The Sorting Ceremony

Karina Sargas looked up at the ceiling of the Great Hall with an interested gleam in her bright blue eyes. She had heard of the enchanted ceiling of the Great Hall from the books she had read, and in person, it truly did not disappoint. Stars gleamed brightly from above, where no light pollution -like in London, the city of her birth- detracted from the swath of the Milky Way spread out across the sky like a blanket of stars. She finally tore her gaze away from the nighttime sky to take a look around the Hall itself, lined with long tables where a great many students were already seated, looking expectantly in front of the Hall, where the Sorting was about to take place.

It seemed to take forever for the names to go down the alphabet, slowly ticking towards the 'S' names, as if time itself were slowing down around her. Karina bounced one foot quietly but impatiently as she awaited her turn with bated breath. Finally, her name was called.

"Sargas, Karina!"

She took in a deep breath and held it unknowingly as she made her way to the stool. She put the hat on her head, still barely daring to breathe. This was it! The moment she had been waiting for since she first got her letter! Any minute, the Sorting Hat would call out her House, and she would be truly, officially, a student of Hogwarts, New Zealand!

Hogwarts. Asaiah had been waiting for this day for ages. The train ride had been a kind of exciting torture, testing his patience whilst still being a new adventure in itself. The taste of the candy from the trolley still lingered in his mouth. He had no idea what to expect as he entered through the gigantic doors along side a flock of other students, his robes melding to the cluster of other first years as they moved as a nervous unit. Asaiah scanned the crowd for a familiar face from the train.

Everything was new, and Asaiah's eyes desperately attempted to take it all in. A wide grin of pure excitement spanned across his face. The eleven year old boy looked around and waited eagerly for his name to be called. He wouldn't be the first one to be sorted - the names were announced in alphabetical order - At least that was what his parents and older brother said. Asaiah became fascinated by the image of the sky on the ceiling, and the floating candles. It was unreal. It was no dream, either. He would never wake from this fantasy.

All around him was a sea of black robes made up of students old and new, the air filled with anticipation. The Sorting Hat burst into song, and a slightly surprised Asaiah was glad that it revealed a little bit about what he was getting himself into. Gryffindor seemed like a possibility, but how was he to know which house he was best suited for? Slytherin, Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, or Hufflepuff, it was all very confunsing to him. Which would the hat chose? As the anticipation in him began to rise, the Professor called his name, ''Murphy, Asaiah!'' when he heard his own name, Asaiah walked straight to the stool in front of him. He could feel every eye on him as soon as he sat upon the stool, he closed his eyes for a few seconds and took a deep breath. The Sorting Hat had been placed on his head, Alright mister Hat, sir. He thought, If you can really look in my mind, can you tell me what I'm thinking about? Asaiah asked in his mind, hoping that the Sorting Hat would answer him correctly. Asaiah looked out at the colors on older students' uniforms. Red, green, blue and yellow. Where did he belong?

"You're thinking the same thing that everyone else is thinking. I hear the same thing every year. Where will the sorting hat place me? I'm too good for this house, but I don't know if I'll fit into this one. I'll save you the trouble...Slytherin."

Daniel Wraithe glared around the large hall with a sullen expression on his face. He did NOT want to be here! He hated that his parents had forced him to be here, away from all of his friends and his family, halfway across the country. It did not seem fair to the eleven-year-old, despite all that his parents said about the school being a 'great opportunity' and a 'once in a lifetime chance'. He just cared that he was missing out playing WoW with Tucker! Plus all the movie nights in Sam's basement. Not to mention the chance to finally win Paulina's affections... even if Sam did think that Paulina was a shallow witch.

Daniel was so lost in his own misery that he barely heard what the headmaster was saying. Something about Sorting? ...That was right, not only was he in a stupid boarding school a thousand miles away from his town; he had to join a stupid 'house' that would do... what, exactly, for him? He hadn't exactly been listening. Daniel dismissed it as unimportant. The only thing that was important was how miserable he was going to be all year. He was going to do his very best to get kicked out as soon as possible, that was for sure.

That was the only way Daniel could think of to make sure that he got back to his friends ASAP. That was all that mattered anyway, not all this stupid wand-waving foolishness. Being away from his friends sucked all the coolness out of being a real-life wizard. What point was there to being able to levitate objects if he couldn't even tease Tucker with it? He couldn't even TELL his friends what he was really doing, because it was against some stupid law of the wizards!

