Penelope was a little disappointed in herself. Once again, she was at a dance without a date. Not just without a date, without even trying to get a date. She had once again chickened out of asking Emmanuel, even though she really wanted to. It was starting to get a bit embarrassing. Penelope saw plenty of girls her age move to the dance floor with their partners, and here she stood again, on the sidelines. She wondered if Daria had managed to ask Emmanuel instead, as she was aware the Ravenclaw liked him too. She hoped not. Penny poured herself a drink and watched the dancing glumly.

Santiago was wary of going to the ball again and hoped he wouldn't run into June or Eloise again. He had enough of their judgement last year and if he was lucky they'd get a life and leave him alone. To no one's surprise he didn't have a date. He had a tendency to drive everyone away and that included girls, even the annoying ones. With a sigh he kept to the edge of the crowd and looked at the decorations before finding himself at the snack table. He stumbled a little when he saw Holden's sister getting a drink. For a moment he was stunned and wasn't sure if he should say anything. But they had met during the speed thing last year so it wasn't totally weird, right? Santiago cleared his throat as he approached and poured himself a drink too. "Hey." he said and tried to sound causal. "Kind of lame right?"
