All right, make sure that you use the spell list for guidance. No board rule breaking is acceptable. Have fun! I have a copy of the code that you should use with every post. Remember, when you are knocked out, unable to shoot anymore spells, you lost. And if you run out of points, you lose.

The duel begins now. If someone doesn't post after 24 hours, they are disqualified.

Jerara didn't always participate in the duelling tournament but this year he had and he was up against his only school friend, Tristan. It felt a little weird to be fighting him and really Jerara just wanted the opportunity to test out a few spells. See if they worked at all. He didn't particularly want to win, and would be happy if Tristan did, but he would still give it a fair shake. He bowed and got into the right position. His gaze shifted a little as he raised his wand and said, "Incarcerous,"

Tristan had been looking forward to the dueling tournament all year. He had won for his year twice in a row now, and definitely wanted to defend his title. He was relieved October wasn't his first opponent, but Jerara wasn't much better. The boy was his best friend and also extremely smart, but Tristan wouldn't let that stop him. He was going to win this. He blocked the boy's spell, then quickly sent one his way. "Stupefy!"

Jerara figured that Tristan would easily block his spell, but he couldn't help the little chuckle as his friend sent back, stupefy. They were sixth years, they had better spells. He sent quickly back a stinging hex, figuring that sort of spell if it hit wouldn't put him out of commission but would be good fun.

Tristan knew Jerara well enough to know the boy didn't appreciate or understand his strategy. Tristan wasn't here to try out interesting spells or play around with magic, he was here to win in the most effective way possible. He blocked Jerara's spell, rolling his eyes a little. "What are you trying to do, annoy me?" He asked, genuinely unsure what the purpose of a stinging hex was in the duel. "Langlock." He cast. It would probably stop Jerara from casting spells as much if it it, as Tristan didn't think he'd be very good at nonverbal. But it was also a bit more creative than what he had done so far. Jerara better appreciate it.

Jerara wasn't surprised at how easily his friend blocked his curse. They were both sixth years, and Jerara knew that Tristan had won several duelling competitions for their year group. He just thought it was dull to use such an old and ultimatley boring spell, "Fight me properly then," the boy challenged with a little chuckle, he just wanted this to be a duel where they could stretch their own magic, so he was glad, when the spell that Tristan sent him was something that had a little fun in it. Jerara blocked it, using one of the advanced protegos that they were learning about in Defence against the dark arts, "isn't that more fun?" he joked before sending back "Obscuro,"

Tristan scowled at his friend as he told him to fight him properly. He had been. Jerara was the one goofing off. He rolled his eyes as Jerara showed off with the more advanced shield charm, then answered his question. "No." He said, blocking his spell with his own shield. "Besides, this isn't about fun." He then cast another spell at him. "Levicorpus."

Jerara couldn't help but roll his eyes at his friend. He blocked the spell that raced towards him, using again the last shield spell they'd learned in defence against the dark arts. Why not use what they'd just learned in this setting. "Why can't this be fun? Push yourself a little to enjoy your victories more," the prefect returned. They'd been friends since first year, they were now in their second last year with a whole host of interesting spells under their belt. He didn't waste any more time, "Confringo," he said without hesitating as he threw a fairly violent spell towards his friend.

Tristan rolled his eyes too. "I'll start having fun when I have a victory." He shot back. He wondered how Jerara could not see the logic of that. If he didn't care about winning, why was he in a tournament? Tristan cursed under his breath when Jerara sent a curse at him that would have made him explode if it hit. His friend really had a strange sense of 'interesting' spells. Tristan blocked it, then glared. "Stupefy." He said pointedly as he cast the spell at his friend. He would play his own game, and it would help him win.

Jerara was sure that if he rolled his eyes any more at his friend then they'd roll right back into his head. He knew that Tristan was like that, he liked winning, and Jerara just didn't understand why he wouldn't also enjoy the fight. Stretching themselves as wizards, pushing their own abilities further. When Tristan sent back another stupefy he just loudly groaned as he carelessly block the spell. "Really? Again," he said, but he didn't care, Tristan could use his dull method, and Jerara could just continue his method. So he fired back quickly, sending a cheering charm at the boy, maybe that would lighten his mood.

