How many people watched the opening ceremonies last night? Who are you looking out for in the games and what are your expectations for your country overall?
For myself, Canada winning gold on home turf for the first time in our history would be amazingly awesome. I think it will definitely happen this time. One gold should be no problem, especially considering the sheer number of athletes we have competing. Coming out on top of the medal count? There lies the challenge.
I think the opening ceremonies were amazing. It was unfortunate about the hydraulics problem at the end, though (when they were lighting the cauldron inside of the stadium). They made the best of that technical failure. Overall, I was quite impressed with the opening ceremonies - given how low the budget for opening and closing ceremonies was (especially as compared to the budget for the Beijing games).
I also enjoyed how much French I understood during there ceremony. And here I thought I'd wasted ten years of my life.
My favourite part of the opening ceremony was likely the poem that was recited about Canada. It was a shortened version of We Are More.
Finally, I was quite impressed with the Georgian athletes and the fact that they marched in to the stadium in mourning, and that bit gave me chills as the stadium rose for them.
We had like ten times when the station cut for a "moment of silence" for Nodar Kumaritashvili, but it was, and is, a big deal - so I guess that was fair.
