Delilah hadn't decided what hurt worse. The gash on her leg or her pride, not that she had a big one to start with, but there was an ache in her chest that wouldn't go away. It would have been one thing if it had been a private lesson or even if everyone had been practicing at once, but no. All eyes had been on her as they all went one at a time, and she had royally screwed up. Everyone knows that splinching is a possibility but no one ever thinks it will happen to them. So maybe it did make some tragically poetic sense that it would happen to her. For a moment she considered snapping her wand. It wasn't like it had ever done her any good. Maybe then she could start fresh. But she could hear her father's voice saying something about a bad craftsman blaming his tools. Just like that her brief moment of anger deflated and Delilah was back to wallowing in her sadness once more.
She spared a glance at her leg. Even with it bandaged up it was hard to look at, mostly because it was a giant reminder of her mistake. Delilah could still see some of the bloody bandages and it made her head swim. She would be fine. It had been a deep cut but nothing that couldn't be healed with a few charms and time. She would be limping for a few weeks but nothing permanent but the ugly scar it was likely going to leave behind. Shutting her eyes tight she leaned back in the bed she had been set up in and willed herself to fall asleep until she could get out of here. Not that it would be much better, having to face everyone, but at least she could distract herself which was what she desperately needed now.
