Rory didn't know why he was still dating Anabelle, she had been an interesting friend, and she was pretty, but he didn't like her as anything more than a friend. They'd been together, kind of, in whatever definition of the word it could be almost a year. Most of the time he even forgot that he was going out with her. It wasn't that she was a bad girlfriend, he just wasn't interested. He was more interested in Evelyn than he was in her, and he knew she was dating someone else. But upon being reminded that he had a girlfriend to ask to this dance he had asked Anabelle to attend with him. So he was waiting for her at the drinks table. Dressed as he always was in a suit, there was no place for kilts here. He was beginning to feel like he was growing out of this new suit but at the very least it would suffice for the night. He took a cup of butterbeer and drank it slowly. Glancing about the room to the others within it. Maybe he could try to find Therese, she had to be about somewhere. He lowered the cup and sighed, where on earth was Anabelle. He didn't particularly want to spend the night with her anyway, but he had to, he had to at least try to be a decent boyfriend to her.

It was the happiest that the young Williams' girl had been in awhile. She felt so comfortable around Rory, and though she still got butterflies when she was around him, Anabelle felt that she didn't have to try to be perfect. There was no pressure. Anabelle did wish the two of them would spend more time together, but she understood he was busy and had other friends - she didn't want to push him away by requesting more time with him so she was overjoyed when he asked her to the dance; Ana wasn't sure if he was even planning on going at first. So Ana quickly found a dress ; it wasn't as exciting or lavish as the first time the two went together, but it was the best she could do in the short notice she had. As Ana exited her dorm, she was surprised at first that Rory didn't wait for her in the Common Room, but shrugged, perhaps he had walked up with some friends. Ana walked, a smile still on her face, towards the Great Hall, her eyes glancing around the room before spotting Rory by the drinks table. Ana approached him and slid her hand into his free hand when she got there. "Hey." She said softly with a smile.

Seeing her was almost a sudden reminder of maybe why he was still going out with her. She was beautiful, he could absolutely see it. She was usually just pretty, but Rory did think she was beautiful, especially when she tried. "Hey," he said, his tone a lot softer than he had anticipated he would use with her. Rory liked Anabelle, not as much as he thought he would at this point in dating, but she was a solid option, a girl from a respectable family, well liked by her peers, his parents would certainly like her. Her blood was a little out of the question, but he knew at the very least she ticked every other box. She was a good option for now. When he left school he was sure there would be some pureblooded scottish girl waiting for him, picked out by his parents, so what did it really matter for now. "Ye look beautiful Anabelle," Rory complimented her, "Ye wan' tae dance or some sh1te," he offered, almost off handed pointing to the dance floor with his drink filled hand. He didn't particularly like dancing but that was what people did at these things, they danced. It would be one way of spending the night, and though he was somewhat reminded of why he was dating her, he still knew that the moment this night was over, he'd probably feel differently again, likely forget they were even dating.

Ana's smile grew bigger when Rory complimented her, and she laughed lightly at the way he asked her to dance. Though Anabelle had never and would never swear, she didn't mind when Rory did. It was part of who he was, and she would prefer to not be with a snob anyway. She liked him for all his quirks; she was lucky to be with someone like him. Anabelle nodded her head, still holding onto Rory's hand. "I'd love to." She replied, before leading them onto the dance floor. Ana placed her hands around Rory's neck as they reached an empty spot. "You look really nice." She didn't know why she was feeling so nervous and tongue tied. Ana knew she was generally a shy person, but she sometimes felt as if she was reaching and therefore was afraid to say the wrong thing.

Rory wasn't surprised that she wanted to dance with him, nor that she wanted to take his hand, and though he didn't mind the feeling, he fought the slight urge to shake her off. It would be fine. He allowed her to lead them out to a space on the dance floor and he put his hands lightly upon her waist. Rory couldn't help that his gaze wondered away from her, just nodded at the compliment and looking at the people around them. he was a little happier to be at this with her, but he couldn't help but feel dulled by it. Rory nodded, "Aye, it's a new suit," he told her leaning in so that she could hear him better, "Ma da decided that ah needed a new one, it's got tartan on the inside of the cuff, says ah might as well have a little of ma traditional dress if ah continue tae refuse tae wear a kilt tae this thing," Rory did spend a lot of his time talking at Anabelle, but she was one of a small number that actually listened to him, mostly understood and more important didn't really add her unnecessary opinion to it. That was part of the reason he liked her, she just kind of did whatever he needed her to do. There was no one stopping him from getting work from Anabelle, or getting her to do things for him like there was with Flavio. But, maybe that was a poor reason to be dating her?
