Sophia's quick walk turned into a run once she hit the Entrance Hall and she went straight outside, unsure of where else to go. The cool air hit her tear-stained cheeks and she ran across the lawn and into the forest where she collapsed onto her knees. Doubling over Sophia broke into full-blown crying, unable to contain herself any longer.

Her entire life had just been turned upside down, and this time nearly the entire school had been there to witness it. Sophia had finally gotten the dance she had always dreamed of with Bruin and it had caused a fist fight between him and Ford complete with food being thrown, ending in Ford yelling at her in front of everyone at the Yule Ball.

Were things not already bad enough for Sophia? Her father was a Death Eater who was trying to ruin her life because of some prophecy, her grandfather was trying to pretend he was not a Death Eater and convince her to trust him, she had just found out that her memory had been tampered with and things were missing from her memory, and she had probably just lost her best friend, Bruin.

There was no one left who Sophia trusted enough to talk to. Who could she go to now? She could not think of anyone and this simply made her cry harder. Sophia let herself fall completely to the ground and curled up in the fetal position. She hoped she was far enough away from the castle that no one would bother her as she cried. Sophia had already been humiliated enough times tonight.

Nicolas left the Great Hall, Cecily at his side. He smiled as they entered the crisp winter's night air. He was glad to be out of the hall where students gave their occasional stares, judgemental or not, being stared at was unsettling. He was also glad he had a chance to think before punishing Bruin, he didn't know what exactly had happened but a fight during the Yule Ball is not something that occurs every year, and certainly nothing he had expected from Bruin. Bruin was a prefect and there were certain standards he was expected to adhere to.
Nicolas walked out onto the lawn, "That was.... interesting, wasn't it?" he mused aloud.

Cecily chuckled. "That's one way to put it." She looked up at the night sky, rubbing her arms as they became a bit chilled in the cold night air. "I never would have expected it out of Bruin. He always seems so mild mannered, so polite. I guess it's true what they say, watch out for the quiet ones," she grinned. She mulled over the events of the night, starting to feel a bit odd about their public kiss. While it'd surpassed what she thought their first kiss would be like, the thought that her students had seen her public display of affection left her unsettled. She sighed. It hadn't mattered a whit to her once it was happening but now. She was grateful they'd all be going home for the holidays and would hopefully have something else to gossip about come next term.

Nicolas noted Cecily rubbing her arms. He took off his cloak-jacket and offered it to her. "I've told you, charming your clothing is the way to go." he said with a smirk. "You're right though, Bruin's involvement was a little surprising, I mean he'd done things before, but usually in the name of fun. Pranks for the most part. A fight is a new one for the books."

"Thank you," she smiled at him, pleased at his manners. The cloak was settled upon her shoulders and provided a nice warmth. "Maybe you could teach me the charm sometime," she teased him, thinking of how handy it could be during the winter months. "Pranks? Anything good?" she asked curiously, grinning.

"I recall a creature he found in the Trophey room which emitted an awful smell, so he figured it a good idea to place in front of my office door." Nicolas explained, "That of course went unpunished but there were others I cannot recall." he concluded, hearing now a soft sobbing in the distance. He stopped walking and turned to Cecily, "Do you hear that?"

Cecily burst out laughing at the mental image. "I didn't know he did things like that!" she said, grinning and thinking to exchange notes on pranks with Mr. Dumbledez. She stopped short when Nicolas stopped.
"Is that...is someone crying?" she said, looking up at him and then around them.

"I think it is." Nicolas confirmed, a concerned look on his face now. "Would you say that's coming from the forest?" he enquired, wondering if it was a student out here crying, and if so, why?

Cecily's blood ran cold. Without thinking about it, she picked up her skirts about her knees and ran toward the sound, rushing to get to the person crying. She panted and ran the fastest she had in her adult life, skidding to a stop when she was in the forest and saw someone curled up on the floor, weeping. Her thoughts ran back to that horrible night, where another student had lain crying on the forest floor. "Nicolas!" she cried out, looking back for him frantically before she fell to her knees beside the girl. Gently she pushed the long black hair from her face and saw to her shock that is was Sophia Stark, a fourth year Slytherin and prefect. "Sophia? What's wrong? Where are you hurt?" she said, looking for any signs of blood.

Nicolas ran behind Cecily when she suddenly broke into a run toward the forest. He arrived moments after her and drew his wand as she knelt beside Cecily, figuring that having a wand drawn near the forest was never a bad idea. He chose not to speak, allowing Cecily to help Sophia.

Sophia was a bit startled when she heard voices around her, but she did not move to look at either of them. She could recognize who was speaking to her, and through all of her pain Sophia was slightly touched to see that Professor Rambolt at least cared about her well-being.

Her thoughts were a bit of a blur, being in emotional shock at the moment. It suddenly dawned on Sophia that Professor Rambolt was witnessing her in a moment of complete and utter weakness. "Please...leave me...alone..." she sputtered out between sobs.