Now someone was singing. Very badly, he might add. Daniel looked around, and at first he couldn't spot the person who was singing. There was an old raggedy hat on a stand with a torn brim, and the Headmistress behind the podium -but wait.... the hat itself was the source of the singing. Daniel's eyes widened, and then his hand came up to slap against his face in a weary facepalm of annoyance. When were things going to get less ridiculous around here? Daniel had a sinking feeling that things were only going to get worse from here on out.

When the hat had finally finished its song, names began to be called out. They started with the 'A' last names, so Daniel knew he was in for a long wait. He sighed noisily, not caring if anyone heard him being rude. He didn't plan on being here long anyway. When his name was finally called, Daniel stalked up to the stool and put the hat on his head grumpily. Are you going to tell me which stupid House you're going to put me in? he thought, irritated with the entire process by now. Just come out with it so I know which table NOT to sit at. Daniel was planning on stretching all the rules he could, even the unspoken ones that said he had to sit at his house table. He was a kid with a serious attitude problem at the moment.

"Get this over with? Lucky for you, it's easy to see where you'll do best. Hufflepuff!"

This was the moment. The moment that Charlie would finally be sorted into one of the four houses, each with their own benefits. The young brunette walked into the great hall and her eyes lit up. It looked like a scene from a movie that she had watched previously. Only special effects would be able to do this wonderful environment. Well special effects or magic. The young girl wondered briefly how many of her favourite movies were produced by witches and wizards using magic instead of the muggle technology of computers and graphics. This thought did not last long as she wondered closer to the front of the Great Hall with the rest of her students.
Luckily, Charlie did not have to wait long and dwell on which house she would be sorted into. Her last name did afterall start with an "A". Waiting briefly for the few students that were called ahead of her, Charlie watched intently, absentmindedly twirling a small piece of her hair in her fingers. Finally it was time, the voice called out "Arden, Charlie"
Taking a small breath and throwing a smile on her face, Charlie walked to the front of the Great Hall and sat upon the chair provided waiting for her fate that would last for the next seven years of her Hogwarts career.

As he stood there with the other first years, Daylen couldn't help but bounce around from foot to foot like an excited schoolboy. This was all so new to him, the fact magic was real and the added excitement that he was going to be a part of all this. Any sane person should feel the same way he did right in that moment as he waited for his name to be called out. Unfortunately, as his last name begins with a W from his father instead of the R of his mother, that mean he would be standing around for a long time. But the curly haired boy decided that this just meant he would have more time to look around the hall, instead of paying attention to the people in front of him getting sorted. He was even pushing a few people out of the way to try and get a better look at some of the house tables.

Thankfully they did finally get to the bottom end of the alphabet, his mouth widening into a grin as his name was finally called out, echoing around the Great Hall. Bouncing a little on the balls of his feet, the boy moved through the few students that remained behind him, spinning on his feet to slowly lower himself into the stool. This was it, this was the start of everything. Daylen couldn't help but wriggle a little with the nerves, scrunching his eyes up and clutching the sides of the stool with both hands, gripping on so hard his knuckles were starting to turn white. "Please put me in the right house," he begged the old sorting hat as it was placed on his brown curls. "And you really need a clean," he added after a moment, nose wrinkling up just a little, "You don't smell too fresh. But looking good, y'know, for a hat."

The first thing Marzen noticed were the vast amounts of students. There was a lot of new kids starting that year at hogwarts and he already knew about six or seven of them, But yet here he was still scared that no one would talk to him. In the two months of living in New Zealand he'd only really talked to his sister Missouri, not really making that much of an effort to get along with the other kids in the house, but here he was standing next to Alina, a girl who lived with them. He'd talked to her a few times but they'd never really bonded, yet it felt good to have someone familiar standing close by him.

He stood alongside her as the headmistress started talking about rules and Marzen's gaze wandered. He just wanted to get out of this room, away from the other students eyes staring at the large group of new students and sleep. The Headmistress started to call out students names and Marzen watched as Alina was called up in the first few, then moving away to sit at a table. He waited another few minutes which felt like hours until his own name was called up. "Svajone, Marzen." He hesitated. Fingers playing with the hem of his robes. He didn't want to go up there in front of all the students. His name was called again and he stopped stalling, Alina was staring at him from her new table mouthing at him to go. He moved. Slowly. The crowd parted for him and he sat on the stool.

The hat was placed on his head, the rim dipping over his eyes, blocking out the gazes of the entire room for which he was grateful. "Please," he thought. "Just let me go and sit down."

