Bruin strode out onto the Quidditch pitch with his Scarlet Streak in hand, already dressed in the rest of his gear. It was about half an hour before the rest of last year's returning players had been asked to arrive and Bruin marveled at the rich greens of the turf and the way the hoops and stands almost sparkled in the early morning sun. Groundskeeper Willie had done a marvelous job preparing the pitch for the year and Bruin was filled with optimism. This was going to be the year that the houses actually competed for the Quidditch Cup, the one trophy left in the Trophy Room that Bruin cared about having his name connected to.
Bruin opened up the shed where the Quidditch Set he had bought for the team was stored and removed the heavy trunk. The bludgers who had remained dormant within their restraints for the summer sprung to life and the trunk began shake and bounce as he carried the trunk back outside. "Whoa, settle down now in there. It won't be long now." He spoke reassuringly to the trunk, not thinking it odd in the slightest to be talking to the bludgers. He lowered the trunk onto the grass, popped the lid carefully to make sure everything was still properly secured and then closed it again, sitting down on the trunk as he waited for the others to arrive.
Bruin looked up at the stands, wondering if any of the first years would accept his invitation to come and watch them practice. He was certainly open to the idea of adding new talent to the roster, but knew that the nucleus of a great team was already in place. A big smile crossed his face as he thought about the possibilities for this year's team.
