SECOND LESSON
'' Goodmorning everyone.'' Noel than greeted his students with an friendly smile. ''You may recall that I told you to bring your wands with you to class this week,'' Noel started once everyone was seated. '' We will be practicing our first jinx this week. Before we start, I want to remind everyone that there will be no fooling around while your wands are drawn. Ignore that rule and you will find yourself dusting off old books in the library for the entire semester. Good, now that that's out of the way, we can begin! I need a volunteer for a demonstration.'' He smiled as a few hands went up in the air. ''I'll be casting a jinx on you.'' As he thought, some lowered their hands while others seemed more excited. '' You are in good hands. I'll reverse it afterwards, so there is nothing to worry about.'' He picked one of the students who still had their hands raised and called them forward. ''If you could stand facing the class, please, thank you.'' He rolled up his sleeves and continued. ''The Jelly-Legs Jinx does what you would expect it to do. It causes your target's legs to wobble like jelly.'' With a reassuring smile aimed at the student volunteer, Noel raised his wand, waved it and said the incantation. ''Locomotor Wibbly!'' He watched as the volunteer found themselves fighting to keep their balance. Once the class had a moment to take in the effects of the jinx, Noel lifted his wand again to cast the counter-charm. ''Thank you. Five extra points for your house,'' he said, sending the student back to their seat. ''There will be similar opportunities during the semester, so now would be the time to tell me whether you would be comfortable with volunteering or not. Come see me after class if you want to talk about it.''

Prank-jinxes like the Jelly-Legs Jinx and others were almost inevitable at a magic school. Some in this class would likely practice them on others outside of this classroom, so he thought it best to have them practice these kinds of spells in a safe environment instead. Though it would be fun to have a student dust off an entire section of the library. They would without a doubt learn their lesson after two dozen or so books. ''For the rest of the time, I want you to pair up with someone else and practice the Jelly-Legs Jinx. Again, the incantation is Locomotor Wibbly.'' Noel then shared the counter-charm with them so that they could reverse the jinx themselves. ''You may also practice Stupefy and Protego once you've done the Jelly-Legs Jinx a couple of times. Good luck.'' He than walked around the classroom to make sure everything was going safe.

- Roleplay the lesson.
- If you choose to roleplay with each other be sure to include tags! You can also tag @Professor Noel Waldgrave if you like some interaction. I try my best to respond.
- Extra credit to the first student who volunteers for the demonstration!

Eoghan was actually having more fun with his lessons now that he'd decided to put down all the books and focus on the classes as they came. Trying to cram in all the knowledge that he thought would be helpful in the future was doing more harm than good because it meant he had very little balance in his life, but now that he was concentrating on the present it was easier to feel more engaged. Taking his usual seat in Defence Against the Dark Arts, Eoghan was glad to see there were no babies in this lesson. He still thought it was ridiculous that Charms of all subjects had an actual real baby in it while the students were flinging their wands around. Perhaps Professor Waldgrave should have had a word with Professor Grayveson.

When the professor asked for a volunteer, Eoghan raised his hand before he realised what he was volunteering for. He knew that he wanted to be the duelling champion for his year group now that he was old enough to participate, and he'd figured that learning what it felt like to be hit with a jinx would mean he was better prepared for the tournament, however he didn't realise until he stood up that it meant be hit with the jinx in front of everyone. With a nervous glance to his classmates, Eoghan moved to the front of the class gingerly and hoped that the professor wouldn't wait around too long to use the counter-charm. The Ravenclaw hadn't said a word by the time he found himself wobbling around on his knees, needing to use the students desk closest to him to steady himself so that he wouldn't embarrass himself further by dropping to the floor. As much as Eoghan wanted to do well in his lessons the duelling tournament he didn't want to lose his dignity in the process if he could help it. His legs were shaking uncontrollably underneath him by the time the professor finally removed the jinx, a small layer of sweat forming on his brow and he quickly and silently returned to his seat, trying to ignore the pairs of eyes on him.

As the class continued on, Eoghan took a moment to gather himself before finding someone to pair up with and practising the other jinxes. He was happy enough for his partner to use the jelly leg jinx on him again now that he knew what it felt like, and as awkward as he felt, he was glad he was more prepared for the SDA tournament now.

Lilith knew they'd be practicing spells today, so when she walked into the classroom she thought she had an idea of what it would look like. Sitting next to Eoghan had been a given and she listened comfortably to the Professor explaining everything and then asking for volunteers, Lilith opted out for now but was horrified to find Eoghan next to her volunteering. As the boy made his way to the front of the class her horror grew and she just found herself watching. Lilith felt a feeling of pride wash over her when he held through the jinx's effects, good very good.

"You okay?" She whispered to him as he sat back down, giving a thorough once over, just to make sure the jinx was out of his system. As they were told to pair up the Ravenclaw did so effortlessly and let her partner try the jinx on her first, she wanted to know how it felt and in all honestly she thought it looked far worse than it felt. It felt kind of like if you were to stand in a car driving through the center of Helsinki, which had brickstone roads but far more intense. As the counter-charm was performed Lilith was more than glad to be on steady footing as she then took it to herself to practice said spell. Overall it had been a good lesson in her opinion as she left the room, excited for the prospect of possibly using these charms in the dueling tournament she was planning on taking part in.