The New Yorker waited with a gaggle of students to enter through the large brown wooden doors, and proceed to have a word with the sorting hat. Despite having never seen the inside of the Great Hall, Harley could imagine its bright white lights glowing above the students heads, and the colours of food spread out unconditionally in front of the hungry inmates. There were more important things happening on this day though, and Harley was ready to be institutionalised and branded into her house. If she was honest, she would have preferred the evening to be progressing a little faster, yet she was forced to congregate with the pack of new first years.

As the doors opened, Harley took the steps that began her walk of finalisation. So many months of waiting, wondering, what would she be? Now there was simply no turning back, and as her name was spoken loudly, her pulse raced and her heart pumped hard as she made her way up the stone steps to the sorting hat. She'd spent her childhood alone, forgotten and unrequired. The next seven years of her life, she decided, would be slightly different.

Danyel's eyes began to glow as they stepped into the Great Hall. A little unsure to this feeling of being presented, as the other boys and girls who would be sorted with him. Walked into their position on the Great Hall. Danyel watched the happenings around him with interested eyes. He rarely saw anything like this. He almost got reminded of his adventures when he was younger. Exploring his family's home surrondings and finding new exciting things. Most attention he spend on though, was seeing which houses got the most students, and how those students looked like. Danyel tried to see if the sorting hat had a pattern based on anything. It of course didn't seem so, but maybe there was one deep within. But Danyel pulled himself back from asking those questions, it would just hurt his brain in the end, or make him seem strange if he spaced out in the middle of the ceremony.

"Withsby, Danyel!"

It almost made his entire body shook, he was right to stop himself right there. He was a bit shorter than the average boy his age, as he pushed himself through the crowd a little. He was excited, this feeling he has missed for so long. The feeling of something new, something exciting was coming up. In his head, he was still with questioning the hat's way of sorting, he was still with questioning the secrets of the wonders of the school he had already seen. Danyel's mind couldn't rest, wouldn't rest. But with a swallow he tried to ignore it as he stepped up and nodded, getting ready for the sorting hat to be put onto him. His body reacted the same, only a bit weaker, than his name was called out earlier, as the hat was placed on his head.

<SIZE size="50">Zared Katsaros had heard stories of Hogwarts New Zealand, he had heard many good and bad things about this school, and yet he wasn't sure how much he really wanted to be at it, of course as a pureblood he'd been expected to both be magic and get his magical education but the boy wasn't interested in learning with others, or really being a part of any team, he wanted to just get through the work by himself and not worry about all those around him. He didn't like other people, he particularly hated muggleborns and was so frustrated that he was going to have to share a school with them, he knew that he would have to hold everything back in dealing with them if he got forced into some situation where he had to. The pureblood knew that would definitely be unlikely to happen, but if it did he was going to be annoyed, not only because of their lack of good blood but also because it meant he would have to work with someone, and Zared hated that almost as much as he hated people. Being the youngest son, but the middle child, Zared was often and purely by chance left to his own devices and he thrived under such conditions, he wasn't afraid of hurting others to get exactly what he wanted, he wasn't afraid of being alone or having no friends because to him this school was not a building for social endeavours but it was for him to push his education and one day he hoped he might be in the highest position of authority in this country, in this community of wizards, but that was a long way off for now, and the boy knew that at the very least he had to begin his education before he could think of the better world he would build. The boy ssshed some excited girl in front of him who almost bursting with giggles as he walked with pride into the hall with the rest of his soon to be classmates, despite all his hang ups about the school and about people in general, Zared had made a friend before coming to this place. A feat which had surprised him more than he could ever care to admit, though his new friend was more like him than he could've imagined, albeit a little more forward, a tad more twisted and definitely more likely to act upon his thoughts, but it was a friend nonetheless, and he was almost glad of the friendship, in this large and unknown school Zared was glad to have more than his annoying older brother to rely on.

