Third Years; Lesson Two

Professor Tobias Blade sighed quietly as he arranged his classroom for the day’s lesson, glancing up at the clock and realizing the year was already halfway gone. He hadn’t expected every student to love his classes—some clearly resented being here—but he tried to push those thoughts aside. Today’s robes were a dull slate gray, his hair unkempt, but he straightened as the students entered. "Morning, everyone. Take a seat," he said, voice rough but steady. His gaze softened briefly as he caught the flicker of tired faces before him.​

"Today, we’ll learn two new charms—not flashy, but necessary. Flagrate, the wand-writing spell, and Aparecium, the revealing charm that shows invisible ink. Useful in plenty of situations, though don’t think about using it in exams. Trust me, I’ve seen enough students try and fail," he muttered with a grim smile, thinking briefly of his own past mistakes.​

Blade turned his back and silently wrote the two spell names on the board with a flick of his wand. "You’ll write a message for a classmate—something simple, an apology, a prank, whatever you like. It’s anonymous, so don’t put your name." He flicked his wand again, passing out quills, ink, and strips of parchment. "Once you finish writing, practice revealing your message with the Aparecium charm. Remember, concentration is key—three taps and say ‘AH-par-EH-see-um’." Blade watched carefully as the students practiced, stepping between them to offer pointers when needed.​

"Now, for Flagrate, pronunciation matters. Say it with me: ‘fla-GRA-tay.’ Again," he instructed, pausing to ensure they followed. "This spell requires focused magic at your wand’s tip—imagine it as a pen or quill in your hand. With practice, you’ll be able to switch or fade what you write with a flick." He gave a tired but genuine smile. "Alright, get to it. I’ll be around if you need help."​

OOC Notes: Practice writing messages using Flagrate and revealing them with Aparecium. Concentrate on pronunciation and wand control. Participation and study posts will earn house points.​

 

[Lumos Walden-Cade]

Lumos, once again sitting with @Jonah Edogawa had already began doodling at the corners of his notes absently before Professor Blade had even finished giving his instructions. He just didn't think the class had the same warmth as when it had been Professor Grayveson's. He sighed as the man talked about asking them to write anonymous notes and he immediately know he would be sending one to Jonah - so it definitely wasn't going to be very anonymous. He took a lot of pleasure in writing the message down for his boyfriend and then sliding it across the table and watching him read it. I LOVE YOU in block letters obviously. When it came to the flagrante spell, he was a little less precise, but he practiced it anyway. Anything to get the class to be over with faster. He liked charms generally, but he couldn't get over how much he missed his old professor.​

 

[Elijah Edogawa]

Eli settled into his seat again for the next lesson with Charms, Sayuri beside him. He short her a sideways look as the professor droned on, he really seemed to like the sound of his own voice - though he was just thankful they were not being forced to introduce themselves to each other again like they had to do in first year. He was pretty sure that was part of where his dislike for Blade's predecessor had begun. He muttered to Sayuri under his breath something about how the professor looked like he hadn't slept since the Goblin rebellions that he was probably a part of. He wasn't that Eli thought he looked old, just really, really tired. Still, Eli did pay attention to the spells they wee being taught and practiced them as they were asked to, exchanging notes with other people in class, unsigned of course. He sent one, unsigned to @Eoghan Blyth that just said I WAS AN IDIOT, but he didn't really expect to get anything back honestly. It wasn't hard, but the lesson was a pretty good one, he needed to know how much of the professor's tiredness was real and how much of it was an act - if he was going to survive the class anyway.​

 

[Primrose Kaster]

Prim didn't mind Charms, and she was happy to see how things would go with the new professor too. She tried out each of the incantations before she even attempted to start using them, whispering them quietly just to see how it would go. She liked to know how things were pronounced first and asked the professor a couple of times to make sure she had it down. She knew weird and strange things could happen if the spells were cast incorrectly and especially with a flame sort of one she didn't want to take any risks that she might burn something. The lesson ended soon after and she was quick to put all of her stuff together so she could leave.​

 

[Daiki Saito]

Daiki walked into the charms classroom and took his spot in the room. he took out his notes and books and placed them down in front of him as the professor got started. he noted down the two spells they were covering. He could figure what they were about but took down the professor's information as the man said it.he wrote a little note for Kairi with the invisible ink and then took down what the incantation and wand movement was. The professor then moved on to the other spell, and then they were just to allowed to try it. He took his invisible writing note and cast, "Aparecium," he took a few tries but it appeared. he let it fade away as he then practiced the other spell. He had more difficulty with this, but by the end of the lesson had managed it. He then packed up his things and headed out of the room.

 

[Lilith Ilves]

Lili wasnät too sure yet what to make of the new professor, he was alright at the very least. Taking a seat she directed her eyes at the man as he began explaining the days lesson. Using invisible ink for exams? Now who would do that, not Lili that was for sure, though she had an inkling that once Leo started at the school there might be one or two attempts at that for the boy... Merlin help them all. Lilith practiced writing the spells for a bit. Sending a note without signing it to no one in particular, figuring that "Have a good day!" Would be a nice enough of a note for anyone to receive. Then she practiced to reveal texts with "Aparecium." It took her a good few tries to get it to work, but eventually it did. Moving on to the second spell she tried to put as much focus on it as she could. Eventually waching as the wand began to write. After the lesson was over Lili packed up giving the professor a smile on her way out.

[Sayuri Edogawa]

Sayuri rested her chin on her hand, glaring daggers at @Lumos Walden-Cade for grabbing Jonah. That cockroach was really getting some nerve after daring to step into her house during the holidays. She considered writing her note for the cockroach but this class was just as stupid as last year. So she wrote a big fat THIS IS STUPID. Anonymous. She would just claim she was writing it to her brother. She ended up practicing the two spells just until she got them right once and then left right after.​
