Sixth Years; Lesson 4

Moving about the room, Professor Lyra Potter quickly transfigured the desks to have a large, lighted mirror attached to them so the students would have an easier time of working with the spell. Just as she finished, the students started to file in and stopped, looking a bit confused.

"Come in, come in. Grab a seat! We have a fun topic to cover today and I want to let you have plenty of time to practice!" Professor Potter motioned to the modified desks, smiling at the students confusion. She moved quickly to the front of the room and hopped up on top of her own desk, crossing her legs as the hung off the desk. Assessing the group before her, she counted heads to make sure all were present before continuing.

"Alright. Today we are going to cover color-changing spells. This is a bit of non-verbal magic that you should be able to accomplish with a bit of practice. We are going to work on something small, then you can work up from there." She picked up her wand from her lap, and twirled it in her hands. "Color changing will be achieved by following a few simple steps. First off, you need to concentrate. Picture in your head the object you are trying to change the color of clearly. You want to make sure that you are not distracted so that you don't have any issues with your transfiguration. Second, you want to picture the object changing to the color you want. The more detailed the image in your head, the better your end result will be. Third, tap the object three times." She brought her wand up to her hair, tapping it three times. It quickly changed from its brunette color to a deep shade of pink. Tapping it again, it turned brilliant blonde. Once again, and it became a shade of bright purple.

Professor Potter slid off the desk, leaving her hair the last color she had played with. "Now it’s your turn. Don't forget to concentrate and don't panic! I am here to help you fix any mishaps you might have. It might take a few tries to get it right, but don't give up. I want you to work on a smaller item -- your eyebrows. Now, give it a try, using the mirror to help you out. Have fun!" She gave them a smirk and began to wander around the room, watching for successes and for those who need a bit of help.

Too soon, the class period was over and she restored those who were successful back to normal. As the last student left the room, she restored her own color back from the purple before setting the classroom up for the next group to come in.

Homework: Simply rp the lesson. Have any mishaps you wish! Have fun!

Mikael sat at his desk, arms crossed as the professor explained and demonstrated the color-changing spell. It wasn't that he didn't want to do it, but he definitely didn't want to do it. He'd skimmed over the theory beforehand and the spellwork seemed easy enough. It was also a bit of nonverbal magic so he wasn't entirely opposed to it. But really? Hair? Eyebrows? The thought of altering his appearance to practice spells was less than appealing. Yeah no. He looked at the mirror and focused on it, a dark vivid grin. Tap, tap, tap. On the mirror. And it changed its color. Well, that was one way. He tried it again with his quill. And his parchment. And then his bag. Once he was satisfied and had changed all three items back, he worked on his eyebrows making the almost-black color turn into a very dark reddish-brown. The difference was hardly noticeable but it wasn't his fault if the professor wouldn't notice. There were no uneven colors and it still matched his lineage so it was fine. He tapped his eyebrows and willed them back to their original color before leaving the classroom without a word.

Theo strolled into the classroom, an eyebrow raising at the mirrors attached to the desks. That was certainly new. He dropped into his seat, slouching a little and watched as she explained the day's lesson. Colour-changing spells. That was quite interesting. He had a good hand at transfiguration, but this was a particularly interesting and seemed to be at least a little more entertaining. He watched as the professor changed her hair from brown to pink to blonde to purple and Theo let out a loud obnoxious whistle each time. "Lookin' good Professor!" Nonverbal probably meant subtlety but Theo has never been exactly subtle. He pouted though because the task they were given was... eyebrows? Seriously? He pulled out his wand, tapping it against the desk as he considered the task. He focused on his reflection in the mirror, his dark eyebrows on his face. He pictured them as red. A very vivid Gryffindor red. Tap tap tap. Warmth passed over his skin and he watched as his eyebrows turned red. The shade was a bit off, which made him click his tongue in disapproval. He pictured one of his eyebrows turning green. Slytherin green. Three taps. And the transformation took place more easily. "Not bad, but I still think red's my color. What do you think Professor?" he asked the woman with a grin. Yep. Subtle was definitely not his style.