Honestly, Eli was tired, of a lot of things, but just class, but being tired of class was definitely up there on the things he was tired about. Seeing as this was a class with Hufflepuff, he looked for Jonah as he sat down, frowning when his brother chose not to sit with him. That was becoming a frequent occurrence. He was going to have to check in with Eury to see what he was like in classes that Eli wasn't in. He hoped it was just a problem with him specifically, but something told him that probably wasn't the case, which was a little annoying, but it was one of the things he'd come to understand about his brother that he didn't necessarily know how to fix. They'd fallen away from each other somewhere along the way and he didn't know where, or how to even start to fix it. Mostly he just hoped that at some point he figured it out so he wouldn't have to keep speculating and trying to figure out his own mess. He so hated dealing with a mess.

This obsession with casting spells on his classmates was also grating on him. Mostly because it always seemed to be Jonah caught up in it, so when Eoghan volunteered instead, he sighed a slight relief, but also glared at the Professor because how can a child of twelve or thirteen consent to anything like this. Shouldn't Eoghan's parents be told? Or given some kind of a form they needed to fill out? If he needed parental permission to leave the school for the weekend, shouldn't he bloody well need permission for someone to cast a spell on him in a demonstration? It must be especially hard for people of a non-magical background. This would never fly in Mohoutokoro, they don't cast spells on each other, because there's no need to demonstrate what it's like when one hits you. Seeing it should have been enough and he bet it wouldn't have been the same if he'd turned around and cast one on the professor. When they were told to pair up, he didn't care about Jonah's feelings on the matter, stealing him away to practice with him. He opened his partnership to Eury too, if she decided she wanted to join.

Prim entered the defence against the dark arts classroom with her wand clutched tightly in one hand, a mix of nervousness and curiosity swirling in her chest. She nodded politely at Professor Waldgrave’s friendly greeting and slid into her usual seat. As he explained the day's activity, Prim watched a few brave hands shoot up when he asked for a volunteer. Brave or a little silly, she wasn't sure. Sam had always warned against allowing herself to be placed under any kind of spell, but then, he was an Auror, so he'd know. Hazel was a little less against the idea but Prim tried to be smart about things, and she didn't think being hit with a jinx on purpose was part of that smart ideal. She could feel her heart race at the idea of standing in front of the entire class and being the test subject for the Jelly-Legs Jinx. Eoghan volunteered, and she watched as the demonstration went on, she thought he was a smart person, but maybe he was just a Ravenclaw.

When it was time to pair up, Prim turned to the person next to her with a shy smile. "Want to practice together?" she asked, already mentally rehearsing the incantation. After a few wobbly attempts with her partner, she finally managed to cast the jinx successfully. Watching her partner try to regain their balance made her laugh lightly, but she was quick to follow up with the counter-charm. She found herself getting the hang of it after a few tries, even experimenting with Stupefy and Protego by the end of class. Prim left the lesson feeling a little more confident in her abilities and more appreciative of the practical side of the subject.

Jonah snuck into class, eyes downcast as he sat quietly in the far corner where he was sure no one would speak to him. In the previous lesson, they were told that they were going to be learning jinxes this year. It made his stomach churn just to think about it. When the professor mentioned a volunteer, Jonah hesitated only for a second as he remembered the stunning spell from last year. He knew he needed a boost to his grades. So he raised his hand. He wasn't chosen, though, which was a relief. He didn't bother watching the demonstration, staring at his desk instead until he was sure that the demonstration was over. After the demonstration, Jonah glanced down at his wand, unsure of how to proceed. Noel’s next instruction was clear—pair up and practice the jinx. He didn't want to. But of course, Elijah grabbed him to practice with. Jonah didn't bother saying anything, resigned. He thought he almost succeeded in casting the spell once.

Vikram was content. He was just a very chill guy, happy with life, happy with his routine, his schedule. He did want to try to make some more friends, though. He decided to try and start in classes, be a little more social. He packed his bag and headed to class, and with goals in mind, he sat down with someone new. He smiled at @Primrose Kaster. When she turned to ask him to pair up, he counted it as good luck. "Absolutely," He told her with an easy smile. "I'm Vikram. Primrose, yes?" He questioned. He was sure that was her name but he wanted to double check. Their practice went well- he got a few good spells in himself. All in all, he was very satisifed with how class went. He grabbed his bag and walked out again, reviewing the lesson in his head as he left.

Eurydice sat at her desk, her wand resting on her palm as she listened idly to Professor Walgdrave. Her opinion of the man had not gotten any better, but it wasn't like she had much of an option when it came to Defense professors. She found the idea of learning practical jinxes intriguing, though the thought of casting at classmates to learn them at first wasn't exactly appealing. She still didn't understand why they weren't using training dummies similar to dueling, but could not deny that learning counterspells were important. When Noel asked for a volunteer, Eurydice’s hand tightened around her wand, watching as a few eager hands shot up and swallowed when she noticed Jonah's. She did not like watching their classmate struggle to not fall with that jinx. Why they weren't taught the counter for it was beyond her unless Finite would work. No spell was completely harmless, so it was important to know the proper counter-spell. When it was time to pair up, Eurydice found herself scanning the room for a partner. She hadn't particularly made many friends, and most students tended to give her a wide berth. Giving up on finding a partner, she joined up with Eli and Jonah, and if the professor had any problems with that then he could find her a partner.
