was really enjoying the duel, her opponent was certainly someone who she could have a fun fight with. She grinned as she heard Charlie call for her, and she managed to block Alistair's next spell. She sent one at him in return. "Levicorpus!"

Alistair made an attempt to step out of the way of the next incoming spell, hoping to try gaining the upperhand again by foregoing a protego. His foot never reached the ground in his step as, too slow to move aside, the werewolf was caught by the spell and hoisted into the air by his ankle. He let out an undignified yell, surprised to suddenly find the dueling chamber now upside-down in his vision. Stair fumbled with his wand, disorientated by the whole experience, but managed to stop swinging in the air long enough to fire off a spell of his own. "Expelliarmus!"

Phoebe grinned when she saw her spell hit, but quickly realized being upside down didnt stop him from being dangerous. She ducked from his spell because there wasn't enough time to put up a shield. Then she cast one of her own. "Stupefy!"

Dangling from his ankle was not a situation Alistair considered ideal, and he could practically feel his face growing redder by the second from the pull of gravity. It took some effort to avoid swaying too much, but as Phoebe fired off her next spell, Alistair jabbed his wand towards his suspended ankle. "Liberacorpus!" He shouted, immediately finding the ethereal grip on his foot released in time for him to plummet to the stage. He fell, the jet of red light from the Ravenclaws stunning charm narrowly whisking over him, and hit the ground with a solid thud. With a groan, the teenager lifted his chin to better face Phoebe, having traded one upside-down view for another, and raised his aching wand arm toward her. "Langlock!"

A small laugh escaped Phoebe when the boy let himself fall to the stage, though she was a bit annoyed that it caused her spell to miss. She stayed on her guard, knowing by now that falling wouldn't stop Alistair from continuing. Phoebe blocked his spell with a shield charm, then fired off another spell of her own. "Confundo!"

Alistair couldn't risk getting up from where he was and leaving himself vulnerable. Not until Phoebe made her move. He waited until he heard the incantation leave her lips, and from the floor threw up a quick protego to cover himself. Using the time the shield was up, he scrambled to his feet and raised his wand back toward the Ravenclaw, watching as his shield dissipated under the impact of her confundus charm. He brought his free hand up to cover his mouth, hoping that obscuring her sight of his lips moving would be enough to get her to defend too slowly, and after a beat he softly incanted "Silencio."

Phoebe was glad Alistair got back on his feet. It made them more equal, and him more predictable. She hoped. She frowned when he covered his mouth, but put up a shield right before he cast a spell. It was blocked by her shield, and she quickly retaliated. She hoped speed would get him. "Petrificus Totalus!"