Hinata idly brushed the tip of her quill on her lips to her cheeks as she listened to Professor Potter explain the color-changing spell. It was definitely an interesting spell, and considering it required nonverbal spellcasting, it definitely required focus and skill - qualities she had been working hard to refine. She studied her reflection in the mirror, examining her eyebrows. They were thin and dark. The color had to be bright and stark for the change to be noticeable. Perhaps flamingo pink? That was going to be embarrassing. Still, she took a deep breath, clearing her mind as she visualized the... new look... she was planning to have. Tapping her wand three times against her brow, she watched nervously. Nothing happened after a moment. And another. And another. And another. Frowning, she figured her spell must have failed so she tried again. This time, her brows did change although instead of the bright pink she envisioned the darkness of her eyebrows merely lightened. Tried again. This time they were a pale pink. One more time. Her brows were finally bright pink although she noticed that the shades were uneven throughout. She would definitely need to work on the spell more.

It was getting closer and closer to break, and Horror Zhefarovich could honestly count the days until he graduated. Horror needed nothing more than to find his own path. He wanted to do something that was not exactly smiled upon that was, at the same time, legal. An executioner was one, but he did not care about magical animals that might have done something terrible. Horror would rather do something that involved less people. That was why he was more into autopsies and whatnot. Even if he had to work in the muggle world, that was what he was dead-set on doing currently. He walked to his classroom with that in mind, sometimes wondering why he bothered with lessons anyway.

Horror walked in the Transfiguration classroom once again, and assumed that today, they would not be working on flowers or water. He guessed it by the vanity mirror. He sat down at one, and wondered how many people looked at one of these and it cracked. He could think of some really ugly people in his year. He disregarded it for now. They would be working on the color-changing spell and for some reason, they would be changing the color of their eyebrows. He practiced with it, and changed them from the dark brown they were to blonde, and then back to brown. There was no way in hell he was going to use crazy colors.

The blonde made her way to the classroom and found her usual spot in the front. She sat ready for the lesson and listened as the professor began. There was an mirror and she didn't mind looking at herself. But she had an feeling where this was gonna go. And as the professor said color changing spells, she rather would use it on someone else. Ofcourse the professor could reverse the spell if something went wrong but she liked the way she looked and hated changes in that.

When the professors hair changed she watched closely. She was glad the professor said they could practice on something smaller the eyebrows. But still she didn't liked it too much. June looked at herself in the mirror, giving an smile at herself. It was nice to look at, she was confident about herself. She looked around in the class to see how others looked at themselves and looked back at herself. June grabbed her wand and did the three tap method as the professor showed and making sure to do it at her eyebrows. She changed her eyebrows to some darker brown, than light blonde and back to lighter brown. She was not gonna use pink or anything else, not even green. That looked ridiculus. It was an spell which was difficult but she managed to be succesfull quicker than she first thought. And she made sure her eyebrows were normal once she left the classroom.

Bailey was always a little wary of professors when they declared they had a fun lesson for them. Usually, she and her professors had different definitions of fun, but with her aunt Lyra planning the lessons for Transfigurations she had a little more faith in her definition of fun. Hers and everyone elses desk being set up to have a mirror on them certainly implied they would be doing something different, would they be casting something on themselves? Aunt Lyra explained they would be performing the colour changing spell which was a non verbal spell and she demonstrated it on her hair. Their task would be to perform the spell on their eyebrows, once the demonstration was done Bailey got to work trying it for herself. She figured it would be easier to pick an obvious colour so there would be no mistaking when she was successful. After a few attempts she managed to turn her eyebrows a very vibrant shade of pink. She for Lyra’s help to turn them back to normal at the end of the lesson and then made her way out of the classroom.
