But why would she be on the quidditch pitch? She doesn't play...

...unless I bought her broom beforehand? I guess she could be practicing on it.

I don't have to be on the pitch, I could be walking towards it and my broom says "Screw you, dude," and does whatever. Others could be within the vicinity of hearing it crash into the forest and seeing Ford dumbfounded, possibly.
