Y31 Dueling Match #20

[Kennedy Pratt]

The second round of matches had just started, so Kennedy walked the next contestants out onto the platform. She explained the rules to them despite them already knowing them, just in case, and then walked off to let them begin. ​

Please use the spell list for guidance. No board rule breaking is acceptable. Have fun! I have a copy of the code that you should use with every post. Remember, when you are knocked out, unable to shoot anymore spells, you lost. And if you run out of points, you lose.
The duel begins now. If someone doesn't post after 24 hours, they are disqualified.

Arvel couldn't believe he'd actually won his duel against Gwen, but that didn't mean he felt any more confident about round two. Diana had also won against her partner, which meant she was probably pretty good - better than Arvel, perhaps. His palms were clammy as he stepped up onto the duelling platform, making his wand difficult to grip. When Professor Pratt finished going over the rules and the duel began, Arvel quickly made the first move. "Rictusempra!"

This time, Diana actually knew her opponent. She grinned at Arvel as he stood on the other side of the podium, and bowed to him only very slightly. He was quick with his first spell, and Diana only barely managed to block it. Stung, she quickly tried tot hink of something to say to distract him. "When you lose, are you going to write another bad song about it?" She called over before pointing her wand at him. "Stupefy!"

Arvel knew what Diana was trying to do - unfortunately, it was still working. He barely managed to block the stunning spell that would have eliminated him before they'd even properly begun. His face burned with shame and anger. "Expelliarmus!" he shot back, without answering her question. She wasn't going to distract him. Not like that.

Even at this distance, Diana could see Arvel had been affected by her words. She laughed at him mockingly, though she knew she had to focus on spells rather than words for now. She managed to block his disarming spell. Her mind blanked for a moment as she tried to think of another spell, though she finally sent one back after a pause that was slightly longer than it had to be. Flustered, she shouted: "Rictusempra!"

Arvel smirked as Diana missed a beat. Served her right for trying to put him off. He raised a shield charm to deflect her spell, adjusting his grip on his wand. If only his hand weren't so clammy. "Tarantallegra!"

The stupid smirk on Arvel's stupid face made Diana angry, and she longed to wipe it off. He wouldn't be looking smug like that when he lost. She impatiently blocked his spell, and was glad when her mind supplied another for her to send his way without having to think on it. "Petrificus Totalus!"

Arvel felt his concentration slipping, and quickly reined it back in, just in time to block Diana's spell. He was really running out of ideas, now, and knew he was going to have to start recycling spells they'd already used. Duelling as a second year wasn't all that much fun. "Stupefy!"

Diana was growing more confident as the duel went on. She was starting to feel like she was getting the hang of blocking spells, and as a second year there really wasn't much unexpected her opponent could throw at her. She blocked his stunning spell, and decided to simply copy his idea. "Stupefy!" She said, thrusting her wand forward harshly in an attempt to make it more forceful. She hoped it would somehow make the spell harder to block.

Arvel nearly dropped his wand as he raised it to deflect the stunning spell. He only knew a handful of spells, but his mind was racing and he couldn't think clearly or remember the incantation to the one he wanted. "Rictusempra!" he said, his voice cracking slightly.

Diana felt herself grin as she watched Arvel. While she was getting more used to dueling, it seemed to her like he was losing his grip a little bit. Now if only he would literally lose his grip and drop his wand, she would be happy. She blocked his spell, a little annoyed with him because it was one she had planned to use next. Not wanting to look like she was copying the entire time, she scrambled for something else. "Tarantallegra!"