The moment they walked into the hall, Zared stuck by his new friend, Lestat, not helping the small shake of his head and light chuckle at how eager Lestat was to start picking on people, Zared didn't particularly want to pick on people, but he couldn't help that agree that all the people he was pointing at would make pretty good targets, "Lestat, sorting first, victims later," he kept his sentence brief speaking quickly and quietly, he didn't particularly like speaking and opted more often than not to really keep quiet. The boy glanced passed his new friend and to his new friend's twin who seemed less than pleased to have to stand with him, and Zared with her, he liked Lestat, and he enjoyed annoying her, but he had taken an instant dislike her to her and really he felt she thought the same of him, it was odd to the pureblood that Lestat and her were siblings, since he got on well with one and not the other. Zared's attention however was stolen away from his companions to the front of the hall where the professor stood with the sorting hat, and the stool, and of course the hat began singing, something he didn't think would at all be happen though he'd been told it would, Zared had lived in denial of it o. You wouldn't get that ridiculousness within Durmstrang, a singing hat, Zared audibly sighed and looked at his new friend as if to say, this is stupid but Zared endured and thankfully the song came to a definitive end, but this was only the start of the night, and now they were to all be sorted. Zared's older brother was a Gryffindor, but Zared didn't at all want to be with him, he was forever in the boy's shadow at home, and he didn't want the same of this school, and that was the only house he would actively be unhappy with should he be sorted into it, even if Zared might be able to admit he could make a good Gryffindor, but he believed he lacked the loyalty or the loudness for such a place. The hufflepuffs seemed fine, but he wasn't friendly, he wasn't kind or welcoming, he wasn't open minded or open armed, Ravenclaw for brains, and then Slytherin, which he could admit to believing himself most suited for, he was hard working, and where his intelligence maybe lack he definitely made up for in his work, in how hard he worked. He used most others to achieve his own ends, he was noble and pure and...

Katsaros, Zared,

A voice spoke out and Zared was startled a little into moving forward, but he quickly recovered, brushing a hand through his dark brown hair as he walked up to the stool, a bored smirk sat on his face as he looked out to the school looking back at him, wasting a small amount of time to find Lestat in the crowd of first years left and smirking at him, as if to say, I'm ready for this. The hat was placed in his head, and knowing to be polite to old magic, he greeted the hat in his mind with all the respect that he would show to any of his elders.

The day had finally come for Casimir to be sorted. It had been a quiet trip over. Cas had sat with his sister on the train; he knew she was nervous but he didn't really have much to say. Each others presence was probably enough to keep each other calm. He also knew that if he tried talking to her, Sianna would've snapped at him. So it was better that the twins sat in silence, doing their own thing. At this school, Sianna and Casimir only had each other. Surely, they would make friends, but for the moment, he knew no one else.
Casimir stood, staring at each part of the Hall. He knew what was to come. They would be sorted, and then they would have new 'families' for seven years. Casimir didn't like to think of them as family, but he had heard the term before. There was a huge variety of people there, and more than a few people he instantly knew he couldn't trust, or get along with. No, they were not like his family. He stood next to his twin, listening to what the Headmistress had to say. She was annoying already. She seemed like the person that, if her insides were to be opened up, it would just be full with rainbows and glitter. It disgusted Casimir. But he kept his face even, and listened to the song the Sorting Hat sang. Casimir would have liked to be placed with his sister, but he was quite indifferent to where he would end up. Their names would be soon, but he still had to wait, impatiently, for his turn. He would be before his twin. At his name, he moved soundlessly to the stage, and waited for his House to be called out.

Casper Skygge glanced around at his surroundings, drawing in the fresh environment of Hogwarts. He smiled, breathing in the thick, cold air and exhaling, changing his gaze to the surrounding to-be first years. All around him he heard the soft and excited tittering of his fellow classmates, discussing the upcoming sorting ceremony and what houses they wanted to be in. Packs and flocks of kids shouted for Gryffindor. Others softly spoke of Slytherin and their devious ways. Another group packed together, calling joy for Ravenclaw. And finally, a select few bubbled and boiled over Hufflepuff.

Casper's smile widened as the large oak doors swung open, the children flocking into the room and gaping at the ornate walls and statues surrounding them. Higher years lined the four long, wooden tables that lined the room. They all came to a halt at the base of a small stage-like area, where a stool and a hat- the Sorting Hat- stood solemnly.

One by one, the children were called up and sorted into their houses. Groups of boys and girls cheered as they received their new members. Now, though, it was Casper's turn.

He took a steady breath and approached the stool. Slowly, he lifted himself up and onto it, and the hat was placed onto his head. He twirled the fabric of his robe around his fingers impatiently. 'Come on,' he thought, 'hurry up and sort me already. Ravenclaw, Gryffindor, even Slytherin, just... not Hufflepuff, please...'

He took a gulp of cold air and glanced out into the crowd, afterwards closing his eyes and waiting to finally be sorted.

