Professor Styx leads the two contestants to the stage, appointing them into the north or south part of the stage. He reveals the rules as well as the point system. He walks off the stage and orders the duel to begin, as he keeps a watchful eye.
OOCOut of Character:
All right, make sure that you use the spell list for guidance. No board rule breaking is acceptable. Have fun! I have a copy of the code that you should use with every post. Remember, when you are knocked out, unable to shoot anymore spells, you lost. And if you run out of points, you lose.
The duel begins now. If someone doesn't post after 24 hours, they are disqualified.

Taking his place on the southern side of the duelling platform, Solomon turned slowly on his heel, shifting to face the Hufflepuff girl on the opposing end. His fingers rolled the hemlock wood of his wand idly in his hand, waiting patiently for Professor Styx to explain the rules and regulations. He kept his eye on the spectators, keeping a watch for Merrill among the many faces in the audience. He wasn't too keen on making a fool of himself in the first match, as it was his first time participating rather than simply watching, but Sol was confident in his capabilities. As soon as they were given permission to begin, the Mordaunt boy bowed his head and waited for his opponent to make the first move.

Amber wasn't entirely sure now why she had signed up for the duelling competition. Last year she had been perfectly happy only to watch, but for some reason she had wanted to try it out this time. She had never dueled before in her life, and she really hoped she wouldn't lose immediately and look incredibly silly. The people watching them didn't make it easier, she was really starting tobe nervous. The boy that she was fighting today wasn't someone she knew, though she had seen him around enough to know his name. It surprised her that he let her go first, and it made her fumble for a moment because she had been expecting to use a defensive spell first. Instead, she pointed her wand in his direction. "Stupefy!"

Solomon was more than prepared for the girls spell, the shielding charms incantation already on his lips before she had even finished casting her stunning spell. The transparent wall rippled into life in front of him, defending him from the oncoming jet of red light. Both shield and spell winked out of existence, and the boy waved his wand quickly in return. <COLOR color="seagreen">"Petrificus Totalus."

The ease with which the boy blocked her spell and sent a new one back at her showed Amber that he was definitely very skilled at this. It made her nervous and she almost just wanted to give up, it would at least ensure she didn't get hurt. But no, she had to try. Amber put up a shield charm of her own, letting out a relieved breath when it stopped the boy's spell. Then she sent the first spell that came to mind back at him. "Expelliarmus!" It was a very basic spell, but it would be a quick way to end the duel if it hit him.

Solomon frowned as the girl blocked his petrificatiom spell, knowing it would be too easy for the match to end so soon, yet still hoping it would be the case. He didn't want to be worn out for his next duel. <COLOR color="seagreen">"Protego." He incanted for a second time, defending himself against the disarming charm. For such a basic spell, it was one capable of immediately ending the duel between them. As his shield dropped, he retaliated quickly. "Stupefy."

Amber was starting to feel like she knew what she was doing. With every spell she managed, her confidence grew. "Protego!" She said again, stopping his stunning spell by shielding herself. She stepped aside quickly and pointed her wand at him. "Petrificus Totalus!" She shouted, watching him carefully.

Solomons expression turned slowly into one of annoyance. Why didn't she just give up already? It'd be a whole lot easier for the both of them if she did. He blocked her spell, deflecting it from himself with much more force than before, and quickly whipped his wand back through the air. <COLOR color="seagreen">"Stupefy!" He casted, eyes narrowed as the jet of red light raced toward his opponent. Even if she managed to block it, he hoped he had put enough strength behind the spell to knock her off balance.

Just as Amber had begun to find her footing, this guy started to be more aggressive. She gasped and barely managed to shield it in time, taking a step back. The force of the spell had nearly knocked her off balance and she had to take a moment longer to recover than she would have liked. "Ex.." She wavered. "Expelliarmus." The spell wasn't nearly as strong as his, and even Amber could see he would probably block it easily.

The Slytherin boy felt renewed confidence as the girl appeared to falter, believing it was only a short amount of time before she'd slip up, or forfeit. Solomon all but backhanded her disarming spell away with his own shield, firing back with a jelly-fingers curse. If she was so determined to try disarm him, he'd do the same to her, and then some. She couldn't continue if she couldn't keep hold of her wand.

