It was the closest Rory had ever come at Hogwarts to dressing traditionally for an event. He just hadn't thought about it much until well, he'd been mostly cast out of the place. He had a kilt at Hogwarts, of course he had, one that his father had expected him to wear for his graduation and then the wedding he'd be having not long after. Since at least one of those wasn't happening and Rory didn't feel right wearing the family tartan for an event like graduation when he knew none of them would even attend. He'd opted for a more middle ground approach, a tartan suit, of non-family colours. It was from his parent's company but it was an outfit he'd asked for and gotten before everything in his life with them had been discarded. He didn't have any plans for the event itself, having not asked Andi to come with him, not wanting her to do another pity date and therefore not bothering to ask at all. Instead he'd come alone and was stood near the snacks slowly eating one of the biscuits he'd picked up from the table. Maybe he should've just asked her to the dance so he wasn't standing awkwardly alone on his last dance at Hogwarts.

Andi's night was going to be great, and she was sure of it. She was attending the dance to simply have fun and intended see Rory with no intention to pity him or to maintain any other pretenses, and on top of that she was wearing shoes that wouldn't hurt her feet as the night progressed. If she wanted to she could dance, walk around, and spend time with Rory and whoever else she ran into without feeling terrible the entire time so she was nothing other than optimistic about what was ahead. Her outfit for the night was more simple than what she wore to the yule ball, a short black dress that made her feel like she could get away with wearing flats, but this was something she was pleased with as she felt more like herself and comfortable enough generally to have fun. After adding the finishing touches to her appearance Andi made her way towards the great hall, already happy that how quick she was on her feet. She looked around after arriving, soon noticing Rory standing by the snack table and approaching him without any hint of hesitation. "I liked your rose." She said, wanting to make it obvious she did appreciate his effort to send a rose to her. Andi planned to attend the valentine's dance no matter what, but she could admit Rory's rose to her had been more of a reason to make an effort and was why she was going out of her way to speak to him in that moment. It would be a lie if she told herself otherwise.

The slytherin’s mind wandered away from him as he stood alone in the hall, too easily preoccupied to think of anything else when left to his own devices. His brother’s note had really sent him in a bit of a loop. The boy glanced when a familiar voice snapped him out of it. Andi. He nodded, pleased that she had at least liked the rose, he had been a little bold and had hoped to run into her at the dance. He had liked hers too and could note that it was a pink rose despite the supposed pity she felt for him over what she might’ve heard about his current situation but he had certainly not gone into much more detail. Instead he just gave a charming smile to her and nodded. ”Ah’m glad ye liked it,” the slytherin replied easily, ”Ah liked yers tae, but ah think the fact it wis pink gave away that ye werenae doing it oot ae pity, in fact ah believe ye might actually like me,” he could feel she might disagree but he was looking to just banter with her a bit. Maybe not get too much into it not focus too much on it. Just something light and breeze with someone who may or may not like him at all. He could work with either.

Andi was pleased Rory also liked the rose she had sent, though she raised an eyebrow when he hinted the pink rose she sent was for reasons other than pity. Even if that was true she was both too proud to admit it, and too adamant in making sure her night was lighthearted and fun. Delving into feelings wasn't on her agenda and would weigh everything down so she was intent on avoiding it, wanting to keep the conversation playful instead of serious. "Oh, you really think so?" She queried. "If you think an apology and a pity date is enough for me to send that rose because I like you, you're dreaming. You'll need to work harder than that." Andi scoffed, looking away from Rory and out to the hall. It was decorated nicely, in her opinion, the colours were definitely more interesting than the icy tones used for decorating at the yule ball, and the dance floor did look more appealing to her. Whether it was her more comfortable shoes convincing her of this or not, she wanted to properly dance that night and knew it would be much easier to keep herself from falling over or hurting someone. "Dance with me?" Andi said as she glanced back in Rory's direction, hoping he would take her up on her offer.

Rory was more than willing to work for Andi, he liked her, and he wanted her to like him. She was one of the few people he didn’t mind in this school. She didn’t like him too much, or hadn’t liked him, but the fact she had overheard an argument with his brother had maybe softened him a little to her. Not something he was too unhappy about. In all honesty Rory was pretty tired of always having to fight with people,he still had plenty of anger and would use it if necessary, but he didn’t want to with most people. He just raised his eyebrows at the girl and let a charming smirk almost seeing through her lie grace his features. The slytherin let a little silence spill over them, and he was fairly content, but she broke it,looking at him and suddenly asking if he wanted to dance. Rory easily smiled at her and then held out his hand and arm to her, ”Aye,” the slytherin replied. He liked when things were simple and understandable, he liked being able to relax and just focus on the moment, there was too much else in his head currently, that spending a few hours or even just one dance with Andi, where all he focused on was not getting his feet stepped on, then he would do just that.

Andi smiled a little when Rory agreed to dance with her, and she accepted his hand as he held it out, allowing him to lead her to the dance floor. She paused when they reached an empty space between two other pairs of students dancing, and turned to face Rory, placing her hands on his shoulders and beginning to sway to the music. Naturally her gaze moved from his face and down to her shoes. Although spending part of the night with Rory and without any pressure to act formally for his sake, and feeling like her interactions with him were easier and more comfortable than they had ever been, she couldn't keep herself from focusing on her co-ordination or lack thereof. Not being in heels helped a little, but not enough that she could focus her attention solely on who she was dancing with. "Apart from the roses, did you have a good day? and stuff?" Andi eventually asked, feeling brave enough to look up from her shoes again when they were a little further into the song.