Tristan was starting to get annoyed with Jerara as he complained about his spell choice. He blocked Jerara's spell in return, glaring at him. "A cheering charm? You're not taking this seriously." He snapped, tense and unhappy. It was just like Jerara to do whatever he wanted, without regard for unwritten rules and still get the recognition for it. He hadn't worked as hard as Tristan had but they had the same prefect badge to show for it. It just so happened that the things Jerara liked to do were also things he got recognition for, while for Tristan it was way more of a chore. It wasn't fair. "Petrificus Totalus!" He cast his next spell with a bit more venom, as worries about which one of the two of them would become head boy next year nagged at him from the back of his mind.

Jerara just grinned at him when he accused him of not taking this seriously. He wasn't really. Jerara fully expected Tristan to win, he would happy with that outcome but Jerara was still going to do all that he could to have a good time, and let this be a good fight. So, maybe if Tristan really wanted to take it seriously, he should. He blocked the spell that Tristan sent but the shield he had up seemed to absorb a lot of impact. had he touched a nerve with his friend? "Fine, I'll take this seriously," he gripped his wand a little tighter and threw back a Gubraithian Fire spell, putting all of his attention, focus and determination on it as he cast it.

Tristan was filled with the urge to beat Jerara at this. The two had been friends, but Jerara was also his competition in many ways. He had to beaet him in this duel, he couldn't be knocked out in the first match. Especially not when Jerara was hardly making an effort. But then the boy cast a spell that Tristan hadn't expected. He gasped and threw up the most powerful protego he knew, his eyes widening in shock. He stared at his friend for a moment, stunned. Had he really just tried to use a spell that dangerous? After his shock, anger returned in full force. Quickly, he tried to regain himself. He couldn't let Jerara shock his way to victory. "Obscuro." He cast, his voice a little more quiet and focused now.

Jerara could feel that maybe the spell had been a little dark for his friend, it was a little harsh, but Jerara wanted to make it clearer that he was concentrating. It was almost ironic that in his thinking of the next spell, he forgot to focus on Tristan and was hit with a spell that took his vision, "Aguamenti," the boy fired back without hesitation, the spell had been on the tip of his tongue as the other spell had hit so it launched a jet of water at him. He took the time to to cast a quick finite, bringing his vision back

Tristan grinned as his spell hit Jerara. He finally had the upper hand, as he was sure Jerara wasn't going to be able to hit him quickly. He was waiting for Jerara to remove the spell, so had his guard down for Jerara's spell. He was splashed with water, soaking the front of his robes. Tristan knew he was lucky it hadn't been a worse spell, but the humiliation bit at him. He growled and shot another stunning spell at Jerara. "If you're not trying to win, get out of my way!" He shouted in frustration. Couldn't his friend step aside for him if he didn't care anyway? The water was dripping from his robes onto the stage, and Tristan was tired of this duel.

In any other occasion with his friend, Jerara might've suggested when the spell hit that he cool down, but Tristan wanted him to take it seriously. Or well, as Jerara blocked the easy stunning spell that Tristan sent, he wanted him to just give up. To fight by Tristan's standards instead of his own. Just because he could see the fun in just fighting with the magic they learned he shouldn't bother. "Diffindo," the Ravenclaw sent back quickly, he'd happily concede to Tristan, but he'd have to earn it by Jerara's standards

Tristan was focused on nothing else but Jerara and his movements during the duel. He needed to win this, knew he couldn't afford to lose right now. He had hoped the boy would react to his words, maybe even actually step aside to let him win. But he should have known better. He blocked the boy's next spell with a snarl, then cast one at him. "Confundo!"

Jerara was more focused and driven than he'd even been. A usual focus he reserved for a good book. This was his only friend and he was itching to use some of the spells he'd read about in books about magic that was certainly beyond him. It was almost that he wanted to prove a point to Tristan, the other boy was better put together, more charming and engaged in school, he was intelligent, but Jerara wanted to show that he was more intelligent. He hadn't necessary wanted to win this, but he'd make Tristan really work for it. He blocked the spell with ease, using the protego spells from this year. He didn't stop to even consider what he threw back, "Silencio," they hadn't really started on non-verbal magic, so that would limit his spells.