"We're here to help you," Cecily stated firmly, trying to reign in her initial panic. "Are you hurt anywhere? Did you fall?"

Nicolas felt at this point that there was no threat to anybody and put his wand back in his robe pocket. He watched as Cecily tried to understand what was wrong with Sophia. Sophia and him weren't on the best terms anymore and so he simply watched, unsure if he should stay.

Sophia wanted to stop crying, to be able to hide her show of weakness from Professor Rambolt, but she could not find it in her. She was too emotionally broken to pull herself together. "Not...physically," she whispered, now feeling bad for having worried the Professor. Surely to her it looked much worse than it really was, with Sophia lying curled up on the Forest floor crying and unable to speak properly.

Cecily reached for Nicolas hand, squeezing it as she sagged in relief. "Oh thank Merlin," she whispered, feeling herself go weak. The girl wasn't hurt...it wasn't like before. She closed her eyes, gathering her strength quickly. Sophia was still in pain, it might not be physical but it was still there. She drew on her inner strength and found a calmness she didn't know was there anymore.
"Come with us," she said soothingly, resting a hand on the girl's shoulder.

A wave of confusion rolled over Sophia. "Us?" She had only heard one voice. Who else would be here? Who else had seen her in her weakness? Sophia rolled over slightly, moving her head to see who else was there. The tears were still flowing liberally but she was silent.

Sophia's eyes widened in horror when she saw Professor King. She had not spoken to him since their altercation earlier in the year and she was not sure what he would make of this now. At least he had seen her cry before, so she was not showing her weakness to anyone else new.

"No, just...leave me." Sophia rolled back over onto her side and hoped that the two professors would leave. She was sure they would not allow her to remain alone in the Forest, but she could try and hope.

"Ms. Stark, I would like it very much if you did as Professor Rambolt has suggested." Professor King said in a calm tone, "Lying on the ground in winter isn't good for you, let alone the fact that you're in the Forbidden Forest."

He didn't like to see somebody so prideful and strong on the ground crying, let alone one of his students. He hoped she would accept their help.

Sophia listened to Professor King's words, a bit shocked to hear them. He cares about me? No, he just cares about his students. But now that she thought about it, his words did make sense. She had been ignoring the cold in lieu of her emotions, but now she felt it. Her arms were bare and her dress was not meant to be worn outside in the cold.

However, as Sophia thought more on it, she decided that she did not care about her well-being anymore. She almost preferred that a bowtruckle come and stab her eyes out so that she could die in the Forest instead of facing her peers again after the events of the night.

Unsure of what to say Sophia simply remained silent, letting the tears continue to trickle down her cheeks. She was sure she would run out of tears soon, having been crying for some time now.

Professor King was becoming impatient and reached for his wand in his robe pocket. Drawing it he decided he may as well give Cecily her fair chance to get Sophia to come before he stated that they weren't asking any longer.

Cecily sent a pleading look to Nicolas. "Patience," she said for his ears only. She turned back to Sophia. "Sophia, come with me to my greenhouse. I'll make you tea and you can clean up a bit. We could talk about what you're going through or we could spend the time in silence," she said reassuringly, using her most calming and soothing voice. "But you have to get up now, dear."

Sophia listened to Professor Rambolt's offer and thought about it for a bit. She wanted to say no, that she would rather stay in the Forest forever, but she was sure the Professors were not allowed to simply leave her lying here. With a resigned sigh Sophia pushed herself up to a sitting position, her head swimming slightly.

"All right..." she said softly, looking up at Professor Rambolt. Sophia felt and looked absolutely pathetic, her face stained with tears and her eyes red and puffy from crying. Her normal expressionless face was riddled with sadness, hopelessness.

Professor King put his wand back in his robe pocket and smiled at Cecily, she'd done well. He figured Sophia wouldn't have agreed to any such thing for him. He held out an arm to Sophia and smiled, "May I help you up?" he offered, expecting her cold refusal.

Nicolas figured after he escorted the two to Cecily's greenhouse he may leave. He still had to punish Bruin, and to his knowledge Sophia was still fairly upset with him. His presence may not be as welcome under the circumstances as he would normally hope.

Sophia looked up at Professor's King arm, then to his face. She nodded and took his arm, allowing him to help her to her feet. "Thank you," she whispered softly, glad that the tears had finally stopped. Once standing Sophia did not bother to brush herself off, sure that she looked atrocious regardless. She stood rooted to her spot, waiting for the professors to lead the way.

Cecily couldn't help it, Sophia looked so forlorn. Her heart went out to her. She knew intimately what heartache felt like. She wrapped a tentative arm about her shoulders loosely, careful not to force any unwanted attentions on her. "Let's get you cleaned up and a spot of nice tea," she said, leading the way carefully to her greenhouse.

Sophia looked up at Professor Rambolt, too dazed to really care that her arm was around her. "All right," she said absentmindedly and walked slowly with the Professor toward the Greenhouse.