Celebi was nearly bouncing off the walls. Not only had she spent the whole day with Meloetta, her sister, she was now to be sorted with her. Much to her twin's dismay her petite fingers gripped the other girl's hand as they made their way into the great hall. The sights were extravagant, the smells overwhelming, and to be honest the excitement within Celebi was near to making her hyperventilate. The petite Irish woman was filled with wonder as names were called out one, by one, by one. She was nervous beyond belief as the alphabet dwindled to the k's, and she parted from her sister at the calling of her name.

Approaching the stool Celebi's knees wobbled and she felt a sort of pang in her gut from the butterflies. She took a seat, the stool warm from the man children sitting on it. As the hat covered her grey eyes she closed them and smiled. "Thank you for sorting me Mr. Hat, can you make sure Meloetta and I get into the same house? I've not seen her since Christmas and we have tons of talking to do. Does it confuse you when you have twins? I mean we're identical after all." The woman continued to ramble in her mind as she waited for the answer of where she would sit.

There was a silent storm brewing in Meloetta's head as her sister stood beside her, bouncing with her hand in a death grip. It was rare that this much time was spent with her Irish counterpart, but now that they'd be attending the same school - parents choice - the girls would probably see more of each other than needed. With a roll of her eyes and a false smile Mel let go of her sister's hand and urged her up. That woman had enough energy to kill her twice over if she were to explode. It was honestly frightening. Meloetta was drawn from those thoughts though as her sister hopped off the stool, and she took note of the house the woman was sorted into.

The blonde approached the stool and sat straight. She was unsure of whwere she would be placed but cared not in actuality. Instead she let the hat do it's choosing with out any other opposition than, "Please let me be in a different house than Celebi."

<SIZE size="50">Usually so self-assured, Ares couldn't help the sweat forming on his hands, he couldn't help the way his mind had barely stayed focused on any one story, that he'd practically thrown a book out the window, there was no reason to be nervous, he had absolutely no reason to be, his brother had told them exactly what would happen, how easy and painless the process would be but it didn't stop his fears and worries from surfacing with all the might an vengeance that they could muster. It didn't stop him from feeling nervous and worrying endlessly over what would happen, he couldn't help but be protective over his brother in a small fear that they might be split up, not that this ever would be the worst thing to happen since despite their differences their bond was easy and good, but Ares was still worried that it might, was still afraid that being split from his brother would have consequences that even the greatest seer could not predict and well, he knew that this was over reacting but he honestly couldn't help it. His mind was active with every possible story of what could go wrong, or every outcome where something awful happened, and he couldn't seem to get passed it at all.

Stepping into the great hall, Ares glanced around himself and just smiled, glancing at his brother with a wide grin and feeling just the joy of this sorting, and as they walked forward, he glanced round from his brother and looked where his brother had told him the other Ravenclaws were and tried to spot Isaiah, whom he spotted with ease as the boy was perched up slightly and then waved to himself and Xavier, Ares nudged his twin excitedly and then pointed over to where their brother was still waving a little. Ares suddenly became aware that they had stopped and he took the opportunity to look forward and instantly spotted the hat that his brother had talked about. Ares didn't know where he might end up but he wanted to be a Hufflepuff, it had taken careful reading, and thought and many a story as him as a brave knight or cunning snake, or him studying with his brother, and just the yellow of hufflepuff he wanted more than anything. With that in mind the boy turned to the front where the sorting hat had just finished his song and the names were being called, and all too soon, his was.

Jeffreys, Ares

And with that Ares wiped his hands on his trousers as he made his way up to the stool and then sat down, easily spotting Isaiah who was once again perched on his chair to see, and Ares waved happily at his brother, the smile clear on his face, he could imagine a four different outcomes with hundred's of possibilities to follow but all he really wanted was one outcome and that set of endless possibilities that would follow.

Octavian had long been looking forward to his sorting ceremony but all thoughts of where he would end up disappeared once he entered the Great hall and began the journey through the tables to the front where the sorting hat waited. It was almost a little foreboding, at least for people with even the hint of nerves but Octavian was well prepared for this moment and any nerves had left him once he finally laid eyes on the school he had been waiting to attend his whole life. Standing next to his sister in the crowd of students he nudged her gently and grinned as one by one they were called up to learn their fate.

