With a series of circumstances new to HNZ and some discussion with Cecily, Alicia, Elite members of the board, and professors I’m pleased to be able to announce that HNZ is now going to be using a new classroom policy.

The Policy (The What)

I will try to keep the explanation of this policy very brief. It revolves around the idea that nobody’s character will fail a class without wanting them to. Therefore, you can post in no lessons and do no exams and your character will pass with a grade of an ‘A’ (which is ‘acceptable’ on the Wizarding grading systems). A grade of 'A' in all classes, however, is not enough for your character to achieve a job other than Hogwarts staff (not professor) or being a shopkeeper. So lessons will still be needed for your character to have a good occupation.
Classes will still be posted regularly, and it is still highly recommended you do them. They can be more than enjoyable to role play in and posting in them can only help your character and your experience on the site. By posting in lessons and doing exams you will earn house points for your house and will also help your character’s final grade in courses at the end of the semester.
Once a semester ends, professors will look over who did what classes and post a list of final grades. The list of grades will only state people who have achieved a mark other than an A. Some characters may fail a class or a year if their roleplayer has requested it for them.

House Points

House Points will continue to be posted in the House Points topic by professors after every lesson. However, it will not necessarily state which student earned how many points.
In the past it might say:
Katalina Vanderhol O=8
Kiera Kingsley O=8

Lemina Troque O=9
But now it will simply say:
Gryffindor – 16
Hufflepuff – 9
Then those will be added to house totals.

This also means that individual awards for top points earner by house, year, or overall for the whole school will cease. In place of these awards we hope to have a “Headmistress’ list” which would be similar to ‘Dean’s List’ and be for students that achieved straight Os in the year.

The Why

This policy has been brought about for a number of reasons, as mentioned previously, the chief of these being that with more and more members calculating marks etc. is becoming a very tedious task. What had worked for a site of three hundred members is not working as smoothly for one of one-thousand and three hundred.
There is also the obvious that our main Administrator is absent at the moment so we’re running things as best we can with what we have. The goal of this policy is not to take away from the purpose, goal, or fun of this site, but rather to make things easier on all parties on all sides of things and hopefully help to improve the site.

We hope, that by placing this policy into effect more members will join our site, we will continue to be a unique Harry Potter role playing site, we will be able to maintain the member base we have and have more free time on the part of the Administrators to implement new and exciting plots, school, and site-wide events.

Thank you for reading this and for your understanding, if you have any questions or concerns feel free to contact myself,

A note on inactivity: This policy does not allow for characters to remain inactive then be pushed through their years at Hogwarts. After two months (or more) of unexplained inactivity (nobody has been contacted about it and there is no absence thread) your account will be placed in the 'inactive' user group. :)

Archived

This topic can no longer be considered 'news' but should rather be called 'olds'. It has thusly been archived.
If you have any questions or concerns involving this [former] news, please contact an administrator and keep looking for newer 'news' in the News and Updates forum.

Thank you,
~The HNZ Admin Team
