I'm new...and I have a mission.

If there was a Harry Potter convention in Australia, would you attend?

Hello all, my name is Tree ^_^

I'm...*intake of breath* I'm an Aussie...

XD

And I've never been to this site before. My purpose for coming here is that I am in the early stages of "fandom research" to gauge interest for a Harry Potter convention this side of the equator.

I currently volunteer for another successful but small-scale convention as a Junior Executive board member, but this is outside the HP fandom. Naturally, as a lover of cons, I wanted to see something similar in our neck of the woods. So I'm scouting out the fandom of NZ and AU to see how many of us there are, and who would be interested in a hotel-based con. Much like Leakycon but on a smaller scale.

Such an event is probably well over a year away.

I'm also looking for people who are not only interested in an event, but potentially willing to come on as board members and bring their ideas to the table.

Thoughts?

Hey there Tree. :)
The Kiwis in the site will be very disappointed that you're an Aussie. They might have to shun your poll and everything. :p

I voted "no" and "maybe" due to living in Canada, myself - but I hope you get some helpful information out of our community and consider sticking around.

Being an Aussie myself, I naturally voted Yes. An Australian Convention for Harry Potter would be, hopefully very enjoyable. I'm always on the look out for such things. I hope you find what you are hoping to find.

If you ever need help with anything, feel free to contact me here, or I can give you my email address. :)

Well, I'm thinking if it did go ahead, it would be like a Harry Potter "summer camp". Though in the October break, most likely- as that's a break that coincides with highschool and Uni students. I've organised both cons and summer camp, but summer camps can be smaller and less expensive to run.

Hello tree.
Welcome back to hnz. As an Aussie myself I would be interested in a Harry petter convention however I would be curious as to where it would be as living on the west cost there is never anything this side. Also I have found the October holidays to be just when my uni exams are coming up. Wouldn't January be a better time if wanting to fit in with people's school and uni.
I voted yes and maybe due to the time and location that may make it hard to attend but otherwise I would be interested. As if it was local then I would still most likely attend if time was inconvenient. And if if was not local then if time was good I may fly in to attend.

Unfortunately the other convention I work for happens in January. It used to be December, but alas. January would be the perfect date.

Time would be very much open, not necessarily October. It would be based on the East Coast, most likely Sydney as that's where the Australian Quidditch Association is based.

Harry Potter Fans Australia, as we are trying to assess how many people there are who would be interested.

:)

I'll probably get shunned by the other kiwis, but if i had the money I would go.
I won a trip to sydeny last year, actually. Lucky for me, it landed in the timeframe of the harry potter Exhibition at the Powerhouse museum...

And January would be a good time, as I return to school in February anyway. The only trouble for me is money and transport...

So my final vote; Make it in NZ!! :p

Well, seeing as I live in Scotland, I voted 'no'. However, I think it's a very good idea! :3 You should definitely try and go through with it!