Tristan didn't understand what Jerara was trying to prove. He knew his friend and knew he was in this tournament to try out spells, not to win. So why couldn't he just let Tristan win? It wasn't fair. Jerara didn't even want the glory. Tristan angrily blocked the boy's spell, his movements quick and aggressive now with each spell he cast or blocked. "Incarcerous!"

As soon as Tristan had fired his spell, Jerara practically growled, "Incendio," hitting the other spell dead on as the ropes caught alight. Watching that hit, the power in his own anger and Tristan's merging snapped Jerara half out of it. Tristan was his friend...his only friend. This anger in him towards him was all consuming as he took deep breaths trying to settle it, he felt more aware of it, but unable to really shove it down. As the ropes continued to burn illuminating them both in the fire's slowly dying glow, he didn't raise his gaze to Tristan.

Tristan was breathing faster, the duel tiring him out quickly. He noticed with a start that Jerara seemed... angry. He had never seen his friend angry before, and Tristan wondered what he had done wrong. Had he been wrong in assuming Jerara didn't want to win? But he'd seemed so laid back and casual about the duel in the beginning. The flames of Jerara's spell collided with the ropes of his own, causing a rather spectacular view. Tristan stared at Jerara for a moment between the flames, trying to figure out what was wrong. But his friend didn't look at him, and Tristan knew he had to continue. Not even for their friendship could he give up a win. "Diffindo." He said, his voice quiet as he focused his spell. He was trying to duel on Jerara's level, but he didn't know if he dared try the spells the other boy had tried. He wanted to win, not hurt him badly.

Jerara was brought suddenly back when a searing pain sprung in his arm. He looked at it, and watched as blood began flowing from this new wound he had, dripping down his arm and on to his wand. As his mind snapped out of it, he sent back a trip jinx, an instant reaction to the spell that had hit, this sudden need to best his only friend and the still present anger. His gaze had shifted from the blood dripping slowly down his arm, and up to his friend, Tristan. Jerara's anger was not coming from a place he entirely understood, his desire to learn all types of magic was not because he wanted to harm anyone, but this anger, this fight, was bringing it out in him, a desire, deep desire to show himself to be more powerful. Bring himself this victory to prove to Tristan that he was better and in that anger a willingness to hurt his friend.

Tristan hadn't expected his spell to hit, and he grimaced at the sight of the blood. Was this what Jerara had wanted? A stunning spell would have been more efficient, less painful, and would have actually won him the duel. But no, Jerara had goaded him into using different spells, and now he seemed angry about it. Tristan blocked the trip jinx the boy sent his way, scoffing. Was that any better than what Tristan had used? "Impedimentia!" He shouted as he cast the next spell.

The process of blocking Tristan's spell, caused the pain in his arm to tenfold. It did nothing to help, his anger seemed to grow. He itched to use a spell that he'd read about but went instead to the fire spell, that cause targets to burn forever. He stopped midway though the incantation and his arm dropped and he fell silent. His anger had been coming back full force, he wanted to hurt his friend badly, his anger was driving him to throw spells that were harsh and harmful. "Why won't you use your goddamn stunning spell now?!" he wanted it to end, but knew for it to end, Tristan would have to stun him out of it. He was tired, angry and sore, but if there was no spell to completely take him out, he'd continue to push and let the anger thrive.

Tristan had his hands clenched into fists, he was focused on the match but also knew he had to end it soon. The wound in Jerara's arm seemed to be bothering him, and a part of Tristan was telling him to stop. But he pushed that aside. Jerara had wanted this himself. Tristan got ready to block the spell the boy would cast at him next, but he stopped. Tristan waited in anticipation, then blinked in surprise at the boy's words. "So you can mock me again?!" He called back, his own anger apparent. "Fine!" He snarled. "STUPEFY!" He put more force into the spell than he ever had before, practically throwing it at the other boy.
