Fourth Years, Lesson One

Gabrielle watched as the students took their seats. They were always a bit slow in getting started for the new year, though by fourth year the students were a little better about it. "Good morning, and welcome back! In case you have transferred in, or obtained convenient amnesia, or blocked out third year History of Magic entirely, my name is Gabrielle Moncrieffe and I am your History of Magic professor for one more year." She wished she could keep teaching all the way through to seventh year. She'd probably drink herself to death over it, but she liked her job. Most of the time. "Thank you for sticking with the class and I hope we'll enjoy this last year together. If you're continuing with History of Magic into OWLs and NEWTs, even though I won't be your teacher for it please feel free to reach out to me if you need a hand or have any questions about the materials. Or just want to do some slightly more interesting study that's not on the course." It also went for anyone not continuing, but she suspected those students probably wouldn't want or need to reach out to her anyway.

"Obviously, you all know how to behave yourselves by now so I don't need to remind you of the classroom rules." The fourth years were old enough not to be treated like kids. If they acted up, she'd talk to them, but otherwise she trusted them to be responsible. "What I might need to remind you of is what you've studied so far. There was a lot of lecturing, I know, you might have tuned it out over the holidays." Gabrielle smirked at the students, knowing some of them will have probably forgotten. "You know that for your OWLs you're going to have to go back over first through fifth year work, yes? So, little homework exercise for today..." she started, hearing a couple of groans and looking a little smug. "Yes, yes, it's terrible and you're all suffering so greatly. It's week one. You'll survive. Just write me a short essay on something you've learned in the last three years of History of Magic. Doesn't have to be long, as long as it's accurate. And in your own words, please. But you know that by now." It was in the rules, after all. Plagiarism was frowned upon, not just at Hogwarts, but everywhere. "If you have any questions, or desperately need any reminders, I'll be here for a little while, otherwise, go enjoy the rest of your day."

Homework
RP the lesson. Extra credit for a short 'essay' (though honestly 1 or 2 sentences is sufficient) about one thing you've learned in History of Magic so far. Be sure to check over the Classroom Policy!

Cassandra walked to her first lesson of History of Magic. She was looking around the places curiously as she walked into the room. Very nice, walking to the nearest desk she sat down and put down everything she had for the lesson. Waiting patiently for the lesson to start the Gryffindor pulled out her cherry flavoured lollipop and popped it into her mouth. What? Nobody had said you couldn't bring snacks to class.

As the Professor began speaking she listened, the Professor seemed much more fun than her Professor back at Hogwarts Scotland, the lady down there was so uptight and boring. Seriously Cassie was sure she was secretly a computer. This one though had some spunk to her. As the lesson concluded Cassandra walked up to the Professor to make a proper introduction. "Hello ma'am, just thought I'd pop by your desk to introduce myself properly. I'm Cassandra Cohen but feel free to call me Cassie," She gave a short smile. "I transferred here from Scotland for the year and I am so looking forward to the lessons."

Thomas had been his anxious self the last few days. He had always seemed to be anxious during the first few weeks of Hogwarts. He did miss home and his dad, but he couldn't really do anything about it if he was being honest. The Hufflepuff quickly packed up the things he needed before quickly making his way down to his history of magic classroom. He took a seat in his usual spot and took out the things he needed for the lesson, placing them on the desk in front of him.

Thomas moved his attention towards the professor as the professor started off with the lesson. He listened closely to what she had to say, not wanting to miss out on anything important. This lesson seemed more like a quick starting lesson, which Thomas didn't seem to mind. Thomas sighed quietly when they were told that there was homework, which he wasn't quite happy about.

The Hufflepuff quickly made a note of the homework, not wanting to forget about it anyway. It wasn't long before the lesson had come to an end and they were then dismissed. Thomas quickly packed up his things, said a quick but shy thanks and goodbye to the professor, before heading out of the classroom with his classmates.

Rosalind stepped into the classroom, looking forward to learning more about the history of magic. She took her seat, smiling over at Thomas, and then taking out her supplies. She paid attention but did a lot of doodling at the same time. She was a bit disappointed to hear there'd be homework already but managed not to groan out loud. The lesson came to a close and Rosalind packed away her things, noting down the essay but ultimately forgetting to do it.

Alana was pretty sure this would be her last year of history of magic. She couldn’t imagine herself continuing into her O.W.Ls with it, and while she didn’t yet know what she wanted to do with her life, she was fairly sure it didn’t involve history. She settled into her seat in history of magic and listened to Professor Moncrieffe introduce herself one last time for the benefit of anyone new, she did’t think there were any new faces in the room but she hadn’t paid that much attention. Alana didn’t take many notes for the first lesson as it was mostly a welcome back and introduction, along with a homework assignment, which she did make a note of to do later. Once the lesson was over Alana packed up and made her way out of the classroom.

Cyrus was cautiously excited for classes this semester. Fourth year meant that this would be his last year with a lot of his teachers, and he was looking forward to seeing what new things they would teach this semester. He hoped to stay on top of things a little better than he had last year, and he hoped it would help him prepare for next year, which he did feel anxious about.

The Ravenclaw made his way to the History of Magic classroom. He slid his bag off his shoulder as he took a seat at one of the desks, taking out a notebook and quill to take notes on the lesson. Professor Moncrieffe started the lesson and told them they could always ask questions, even when she wasn't their professor anymore. She also reminded them that for the OWLs next year they would have to revise all the things they had learned from first year to fifth. She gave them a small assignment to help with that, which Cyrus noted down. The lesson was over soon enough, and Cyrus grabbed his things after writing down the homework. He had some free time now, and he decided to head to the library to do the homework immediately.

Ravenclaw Fourth Year

We learned about Harry Potter and Lord Voldemort in the first year. We learned about Harry Potter's life and how he defeated Lord Voldemort. We also learned he became an auror as an adult.

Tanith was relieved, honestly. She'd been on edge all break, and nothing had happened. Now she was at school, with the twins, and things were going to be okay. Probably. She couldn't shake the feeling that something bad was going to happen, especially after what had happened last semester. She was embarrased, paranoid, and just feeling generally awful. She wasn't quite as bad as last semester, and she tried to focus on that. She took a little extra time to get ready that morning, hoping to at least look more put together than she was feeling.

At least this week was just introductions, which was generally the easiest lessons. Even the assignment that Professor Moncrieffe gave them wasn't too bad. She scribbled out something she probably wouldn't be able to repeat if asked, a general sum up of a few things from previous years, before turning in her work and hurrying out, not wanting to linger and test her luck.

Magne walked into the history of magic classroom and took his usual spot in the room. He looked up at the professor as the woman got started and was reminded that he’d be saying goodbye to this professor at he end of the semester. Something he knew he’d be sad about, he had always enjoy her lessons. He took his quill and took down the little he needed to on what the professor said - though it wasn’t a lot and then nodded as theyw ere given a little homework, he got started immediately, using the remainder of the lesson to do the rough first draft and then headed to the library to refine it properly.