Due to their last names Octavian and his sister were some of the last to be sorted. His sister was first up, he winked and wished her good luck as she passed him and a few moments later when she went off to her new table Octavian took his seat and had the hat lowered onto his head, he couldn't help but wonder if he would soon be joining his sister. The boy tried to clear his head best he could as the hat was placed on his head, trying to focus on his preferred destination, Octavian waited for his fate to be decided.

<SIZE size="50"><FONT font="georgia">Sianna Djordjevic couldn't quite hold her nerves for this, she'd checked that she had everything four, five times over, and just muttered small curses in serbian as she did so, there was a part of the girl that couldn't believe she'd actually been persuaded to go to this school so far from her home, Sia was cursing the very fact Tobiah had pretty much gotten kicked out of Durmstrang and that had made her family less likely to send them there. There was nothing but nerves inside of Sianna, she wasn't usually like this, but there was something about being sorted that scared her a little, made her nervous and short, hence why on the train ride to the school she'd barely spoken a word to her brother, they'd barely shared anything in that time but the actual journey itself. Sianna had been reading her old and worn book about the Greek gods she'd gotten while in Greece, it was translated into Serbian cyrillic and much like her brother, she had brought many books in her own language, knowing that while they spent this time in New Zealand it was still their native tongue and she hardly wanted to lose that. After all, they were alone in this school, she didn't know if anyone else in the entire school would know their language and it definitely would allow her to at least speak with Casimir in private. Sia kept herself at arms length from her brother as they walked into the hall, she took the time as they were shown in to smooth out her uniform, and brush her hair with her fingers, adjusting it, a nervous smile sitting on her lips.

The serbian girl looked to the hat at the front and couldn't help but wonder what this would be like for her, if it was in her language, if it wasn't in english, Sianna's english was getting stronger and stronger with every day, given the time she was spent using the language in a practical manner rather than just in a fun learning tool from the old movies. She loved them, she loved hearing the way they used to speak and the old gowns that were barely replicated today, Sia glanced at the different students sitting in each of their rightful places. She couldn't help but be both excited and nervous to be sorted, she wanted this be right, she didn't want to have to be unhappy but she knew so little about each of them that she was sure they could just be suited to all of them. Only time would tell as to which she might be placed. Sianna wondered where Casimir would be placed and she was sort of really hoping they wouldn't be placed together, Sianna loved her brother, she did, she was protective of him, but she would really rather to not have to spend the next seven years cleaning up his messes, not that she really would do that, but her loyalty to family meant that at least the thought would be there. Sia had read countless books on the sorting process so was not surprised when he began singing, she knew it wasn't the same hat as in the other Hogwarts, though it held the same properties, the same sort of magic. The girl had read plenty about it, and given her first name, she wasn't too surprised when all of a sudden her brother was being sorted and then it was her,

Djordjevic, Sianna

Sianna couldn't help but cringe a little at how her name had been said but walked with confidence up to the stool, she glanced out at the school and couldn't help but think that this would be a perfect moment for her camera, a perfect moment for a picture with so many keen faces looking up at her. Sia smiled a little as she thought of this, looking forward to all the pictures she would take, and all the books she would read in this school, all the magic she would learn, this would be fun.

Lennon walked with the mass of students feeling anxious and excited at the same time. He listened to the Headmistress give the instructions and waited as the first set of students was sorted. He looked around at the four tables and wondered where he would end up. He knew his father had been a Ravenclaw at this school, but his mother had been a Hufflepuff at Hogwarts Scotland. Would the Sorting Hat know that and put him in one of those Houses based on that? What if he didn't belong in either house? And where would his sister end up?

Lennon didn't have to wait for very long before his name was called up. He glanced over at his sister and gave her a smile that said 'Here goes nothing' and made his way up to the front of the masses. He wiped his palms against his robes before sitting on the stool and pulling the hat over his head, hoping it could give him answers to the questions he had. Where did he belong?

CLARK, BELLA

It was her turn, as she was walking up there her thoughts started to plague her with doubts. But all of that stopped when she put on the hat now was her time to know the truth.

The little girl with a pink bow on her hair wiped her cheeks one last time. She wasn't a little girl anymore when she got that acceptance letter on her eleven birthday but the pink bow was a reminder of her mother who always puts it on her head. Meena cried and cried until they came here at Hogwarts but she promised herself that this will be the last time. She looked around to see her future friends and smiled to herself, everything changes once they're sorted, though, right now they're just equal and do not belong to any caste.

