Seventh Year, Lesson Two

James was glad to be back in the classroom and stood in front of his desk as he waited for his seventh years so they could get started with their second lesson. "Welcome back, everyone take your seats," James directed his students and once they had all done so he raised his wand to close to classroom door. "Today we will be learning about Lethifolds and Dementors, you might want to take notes as this will be included on your N.E.W.T exam," James paused to give his students the chance to take out what they needed to start taking notes and once they had settled down again he resumed.

"Lethifolds and Dementors are quite similar and are repelled in the same way, however Lethifolds are a highly dangerous and carnivorous creature, does anyone know what lethifold are commonly known as?" James asked and waited for a student to volunteer the answer. "Correct, moving on. The black cloak of the lethifold gets thicker after digesting a human, as fun as that thought is does anyone know how a lethifold would attack a human?" James nodded when a student gave him the correct answer. It was no doubt something that would sit with some of his students as it had with him when he was a student.

"Moving on to Dementors which you might be more familiar with, they don't feed on bodies but rather happiness and can consume souls, once upon a time the dementor's kiss was an act used as a punishment of last resort for the worst of the worst criminals, though thankfully that is no longer in use as I'm sure you'll agree it is a fate worst than death," James let that last point sink in before he continued. "As mentioned earlier dementors and lethifold can be repelled in the same way, this is through the use of the patronus charm which you will be learning in due time," James waved his wand in the direction of the blackboard and his initial notes vanished and were replaced with the homework assignment. "Your homework is simply an essay on both dementors and lethifolds and is due before our next lesson, class dismissed,"

Assignment: RP the lesson. The first students to answer the questions will receive extra credit, feel free to complete the homework also for extra credit.

Emery headed into the Defence Against the Dark Arts in a bit of a grumpy mood, he hoped this lesson wouldn't be too complicated. He took his seat, grabbing parchment and quill to take notes. The professor told them they would learn about Lethifolds and Dementors and helpfully added that it would be on the NEWTs. Emery noted down that the two creatures were similar and repelled in the same way, but that Lethifolds were dangerous and carnivorous. Emery had heard of them before and he hesitantly raised his hand. "The Living Shroud." He said, glad to see his answer was correct. The talk about them digesting a human was a little gross, but Emery noted it down anyway. Then they moved onto Dementors, which Emery had heard more about. He still took some notes, sure it would be good to revise this information before the exams. He added information on the Patronus charm too, interested to learn they'd learn that spell. He noted down the homework, then packed up his things to leave as the professor dismissed them.

Emmanuel was enjoying the challenge that his NEWT classes were immediately giving him. He loved getting to learn things which were interesting and challenging. None of his classes held a candle to history but they weren’t boring. He just had a preference. The teen was getting himself together for the day, he had plans to spend time with Kyon as much as possible while it wasstill early enough in the semester to really allow for it. He knew come closer to the end of the term he would need to spend more time on his studies and he didn’t want Kyon feeling abandoned. Emmanuel grabbed the last bits and pieces and then headed out of the room.

Emmanuel walked into the defence against the dark arts classroom and took his usual spot in the room. He glanced at the professor as the man was getting started. He pulled his notes towards him and began writing down what the professor was saying, trying his best to get down all that the professor was telling them about both the lethifold and the dementors. He knew they’d be doing the patronus charm in charms, and was eager after learning more about dementors to be able to do it. The lesson was then wrapped up and he packed up his things and headed out of the room, intending to do the homework.

It was heading deeper into the term, and Chaos Zhefarovich the Second was looking forward to graduating so that he could do something with his life. Something more meaningful. Going to school, doing essays, none of it seemed to be worth much of anything. Chaos doubted that this would end up high up on the list of things needed for a resume for work. The Gryffindor prefect gathered up what he needed to head to class, and knew that at this time, he would end up a little early. So, he could take his time and just enjoy the walk. He did not need to saunter too much. He eventually entered the classroom, and settled in. He was on time, and right on time too. Punctuality was part of his attributes.

Chaos walked into the classroom with his usual air of confidence, taking a seat at the back once again. As Professor Cade began the lesson, Chaos pulled out his parchment and quill, although he did so with a casual air, as if the effort were more to keep up appearances than out of genuine interest. When Professor Cade posed the question about the common name for Lethifolds, Chaos didn’t bother to raise his hand. He already knew the answer but saw little point in showing off. As the lesson progressed and Professor Cade described the grisly method of a Lethifold’s attack, Chaos leaned back in his chair, twirling his quill between his fingers.
"Lovely bedtime story, Professor," he muttered under his breath, loud enough for a few students nearby to hear but not enough to attract direct attention from Cade.

When the topic shifted to Dementors, Chaos’s interest piqued slightly, though he still wore a mask of indifference.
"A fate worse than death, huh?" he echoed thoughtfully. "I’d say there are quite a few who deserved that kiss back in the day." His comment was directed more to himself but spoken aloud nonetheless, but it was likely heard from others. As the lesson drew to a close and Professor Cade assigned the essay, Chaos made a face. Nonetheless, he scribbled down the assignment in his notebook. At least this lesson had some useful information.

Lennox had reviewed some nonverbal magic which was both beneficial to this class but also for Transfiguration. She was determined to get the best NEWT grades this year which meant revision was just a thing she had to suck up and complete. The Slytherin girl was balancing everything better this year though, which was her main goal going into it. She entered the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom, taking her seat.

The professor did not waste much time, but the time wasted was still obvious as he began a lecture. The lecture wasn't even about nonverbal magic but instead about Lethifolds and Dementors. That made no sense and Lennox was not shy to roll her eyes as she dug into her bag to take out her note taking items. She held her big and obnoxious pink fluffy quill as she began to take notes.

Lennox raised her hand to be called on to answer the question but was not called on. She was bitter but she did hear a rather amusing comment from the Gryffindor boy near her. She giggled under her breath, giving him a glance. At least that softened the blow of not being able answer the question. The lesson continued, rather uneventful. Lennox finished up her notes, not hesitant to rush out of the classroom when they were dismissed.
