The Sorting Ceremony

This was a big moment and Kayla was nervous. She kept getting herself in a panic, imagining getting sorted into a house she didn't want. She was going over and over the same old lines of 'what ifs' and worst case scenarios that she wanted the Sorting over and done with just to prevent her feeling anxious.

"Kayla Wilde!"

Kayla swallowed hard, feeling a sense of relief at her name being called. It was all happening, she stepped forward to try on the Sorting Hat.

The first of her family to attend Hogwarts New Zealand meant that they had told her nothing which meant everything was ripe to be explored, she was excited, walking through the doors with the group she pushed through to be at the front of the line, she had to see everything before the others, while they were busy gazing at the ceiling which she had seen as the doors opened she was already looking at the students, the food, the floors, the professors, she was looking at the headmistress and then noticed a professor out of the corner of her eye, she double took but then went back to looking at everything around them. 'Cool' she said under her breath as she approached the sorting hat, old tacky hat, with dangling bits, awesome she wanted to wear it.
Student after student approached the hat and she awaited her turn, it wasn't fair she wanted to go up but her name meant she would have been further down the list, but Finally.

Petty-Fitzmaurice, Wilhelmina

Skipping up the stairs she sat down and waited for the hat to be placed upon her head, she looked up and realised it would go on her face if she didn't look forward, looking at the students she waited.[/b][/b]

Augustus walked down the great hall along with his twin brother Lycus and viewed all the disgusting people smiling, clapping, talking. It annoys him so much just to see them smile, he wanted to rip it off their faces. Soon each students are called to the front of the hall and they were all sorted.

"Jin Howard, Augustus"

His name was called. He rushed to the front and sat on the stool quietly, eyeing on his brother proudly.

'Fizzelle, Sara-Liz'

Sara-Liz strolled towards the sorting hat as her name was called. She could feel the entire hall's eyes piercing her neck with their stares. It was definitely nerve racking. She could feel her hands getting clammy but that was more because she was worried about the sorting than their stares. She was used to attention - even though that may sound boastful - because of how loud her family was when she won a race.

She sat straight down onto the stool and felt the frayed hat take place on her boxer braids. She wasn't too nervous anymore. Her Mama had told her all about the sorting hat and how it would place her where she belonged and she was determined to believe it.

She just wasn't sure where she could belong though, she was courteous - a hufflepuff trait. analytical - ravenclaw. A good debater - Slytherin. And finally Gryffindor, well, she was a bit fidgety like them but was that such a good thing? She looked over at the Gryffindors, they were too rude for her to fit in there

'Not Gryffindor. I won't belong,' she told the sentient hat as she pondered upon where she could spend the next 7 years of her life.

"You're right. You wouldn't belong in Gryffindor. The house for you is Hufflepuff!"

Britta had never felt so small as she did while she waited for her name to be called for sorting. Standing around with a bunch of her new peers the girl fiddled with her hands, unsure of what she could say or do to make this experience less stressful because they had to be silent while they waited for the strangest thing to decide their fate. A hat. The girl knew she should feel honoured or excited that she was going to be attending a prestigious academy such as this but mostly she was uncertain of how she would be judged and what this hat would decide for her. She hoped above all else that she was placed somewhere with nice people as she had heard rumours that some houses were meaner then others.

"Park, Britta." With a nervous tug of her sleeves the young witch walked up the stairs to the stool and sat down. It wasn't long before the sorting hat was placed on her head and all she could think of was how much she wanted to be anywhere else without all of these eyes on her because there was no way she could last at this for much longer.

As he heard his name getting called out, Alex took a few seconds. He took a deep breath, and took the first step towards the sorting hat. He kept a smile on while walking, observing the reactions of the others, focusing very hardly on not tripping or anything. Eventually, he did trip, but he laughed it off, continuing walking towards the hat with great confidence. As he sat down, he remained silent, awaiting eagerly for the hats decision. After all, he was the center of attention for the time being, and that never hurt. This is his 2 minutes of fame.

As Everly was waiting for her name to be called, all she could think about is that this is the start of the rest of her life. Although she was really nervous, she wanted to be done with it as quickly as possible because she hated feeling like this. When she heard her name, everything she was feeling suddenly stopped. "This is it", she said. She walked over to the Sorting Hat quickly and with her head held high.

Edoardo's heart was beating the entire time. The boy stood among the first year students awaiting their sorting. Of course his name had yet to be called, as the woman called off name after name of first year students, Edoardo became more and more antsy. Anything the young boy could get his hands on he began fumbling with. The edge of his black robes, his nails even seemed to have gotten shorter from having bitten on them, the tie he was wearing.

''Caito, Edoardo!''

