Open Lost Hearts Find A Home

As much as Samuel would have liked to decline the invitation to Kyle's wedding, his desire to attend and see the aesthetic of the event himself overcame everything else, leading him to arrive despite his disdain, in a state of apprehension over the day ahead. The whole ordeal of weddings was one Samuel detested, the few weddings he had attended years prior forcing him to think of them as pointless, if not entirely stupid for anyone other than the couple getting married. A couple forcing what they deemed a genuine display of love in the faces of guests made to cater to the overt attention seeking of it all just simply did not appeal to him. But nevertheless he was trying to force his apprehension down, knowing that this would be the opportunity for him to judge Kyle's taste in parties in a way he never had before, and using this to convince himself attending the wedding was worth the fuss.
The venue alone was asking to be judged and Samuel was pleased to revere at the ridiculous house that masqueraded as a 'castle'. At best and with generous wording it could be described as a manor, though Sam wouldn't expect New Zealand in it's effort to seem a better country than it truly was to label the house accurately. The wedding ceremony was cheesy but tolerable, only for the fact Samuel was pleased Kyle did have a chance to marry someone that made him happy, with the tackiness of weddings in general aside. By the time the ceremony was over and everyone was guided into the ballroom Samuel was craving a drink, and managed to find a type of wine that wasn't entirely cheap. With the glass in hand he intended to do no more than stand by his brother's side and chat idly until it was deemed appropriate to leave, but when Jon left him to stand alone his plans were foiled. Being alone at a wedding was the worst possible thing that could happen to him, bringing an opportunity for someone he did not know or want to know to speak to him, and as he continued to sip from his wine he hoped he did not seem approachable enough for this to happen. Really he wanted to stay alone until the first group of guests chose to leave so he did not seem too eager to get out of there.

The ceremony had been a little overwhelming, but also wonderful. It was a good thing he could hold onto Kyle's hand, it felt like it grounded him. He was surprised how many of his colleagues had come, but he was very happy about it too. After Amy congratulated him, He spotted Cyndi in the line of well-wishers. It was nice to see her, as he had always thought it would be nice to be closer to the woman. They were some of the few professors with children at school, and she was the only one who understood how he felt during Quidditch games. Then Landon approached, giving them a very thoughtful gift which Matt accepted. "Thank you so much, Landon. I'm going to make smoothies for the girls with this." He said, grinning. Jon congratulated them as well, and Matt gave him a wide grin too. So many people wanted to congratulate them, it was all a bit much for Matt. He had never enjoyed being the center of attention that much, but he did truly appreciate everyone that was here. He couldn't stop grinning as he looked around, every time noticing more people he was glad to see on this special day.

Monty had been somewhat hesitant to accept his invite to Matt and Kyle's wedding - not because he didn't want to offer his friend and colleague his congratulations, but because the only other wedding he had ever attended was one of his most painful childhood memories, and he was concerned that he might feel anxious during the ceremony. But he could not avoid weddings forever; and besides, Matt was a friend. Monty wanted to be there on his special day.

But when he arrived at the venue - a beautifully landscaped castle - he could not summon the courage to go inside. He sat out on the steps, feeling like the word's most terrible friend, until somebody came out and he discovered that the guests had moved into the ballroom. He'd missed the entire ceremony. The thought of going straight home, thereby sparing himself the humiliation of looking as if he'd arrived late, was awfully appealing; but he'd come this far, and he didn't know what he was going to do with the newlyweds' present if he didn't give it to them. Slipping in through a side-door, Monty found a space near the wall and stood around awkwardly by himself, waiting for an opportunity to approach. He recognised many of the guests - a fact that did very little to comfort him. He did not so much like the man he became when he left the security of the school, and with his mounting worries he did not need the additional concern of worrying about the students seeing him for who he really was. It was a pity he could not relax, for the day was such a happy one for Matt and Kyle, and the other guests appeared mostly to be having a wonderful time. But in spite of it all, Monty did feel a certain warmth in his chest as he watched the men from afar. Though the evening for Monty had been stressful, there was something innately joyous in witnessing a moment that would be treasured in somebody else's mind for the rest of their life. That in itself made being there worthwhile.
