It really shouldn't be phrases/sentences or obscure things, nouns seem to work well (proper or otherwise), adjectives, verbs, three word zingers, really familiar things like that.
If I were to post a hangman that said:
Harry Potter defeats Lord Voldemort in Deathly Hallows
Yes, it's true, and sure it suits the theme of 'Harry Potter' but at the same time it doesn't seem the type of thing to use in hangman.