When the woman finally called her name, Edoardo took a deep breath and squeezed through the first years who had yet to be sorted. Stepping up to the three legged stool, Edoardo turned and sat on it slowly, peering out at the four tables that held the current Hogwarts students. Holding his breath. How he was going to learn magic with the so called ''wand'' he bought at the Obsidian Harbour with his parents was yet to be demonstrated, but whatever the first years were to do with the stick, Edoardo was getting excited more and more now that he was being sorted. He waited for the hat to be lowered onto his head, thinking to himself the whole time that he wanted to be in Gryffindor because of a boy he met at the train to Hogwarts. The boy knew a lot about the four houses, and from what he told Edoardo about the houses, he thought that Edoardo would fit best in Gryffindor.

Mark walks on the stage as if he was stuck by a lightning of confidence, he was almost sure where his going to be placed. Mark begun to doubt his decision and think about the possibilities of where could he be placed and started to think more and more as time flew by. He suddenly got an urge to say something but he stopped himself and decided to just let it happen.

she was really excited about finally getting to be here, but as time passed by she was getting more and more nervous. She couldn't stand still and couldn't stop biting her nails. 'Will I trip? What if I fall? What if I break into tears for some reason??'. When they called out her name she took a deep breath, squeezed her fists and walked there as fast as she could. As soon as she sat there all her nervousness and fear just disappeared.

Hayley stood in the Great Hall with the other first years, nervous more because everyone around her was than of her own accord. She looked around, fascinated and still a little disbelieving. How had they made the ceiling do that? Magic? Really? The time since Hayley had received her letter had passed like a dream. It was all so strange, so fantastical! Even now, Hayley found herself a little suspicious of the whole idea. A few weeks ago, she had been considering which intermediate school to go to. Now she was off to a sort of high school, for wizards! Hayley Elridge, witch. She rather liked the sound of that.

"Elridge, Hayley."

That was it, that was her name. It was time! Hayley couldn't tell any more if the feeling in her stomach was nervousness or a wild excitement that she'd been struggling to keep in check since she and her mother had gone to Obsidian Harbour for her school supplies and wandered down the street in astonishment. Hayley walked up to the Sorting Hat's stool, head held high with a confidence she didn't feel, but she was certainly going to pretend to.

While Lily had heard about this school before, she imagined it completely differently to how she now saw it, as she now stood just beyond the Great Hall and looked in. The ceremony was well on the way, and Lily appeared to be one of the last few students to be making their way in for sorting. She smiled as her eyes caught those of her classmates-to-be, and she followed them through the centre of the hall towards the Professors table.
As they waited, Lily watched them become sorted into their house, and off they went into their new families. Lily told herself she would make friends with everyone, even if points were against a house, as she didn't want to stop herself from experiencing anything because of something so trivial. It was the same with blood type. Lily was a mixed blood, with just one ancestor in the family before her, and Lily once more knew no matter who they were or what they had, she would always treat them the same.
"Lily O'Connell" Her name was called. Lily made her way to the stool with the sorting hat, and smiled once again at the Professor holding it, before taking a seat and looking across the wave of students in front of her. Suddenly very overwhelmed by the number of people staring at her, she began to figet in her seat, and her gaze dropped into her hands. She closed her eyes slowly. She didn't know where she was meant to be, only that wherever she ended up, she would try her hardest.

Jamie had been waiting for this for a long while, he had been so excited for it happening and finally here it was. He ran a hand through his hair, and adjust the glasses on his noise as he excitedly made his way through the crowd of students to stand front and centre. He was so excited about it, he thought this was going to be the most incredible seven years ever. His primary school had been incredible fun but this was going to be even more. The boy was just excited to get started on his school career. He wanted to be sorted, though he desired to be sorted into the same house as his father that wouldn't be the end of the world if he wasn't. The boy just wanted to get started, there was already so much that he wanted to do, so much that he wanted to see in this incredible new place, and this would just be the best place to do it. Unlike his father who had had to travel so far to get to school, he was able to attend in his own country, and it seemed to be just like it. It was just exciting, so exciting, he had already seen the suits of armour and had planned his halloween costume based on that. Jamie removed his glasses and placed them into his pocket as the hat began to sing. He couldn't wait to get started on this. Already he had planned to go see all the different parts of the school, to attempt to find the room of requirements, to make his mark on the school, to learn to be as incredible as his parents both were. He want like them to be as great as they were.

The boy was listening to the song that hat was singing but thankfully that came to an end. Jamie was now even more excited, he was practically jumping up and down with excitement. He couldn't wait to meet his dorm mates and have countless adventures with them, it would be the Jamie crew, they could have a great time and Jamie would lead them on the best adventures. He knew he could, he always created the best adventures for his sisters, so why not this lot too. Finally the names started being called and the closer it got to his he felt his excitement double with every time. And finally his name was called, loud and clear for all to hear, the boy stepped out proudly stepping up to the hat with all the excitement he had shining through, he practically skipped up the steps as much as his eleven year old stature would allow him too. He sat down on the stool and the hat was placed upon his head. Jamie was so ready for this! This was going to be the best seven year adventure ever.