The doors opened to the great hall while they filed in two single neat lines. Meena's expression was in awe, the great hall was just stunning, she might be living with a witch at home but never seen her mother lifted anything using magic except charming the kitchen sink to wash the dishes. They started to go inside and the four tables full of students started to stare at them, Meena gulped, nervous at the eyes that seems to wonder where would they end up.

She just hope she knew someone here. The introductions started when the headmistress came up in front and the sorting started. The first one was a Slytherin and it went on and on until Meena was called, it was like the world stopped; her palm sweaty and her breathing going slower. Her parents told her how the sorting hat works. Talk ... a never ending talk on your mind. Meena took a deep breath before going in front and taking a sit on the stool, once the sorting hat was on her head she was still stunned, her mind block.

Now, my mother said to just let out whatever I'm thinking and I'm thinking about my future here at Hogwarts. I have no idea what house should I be but my parents told me I'm a Slytherin material, though, I don't think I am. I guess I'll trust you, Sorting hat. Make your magic.

Zara had heard so little of Hogwarts New Zealand except that her father had gone to school here in Ravenclaw. It hurt to ask too much about who he was because she knew only that she was missing him in her life even if she didn't know him personally. With how little foresight she had into this, Zara felt that if it weren't for Lennon being by her side for this it would be a little much to bare. Sometimes a little comfort like his presence did her good even if she would be the first to claim otherwise so that her twin wouldn't tease her at all. So as she returned his smile Zara couldn't help but hope they'd be placed in the same house. Before she had much time to think of how pleased she was for him, she found herself sitting on that same stool.

The girl tapped her feet nervously and looked at the four tables before her. She had read a little about the Sorting Hat and a lot about the houses and knew Ravenclaw would be right for her. Gryffindor was too foolhardy. Slytherin was too ambitious. Hufflepuff was too much a reminder of her mother. While she had a little of each in her personality Zara also refused to be anything but Ravenclaw. Sure she wouldn't fly but she was meant to have wings this way. The witch could only hope this hat had enough sense to realize this too as she'd read that asking helps too. She waited on baited breath to hear.

As Sith walked into the great hall, she could feel a million pairs of eyes staring at her. She didnt care so much about the attention, afterall people would come to know her name. She was content to let her fellow first years assemble first, and patiently waited for her turn to be sorted.

Being magical hadn't come as a shock to Sith, shed always known it ran in the family and after an embarassing family incident a few years ago, she had be positive her letter would arrive.

10 months later and here she was, ready to take her place in her new school. There would be much to learn, much to teach, and Sith couldnt wait to get started. As her name was called, she made her way forward, smiling out to those watching, sat on the stool, and waited.

Half an hour ago Troy Cantor was sitting in a compartment of a steam engine called Hogwarts Express, trying to piece together just how his life had gotten so expectantly turned on his head. From the mysterious letter and the visit of the extremely, nice man telling him about a world that sounded unreal, to the most peculiar shopping he had ever gone in his life.

The eleven years old boy was for bigger surprises when he arrived at the magic school that its name he couldn't yet pronounce correctly. He couldn't believe that this gigantic castle was going to be his home for the rest of his student years and that he was going to practice magic with that piece of stick he had bought along with the other strange objects and books in his school list.

Troy stood there, looking rather gobsmacked at everything within this vast hall he and the other first years were taken. He had overheard the conversations of a few of them discussing about the ceremony that was going to take place but he was still clueless of what exactly was going to happen in the following minutes. It was hard to keep his focus on one thing while lit candles were hovering in the air around him and a starry sky was flying over his head on the ceiling. However, the old hat on the stool earned his attention for a longer time as the boy tried to make some sense out of the its weird song and attempted to figure out how it could possibly move and speak through that seam line.

There was a pause afterwards and Troy was standing almost frozen in the group with his green eyes dancing to every corner and his fists clenched to prevent them from trembling. He wasn’t sure what to expect next and what they expected him to do with the live hat. From what he had made out, this fella of fabric and irregular patches was going to decide in which house he was going to be placed. Troy had no knowledge of what represented each four of them and what meant to be members of them. He only had heard of their strange names he didn't memorized so far but he could distinguish them by their mascots. Still he was uncertain of how this decision was going to be taken.

The first student name was called and Troy stood on his toes to have a better look over the other first years' heads. The summoned girl went for the stool and had a seat. The professor or whoever was the adult standing beside, placed the hat on the first year's head and suddenly it seemed like everyone in the hall were holding their breaths. Terrified he blinked when the talking hat suddenly yelled one of the houses. The hall exploded in a deafening round of applause and he joined them as well, not sure if the girl was indeed sorted in a worthy house or not. The girl hopped off the stool relieved and went for the table of her new house.