For some reason, Amber thought about her friends that were watching the duel. She wanted to do well for them, she needed to do better and not give up. She blocked the curse the boy sent at her with a well placed shield charm. Though it wasn't as quickly as the boy reacted, it was enough to block his spell. She knew better than to try a spell she wasn't familiar with right now, so she fell back on the thing she knew how to do. "Stupefy." She said, sending the stunning spell his way.

The other girls repertoire of spells were, apparently, quite limited. The match was starting to grow boring, no doubt for the spectators too, watching the sane spells fired back and forth. Solomon blocked her latest attempt to stun, but took a moment before retaliating. <COLOR color="seagreen">"Do you know any other spells?" He questioned, wondering if she perhaps just had not payed enough attention in classes. As soon as the question left his lips, he followed it up by softly casting a jelly-brain jinx to inhibit her ability to think. Just maybe she'd be distracted enough by his question to react too late.

Amber frowned at the boy when he asked her if she knew any othe spells. It wasn't as if his spells were all that diverse, he had used the stunning spells just as many times as she had. She opened her mouth to tell him so, when she was hit by a spell she hadn't even noticed him casting. She stepped back from the impact and then her whole mind went... fuzzy. Why was she here again? People were watching, was she on a stage? She remembered she had wanted to show the boy she could do spells, but why? She could do spells though! Many spells. She smiled at the boy and held up her wand. "Lumos!" "See?" She smiled proudly when her wand lit up, though small part of her mind was telling her to be careful. Why? She was just showing this boy she could do spells.

The spell hitting his opponent didn't entirely have the effect Solomon desired. For a description of inhibited mental processes, he expected her to be more or less incapable of casting any magic, as simple as the illumination spell was. She acted confunded more than anything. Still, it wasn't something she was likely to recover from for the duration of the match. Clicking his tongue in annoyance, the boy continued, flicking his wand almost experimentally as he casted his next spell. <COLOR color="seagreen">"Serpensortia." He incanted, conjuring a vivid green snake from the tip of his wand. It flew halfway across the platform before landing, at once baring its fangs and hissing aggressively whilst it slithered further on, toward the jelly-brained Hufflepuff. "Oh, no. A snake. Run."

Ambers mind was still very foggy and she stared at the glowing tip of her wand until it went out. She giggled and waved at the boy. Then she noticed a snake. How had it gotten so close? "Oh!" She said. "Careful, grumpy boy, there's a snake!" She took a step back, frowning. Her mind tried to think of what to do. She hadn't been listening to the boy's words, and now she wondered if he had said anything useful. Her eyes went to the wand in her hand. What were snakes afraid of? Bigger snakes? "No that's silly." She said out loud. She considered trying to pet it for a moment, maybe they could be friends! But its teeth looked so sharp... Then she gasped. She knew what to do! The spell came to her after another moment, though there were no thoughts of possible consequences entering her head under this spell. "Incendio?" She half shouted, half asked, pointing the wand in the direction of the snake and the boy behind it. Fire shot from her wand in a messy arch, as she hadn't pointed too carefully. It seemed to scare the snake, maybe it would scare the boy away too, though she wasn't sure if she wanted that. "Look, fire!" She said after a beat, sounding surprised.

Solomon was astounded by the Hufflepuffs ability to continue, almost impressed by her casting a third year spell with an addled brain and sounding most like she was asking the spell to work. Then again, he'd never experienced the effects of the jelly-brain jinx on himself, so his knowledge of the spell came only from the books he'd read. Unfortunately her flames managed to scare his conjured snake (which for some reason, had not bitten her multiple times while she stood there talking to herself, though perhaps it was a particularly slow snake), leaving that plan in shambles. You're turning out to be a bigger pain than I thought, Wilson. The Slytherin thought to himself with a frown, his eyebrows furrowed in irritation. He made no move to react to her flames, as they were directed at another target much closer to the ground at her feet and not the opposite side of the platform where he was standing. Instead, he pointed his wand at the girl, firing off a spell he hoped would just end this ridiculous match once and for all. <COLOR color="seagreen">"Stupefy."

Amber didn't have time to react with the spell still on her, and she was hit square in the chest by the stunning spell. She collapsed, unconscious, ending the duel.
