Transfiguration 1:6

Lesson Six: Learning Gemelitiar (book into a jewellery box)

"Good morning everyone, today's lesson will be kept relatively short." Leif said cheerfully as his students took their seat. "To begin, I would like you all to please pull out your textbook and place it on your desk. For a spell. We aren't doing more theory, you can all relax." He waited for everyone to pull out their books, nodding once it looked like every desk had one. "Good. Today, we are going to turn these books into jewelry boxes. Or trinket boxes, whatever you like to think of it as."

Leif paused as several students oohed at the thought. He walked over to his desk and pulled out a book of his own to be used in the demonstration. "We will, of course, be using the three tap method as usual. The incantation is 'Gemelitiar.' Like this." Professor Odegard tapped his book three times and incanted the spell, "Gemelitiar" and the book immediately changed into a beautiful jewelry box made of mahogany wood, inscribed with sentences from the books pages in reference to its previous form. Garnets and opals accented the boxes lid.

"Easy. Try to visualise a box that suits you and what you like, draw on familiar things that are easy to visualise, or memories of jewelry boxes you've seen before. I would like all of you to begin, I will be walking around as always. After you are done, use the rest of your time to study. Exams are right around the corner after all."

Note: "Finite" is a counter-spell, not Untransfiguration, and shouldn't be used to reverse any transfigurations.

Roleplay attempting to turn your book into a jewellery box for full marks.

It was hard to believe she would be heading back to see her mother in a few short weeks. Rory would be graduating, she will have completed all of her exams, and then she will have to see off most of the people she'd been getting to know over the year, and just hope nothing major happened over the break to make them not want to be her friends when second year rolled around. It was... strange to think any of this was happening, and it left her feeling quite pensive as she walked into her final transfiguration class of the year - she hoped she'd learned enough to pass her exams, that's all she could bring herself to worry about for the moment. The professor let them know that this wasn't just a review, but they would be learning one final spell, and she raised an eyebrow curiously. She wouldn't have time to really get this one into her repertoire if that was the case, but she supposed she could deal with it. Her fingers hovered over her textbook as she tried to grab hold of the racing thoughts in her head, ideas for what he box could look like. She closed her eyes for a moment, trying to picture her mother's jewellery box back home - she would be able to see it in person in a few short weeks. It was a delicate little thing, filled with some of Tori's most favourite of her mum's possessions. They didn't have much, but they had what they needed and that had always been enough.

Tori took a breath, tapped her book three times with her finger to practice, before pulling her wand out of her robes and placing it on top of the book. "Gemelitiar", she wasn't saying the spell to use it yet, only to practice how the words sound. She had never been a note taker and so she'd found this had always been the best way for her to learn something. She picked up the wand again, closed her eyes and tapped the box three times before whispering, "Gemelitiar". She opened one eye, peeked at the book and frowned, nothing seemed to have happened. Determined, she steadied her focus and tried again, imagining the fine details in her mind, something to match the outlandish decor of her bedroom, and still be similar to the one her mum had. Polished wood, the soft interior of it, the small, hidden compartments, the way the outside was smoothed over with years of use. This time, with a softer shimmer, her book began to change, its cover taking on a warm wooden tone, intricate carvings forming along the edges. When it was done, her book had turned into a lovely jewellery box, simple yet familiar, with a sweet touch of her own design and style.

It felt odd to Winnie that she was already at the end of the first year of her schooling, that everything had gone mostly to plan. She knew that this last stretch would be the deciding factor, but she was hopeful that her parents would be happy. She felt sure she’d manage to pass everything well. She had been working hard on it. The slytherin was getting herself together and then headed out of the dorm room and to her first class of this final week of her first year.

Winnie walked into the transfiguration classroom and took her usual spot in the room. She looked to the professor and though she was eager to get to the spell, she was pretty unimpressed about the fact that they would be using their textbooks for the spell. She listened along and took a couple of notes from what the professor was telling them, and then when they were supposed to, she took her wand and then her textbook. She pointed her wand at it and tapped three times before saying ”Gemelitiar,”. She had to do the spell a couple of times before it worked and then when it did, she made sure the professor changed it back before she left the room.

Kanako didn't really feel like doing more transfiguration. She'd kind of banked on doing study, but it turned out they'd be doing a spell again. Books into jewelry boxes was actually a useful spell too, in Kanako's opinion. What was the point of books? Kanako wasn't a fan, jewelry boxes were far superior. She got a book and started to try it out. "Gemelitar," she said, thinking of a nice box she'd seen in a shop one time that her dad had refused to buy her. Her desire for said box seemed to do the trick - the book transformed easily into it. Kanako smiled - a genuine one - and wondered if she was allowed to take it back with her. It was perfect. She spent the rest of the lesson half-reading, half-thinking about what she'd do when she was finally back home. She kind of missed her dad, in spite of everything.

William had been hoping for a quiet review lesson for his final Transfiguration lesson of the semester, as they had for most of their other classes. Professor Odegard however had other ideas, he instructed the students to take out their textbooks and explained that they would be turning them into jewellery box, which sounded ambitious. William listened to Professor Odegard explain the process and the incantation and then he took out his wand so he could start practicing. He pointed his wand down at his textbook and tapped it three times before muttering the incantation, “Gemelitiar,” He looked down at his book and watched as it turned into a rough crafted wooden box. It looked okay, but it certainly wasn’t anything special. After he got Professor Odegard to reverse it he spent the rest of the lesson studying until it was over then made his way out of the classroom.

Sybil couldn’t believe her first year of Hogwarts was almost over. She wasn’t sure if she had a lot to show for it but she was optimistic that the next year would be even better. She took her seat and was glad when the professor said the lesson would be short. She had a lot of studying to do after all. She did as she was told and put her book on her desk. She listened and watched the demonstration and was eager to try for herself. When it was their turn she pulled out her wand and started to visualize a plain wooden box with a small braid carving around some of the edges. It was the same one she had back home that used to be her mother’s. She didn’t have a lot of her mother’s things so it was pretty special and she could imagine it easily. When she tapped her wand and said the incantation the book slowly transformed and condensed into a small familiar box. She was pleased with her work but needed her book to study so she waved over the professor when she was done.

Esme was a little annoyed that their final Transfiguration less was a practical lesson. Yes, she had enjoyed turning things into other things but the exams were upon them and she wasn’t in the mood to learn new things, she just wanted to study. Instead of studying, they were turning their textbooks into jewellery boxes which seemed…counter productive. She listened as Professor Odegard went through the steps to perform the spell and Esme took out her book and wand so she could get started. She tried to imagine a jewellery box she had seen before, something sleep, black, not her style at all but the kind of thing that wouldn’t be out of place in a Styx manor. She held that image in her head and placed her wand over her book, using the three tap method and saying the incantation quietly. “Gemelitiar,” It took a couple of attempts for anything to actually happen but once it did her book transformed in a hideous, decorative, obsidian black jewellery box. She showed it to Professor Odegard and had him turn it back into a textbook so she could leave the classroom.