Even though the whole process was completely clear to him after the next couple of students were also sorted, the muggle-born boy was still a bit scared of the moment he was going to sit on that stool as well. He kept reminding himself it was just a hat and it wasn't expecting him to perform anything extraordinary. The truth was he couldn't perform anything extraordinary. He still wasn't sure how exactly he made his new wand spit those sparks at Ollivanders a few days ago. He could just perform that trick with the coin but he doubted whether it was considered magic or not here. What the talking hat was doing seemed like mind reading to him and Troy was worried it was going to find out he was (so far) absolutely unrelated with the whole notion of magic.

"Cantor Troy!" The adult's voice announced.

Everything went quiet. The boy could only hear his heart pounding wildly in his ears. He had no idea how his feet started taking the steps that brought him to the stool. When he sat down he realized it was hard to swallow when his throat had gone completely dry. The hat was placed on his head and a soft, musty scent of old cloth reached his nostrils. The fact that many pairs of eyes were fixed on him were freaking him out so he preferred to close his own and wait for the hat's decision.

Arthur Alban had been fussing all week. His parents had flown down to New Zealand with him two days previous. Arthur brushed his robes, a peice of dust bothering him, or maybe just to seem busy. He looked around at the other students, observing their movements and actions, cautious to not make eye contact until after the sorting. Arthur thought about his family, his parents, and annoying three little sisters. He already missed them, but he knew sooner than later he would be too busy to even write home.

Being led into the hall, Arthur was so surprised at how big it was. The older students were all go merry and the teachers looked very pleasant. He admired how many lights hung in the hall with the rest of the decorations. Forming a clump at the end of the hall, Arthur kept his eyes low feeling like a lab rat of some sort. He cursed under his breath once he realized the sorting was done alphabetically by last name.

"Alban, Arthur"

Arthur obediently walked over to the chair, blushing when the hat fell over his eyes. "What happens now?" He murmured under his breath. Waiting.

After accidently ditching Marzen on the train journey she caught up to him in the entrance hall and quickly hugged him. She then gaped in awe at the magical Great Hall. Above their very own heads were hundreds of candles floating in mid air. Magic was a wonderful thing and pretty soon she'd be learning it alongside the other students, hopefully all of them becoming her new friends.

Practically dragging Marzen to the front of the group of kids as they made their way past the long house tables she stood in front of the headmistress who was currently telling them how the forbidden forest was, well forbidden. She ignored this and looked along the row of professors taking in each and every face she'd see in the next few years. She absolutely couldn't wait. When the sorting began she watched as a few kids went before her and then at last her name was called. She turned to give Marzen another hug and to whisper good luck into his ear, she quickly walked forward and watched as the headmistress placed the old hat upon her head. She couldn't care less what house she was in, whatever the hat chose would be great because no matter what house she'd be in, there would be plenty of new people to discover, but she knew that as soon as she was able to she'd be out of the hall and into the forbidden forest. What could be so scary out there?

Oh sure, give that mouldy old hat a seat! Thought Kaia as the soon to be sorted first years gathered in front of a hat placed on a wooden stool and presented to the students like it was something to be marvelled at. She had no idea what all this was about. Her brother hadn't told her anything useful about Hogwarts, nothing she could believe. I mean living portraits that weren't plasma TV's framing the walls, and creatures which were half man, half horse roaming the grounds. It was laughable and so typical of her brother to mess with her, she refused to fall for another of his practical jokes.

Kaia almost jumped out of her skin when the hat started singing though! What was this place? She understood the lyrics perfectly well, but the content made no sense to her. She tried to follow but was still none the wiser when it did eventually shut up. She raised an eyebrow curiously, watching her peers begin to try the hat on for fit one by one. This was all very strange and Kaia really felt she was missing a key piece of information. Namely, why was everyone trying on the old hat, and when would Sorting begin?

"Te Rua, Kaia."

Oh no, did she have to try the hat on as well? She eyed the person who went before her, namely for general hygiene and likelihood of head lice but the hat was placed on her head before she got a chance to protest! It was that moment she realised that this was the Sorting and the hat was a mind reader! Suddenly her thought were much more pleasant toward the mouldy old Sorting Hat.
