Over the past year and a half on this site, at the very least, the seasons have been an issue of great concern and great mention.
This being Hogwarts "New Zealand" but following the Northern Hemisphere's model of seasons (Winter being in December, January, February etc.) made absolutely no sense. Granted, we tried to write it off for Hogwarts by saying it was modelled after the one in Scotland and enchanted - but that made no sense for areas outside of the school.
So, after great discussions (okay, three pages worth) in the Elite Members area we've worked out that it's time to fix the seasons on HNZ.
So, how exactly will that work?
Well, at the end of "Summer" for Y6 it will become "Spring". This will be the strangest change, but it all gets more logical from here. Don't roleplay an awkward change in seasons or anything - just assume it has always been this way.
At the end of "Spring" (So in December) it will become Summer. The "Yule Ball" will still occur in December, right before a break, but it will be in the summer - just as Christmas is in the summer in New Zealand. There will then be the regular break after the ball (a week off between semesters for students) then it will be semester two.
The seasons will continue to go in order (opposite of what they are in the Northern Hemisphere) until we get to June - when it will be winter. June, July, and August are winter months in New Zealand. That means that the long break in between school years for students - will be winter breaks.
You may have noticed that the school year is still following a northern hemisphere model - going from September to June - that is correct, and despite the season change that will not change [we can rightly claim that that was modelled after Hogwarts in Scotland].
So in essence, all that is occurring is a season flip, and the toughest part for you all will just be role playing the change in season [from summer to spring] as if nothing is amiss.
On a even more awesome note, in the House Points board the word "Season:" is found followed by whatever season it should be on the board. As discussed, it will be changing from "Summer" to "Spring" on Monday - but what's even more Awesome is that as of Monday the word for whatever season it should be will link you to a page that will explain the weather in New Zealand for that season.
