Victoire was waist deep in books constantly right now, and she knew that this was only get worse and worse as she got ready for the OWLs, but between that and her duties as a prefect the girl had realised that she had been able to organise and go on a first tentative date with Jean, they hadn't told anyone about it, she had kept it to herself as she knew he was too, it was still too early to know what they were or what any of it meant, and she didn't want to have to deal with whatever then was brought with it. But she was spending all of her spare time studying and spending a lot of time within the Gryffindor tower, given the current curfew that was imposed upon all Gryffindors and she was sure that it would be imposed for a little bit longer, she didn't imagined that it was just going to be removed in a second, they were definitely stuck there for a lot longer she was sure, the teen girl was sure that she was going to have to deal with it, and it helped her studies but she struggled with it, because she liked being able to get fresh air.

The teen was therefore using some of her freedom to just be outside and take in the fresh air of whatever day this was, and which was why she was currently sat outside in the courtyard with a book in front of her as she just read through it, a slightly wintery wind making the lose strands of her blonde hair dance slightly, and caused the odd shiver to wrack her body, though she was wearing two layers already, the teen had expected it to be quite this cold, however she was enjoying it. The gryffindor prefect smiled happily to herself as she turned the page in the book, these were perhaps not ideal conditions but she was feeling pretty good, she was smiling happily to herself as she just continued reading, finding it somewhat lovely to just be able to spend a little bit of time studying like this but knowing that this was the most relaxed she'd been in a while, especially while studying, perhaps keeping them all stuck in there after a much earlier time at this time of year wasn't the best thing, but Victoire wasn't about to argue with authority, and since she was content there wasn't much else she was about to do.

Alexander Carter hadn't gone out much lately, ever since the fiasco that he had caused between himself and Victoire at the Yule Ball he hadn't wanted to leave the common room in case he ran into her and caused an awkward encounter between the two of them. It was bound to happen eventually, he had effectively ruined any chance that he had of the two of them having some sort of relationship together since he had completely misinterpreted her feelings towards the two of them being together. It was a shame, because Alex thought that she was a really wonderful person and anyone would be lucky to have her in their lives. She was so kind hearted, and he really appreciated the way in which she helped him out in revising everything that he ought to know and that his parents had never ended up teaching him previously.

Today, Alex had decided that he was going to risk it and go outside and just hope really badly that he wouldn't end up going anywhere near her. He sighed as he walked outside and one of the first things that he was greeted by was her beautiful face. He couldn't understand why the one place he had wanted to go she was there, maybe he just had really bad luck. That would make a lot of sense, really, and it would explain what had happened between them at the yule ball and how he had managed to ruin everything. He wasn't sure if he wanted to approach her, so he just sat down away from her and hoped that she wouldn't notice him.

Victoire had been so enthralled in her book she'd barely noticed someone else sitting in the courtyard, it was only when she'd finished her chapter that the girl had looked up and in the other side of the courtyard she spotted Alex, and while this wasn't the best sight, given her talk with Jean, and what they were trying, she was feeling like maybe she could try to talk to him, repair the damage done to their relationship because she liked Alex, but she didn't know how to talk him following what happened. The girl found herself just staring forward at him, she had helped him with his studies previously and felt a little bad she hadn't been there to help him during this semester, though given her OWLs, it would be more tricky for her to do such a thing but she felt bad for not even trying, Victoire knew that her own feelings and pride had somewhat hindered her ability to forgive him quickly but it had just been so annoying, she didn't want anything more than friendship with him.

With a determined nature, the Gryffindor got to her feet and after packing up her books walked over to where he was sitting and then sat down next to him clearing her throat a little to get his attention, "Hey," she muttered, there was a lingering nervousness in her voice and she brushed some of the blonde strands from her face as she faced him, her eyes searching him to see if anything had changed in his feelings towards her, "Look, I'm sorry about how I acted," she started wishing she could just speak in French with this, how much easier it would be for her, "I mean, I still don't feel that way about you, but I miss my friend," she shrugged a little though there was a seriousness in her words, she did miss him, "Any way we could just go back to that?" Victoire knew it would be difficult if he still had feelings for her, but hopefully they'd be able to just go back to being friends and ignore how he felt that might be easier, Victoire was hoping that this would be something that Alex did want.

Alex had been hoping that Victoire wouldn't notice him, but any chance of that went away pretty quickly because she spotted him almost straight away. He sighed deeply, and hoped with all of his heart that Victoire would stay where she was across the courtyard and just wouldn't bother with him at all. He was pretty hurt, still, and very ashamed in himself after what he had done. He hadn't meant for things to go as badly as they had, and he wished that she had felt the same as he did. But, it couldn't be helped, and it probably wouldn't be able to be helped. Alex loved her, and he accepted that, it was just a shame that she didn't feel the same about him.

Alex groaned silently as she walked over to him. When she posed her questions to him, he didn't know how he was supposed to respond. Could they go back to friends after what he had done? If she ended up with somebody else, there was absolutely no way that he would be able to contain his jealousy. He wouldn't be able to bare to see her with anyone else, and it would hurt him to no end. Could he deal with that? He wasn't sure that he would be able to. Alex didn't know what to say, but he did miss her. Maybe if just waited and became the friend that she needed, the shoulder to cry on, and the person that she could confide in.. maybe that would be enough to win her over one day in the future. He couldn't be sure, but he knew that he missed her, and he loved her.

Alex had a surprise for her, and he didn't think that she would ever see this coming. Since he had met her in Bleak Street that day and he had walked her home, he had been practicing. He hadn't known if he would ever be able to master it, but he had been wanting to try for her. In what could possibly be the worst attempt at french in the world, Alex said, "I do miss you.." Alex started, "But my feelings for you won't change.. I can't make any promises, but, I'd like to be friends.. if you can deal with that.." Alex said, well aware that he messed up a lot of that sentence. He sighed to himself, deeply, and just looked at her with a weak smile on his face. He didn't know what he was going to do.

The gryffindor didn't know what she was expecting when she down next to Alex, she didn't what to expect with him, she didn't feel the same way about him as he felt for her, and it was just always going to cause trouble for them both, she didn't know how easy it would be for him to move past it, she didn't think that he could and she didn't know how to deal with it, her frustration borne out of a desire to just have a few friends and to not have love or feelings be a part of it, things with herself had always been made complicated with Jean because of that, but she didn't want that here, and it was, only that she didn't care for him in the same way that he cared for her, and it was always going to be an elephant in the room for them, it would've been simpler if she just hadn't known about it, if he had sat with his feelings in silence, but she couldn't help but know that that ship had sailed and she just had to deal with this here and now, to deal with exactly what was in front of her and just try to deal with that.

The girl looked at him as she had made her point clear, they'd been friends, and surely they could go back to that, even if things were incredibly different now, even if nothing was actually ever going to be the same, but she had a hope that they could at least pretend, or act as if it hadn't really happened, she let the silence following her words surround them both, the magnitude of this cluster of issues an almost present force upon them both, she couldn't even tell him about Jean, about how they were testing the water of whatever they were. She looked at him as he began to speak, it took her a moment to realise that he was speaking french, it was so naturally easy for her to understand it, that her mind had taken a moment to realise that it was in fact french he was speaking to her. She looked at him with a look of surprise and a small smile on her face, "I want to be friends," she replied in english, unsure about what he would understand if she spoke french, she thought it was pretty neat of him to have learned a little bit of french, or how much French he had learned, so that it was an impressive thing, "You learned a little french?" she asked him, clearly impressed by it, "Your accent isn't half bad either," she spoke slowly in french to him, wondering if he would understand it, but making herself purposely slow so he might be able to understand.
