Althea is an extremely active RP, with a plethora of new concepts you won't find anywhere else; things from numerous new Pokedex functions - player-created quests, long distance trading, and even guild functionality - to user created moves, immense customization, and more. Whether you want to be a trainer or step into the shoes of one of the hundreds of available Pokemon, there's always something to do, something to see, and someone to punch in the face.
Customization is the name of the game; nearly every aspect of your sojourn can be personalized in a hundred different ways. Rather than embracing the "Gotta catch 'em all!" mentality, we prefer to give worth to each individual Pokemon - your partners in battle can be altered in every way to fit your strategies. Stats are present to give a rough idea of what Pokemon are capable of, but it's up to you to decide where each experience point goes. Attack? Defense? Would you rather give your Charizard a little extra Defense so he can survive a Rock Throw, or should you focus on Agility and Special Attack so he can win before that Cacturne becomes a problem? Do you focus on stats, or do you ration out a few experience every so often to keep his moveset up to par? No two Pokemon, even of the same species and sex, will be identical - it is entirely up to you how your Pokemon advance.
Of course, that would all be pretty pointless without a worthwhile battle system, so we have that covered as well. Battles are freeform, but that doesn't quite translate to "lol pikachu yuse thunderbplt;" an energy gauge rations move usage without being restrictive. Moves can be unleashed in rapid sequence so long as you have the stamina, but tactics will defeat stat or movepool advantages - spamming Thunderbolt will get you nowhere against another player. You'll have to make use of every tool in your arsenal, be it your Pokemon's most effective moves or simple grapples and throws to interrupt an opponent in the midst of charging up for a Hyper Beam. Battle is fluid and dynamic; pitting two players against each other is perhaps the ultimate test of roleplaying and tactical skill.
Joining the ranks of the pantheon of AWESOME is bounty hunting. Players and NPCs can place marks on the head of a target and hire a bounty hunter to kidnap targets, blow things up, or acquaint Mr. Smith with the business end of a wall of fire. It's not legal, but it is a lucrative profession for those willing to take the risk. For all its advantages, bounty hunting has a single downside: as your codename becomes better known, more and more people may attempt to steal your title. No quest or bounty is necessarily safe - what looked like a simple hit may turn out to be infested with hostile trainers aiming for your head. Fame and skill is the only ticket to the most lucrative bounties, however, so it's up to you if you're willing to brave the dangers.
