Professor Styx leads the two contestants to the stage, appointing them into the north or south part of the stage. He reveals the rules as well as the point system. He walks off the stage and orders the duel to begin, as he keeps a watchful eye.
OOCOut of Character:
All right, make sure that you use the spell list for guidance. No board rule breaking is acceptable. Have fun! I have a copy of the code that you should use with every post. Remember, when you are knocked out, unable to shoot anymore spells, you lost. And if you run out of points, you lose.
The duel begins now. If someone doesn't post after 24 hours, they are disqualified.

Phoebe recognized the girl on the opposite end of the stage from the previous year. It was the pretty Slytherin who had beaten her last year. That definitely wasn't going to happen again. She was determined to be better at her duels this year, really show her skills. "You're not going to beat me again." She said as she bowed. Then she pointed her wand at the girl and used the bat-bogey hex on her.

Stella had only decided to sign up for the dueling tournament at the last minute out of boredom. After her brother left Hogwarts she had suddenly had a dramatic decrease in interest in the magical world because she cared for her brother's well being more than his ability to fit in here, and thus she had lost interest in things like not trying out for the quidditch team again. She almost didn't sign up to duel either but she had some anger that she didn't want to have misplaced so this seemed like a healthy way to let it out.

She recognized her opponent as soon as she walked up to the platform. It was the same girl that had said something about Stella wanting to ruin her good looks. The memory almost made her laugh, and upon hearing the girl's comment it was clear she remembered her too. Stella simply grinned at her as if saying 'we'll see' and prepared herself for whatever she was about to throw her way. She stood at the ready, blocking an oncoming bogey hex and saw her shield prevent it from hitting her. She decided to use the same spell she'd used against the girl before which had prompted the funny comment from her. "Furnunculus!"

Phoebe was a little disappointed when the blond girl didn't say anything back and wondered if she hadn't remembered her from last year. The girl blocked her spell, but then her spell in return made Phoebe grin even as she blocked it. She must remember. "Still intimidated by my looks?" She called out, grinning. "Locomotor Mortis!"

This time when the girl made a comment about her looks, Stella chuckled. She had to hurry to cast her shield in time to prevent the spell from hitting her, but once the spell had dissipated she said, "Maybe you're intimidated by mine?" with a small smirk. Just to keep messing with the girl, Stella cast a Fur growing spell at her.

Phoebe was glad she had made the other girl laugh, though she would have preferred if the laughter had distracted her enough to be hit. That wasn't the case, though. "Nah," she said as she blocked the girl's new spell. "I know how to deal with your looks." With that, she shot her spell at the Slytherin, aiming a bit lower in an attempt to trip her up. "Stupefy!"

Stella laughed again and shrugged as she said, "If you say so," flashing her a smile. Instead she tried to focus on the duel at hand, but having lost interest in performing magic every chance she got, Stella's 'wizarding' instincts weren't as strong as before, so her first instincts to escape the stunning spell were to duck out of range, rather than shoot her shield up in time. Stella cursed under her breath and straightened up as she returned to the center facing her opponent and fired back, "Petrificus Totalus!" in an attempt to make up for her poor performance just then.

Phoebe knew she had to focus on the duel, rather than exchanging taunts with this girl. Maybe if she had been a little faster, she actually would have hit her. It seemed like a near miss as it was. Phoebe put up a shield charm to block the Slytherin's spell, then shot another stunning spell at her without another word. If she focused, she would perhaps be able to overwhelm her with fast wandwork and win this duel. She usually liked to be more creative, but she had a feeling this could work.

Stella felt as if the duel had suddenly shifted to a more serious tone as the girl didn't reply and tried to send another stunning spell her way, which she managed to block in time now that she remembered to use of her wand and not simply rely on her flight instincts. "Got nothing to say anymore?" Stella said playfully. She wasn't really taking the duel as seriously as her competitor seemed to be, but she figured any distraction might give her an advantage. "Silencio!" she cast at her target.

Phoebe was a playful individual, but she was competitive as well. She had lost to this girl once already, and wasn't ready to have that happen again. She shot the girl a grin after she blocked the girl's silencing spell. "I'll talk to you after I beat you, okay?" She called before pointing her wand at her opponent. "Expelliarmus!"
