First Years, Lesson Six

It was already the end of semester, and just about the end of year. Gabrielle was astounded at how time flew. It had been a pretty full on semester for the first years - they'd hit the ground running with a few different major parts of magical history that they ought to be aware of, and they'd all managed to make it through their first year without her actually throwing anyone in the lake. Yet. Perhaps her victory in the dueling tournament had served as enough of a warning not to get on her bad side. Still, she figured she ought to be at least somewhat nice to the students, and accordingly she'd put out a table with a few snacks for the students, including pitchers of juice and water and some sandwiches and fruit as well as chocolates and cupcakes. She at least had to sort of try and make the snack table somewhat healthy (although she knew the students would probably go for the sweets).

"Hello, everyone," Gabrielle greeted, nodding at the students as they entered. "Please feel free to take some snacks. I don't have chocolate frogs, though. I'm wanting you to rely on proper sources." She waited as they milled around before taking their seats, pulling out her notes. "I'm not going to give you a lecture today, this is a revision class. Let's just go over a couple of questions that you might see on your exam and then I'll leave you to it."

Gabrielle cleared her throat, looking at her notes. "Okay, so, easy one to start. Who did we start with, the most famous western wizard of all time, anyone?" She waited as someone answered, and nodded. "Good work. Let's make it a bit harder. How about...who were the three women named as witches by the Williams children in Salem?" She let the students go through the answers, and grinned. "Well done. If you had a bit of trouble remembering those, I'd say now's a good time to have a good look over your notes on the witch trials." She gave them a bit of a conspiratorial look. "The boy who lived, what was his name?" She gave a nod as that, too, was answered, and she put her notes back down as she sunk into her chair.

"Alright, I'll leave you all to it. Now's a good time to go over your notes, have some snacks, talk amongst yourselves. I would prefer you to talk about what you've learned this semester but if you must talk about other things I'd ask you to keep it down. Surely you don't want me knowing all about your holiday plans. You have to get through your exams first, remember. If you fail, you'll stay here over the break until you can pass." Gabrielle smirked as she sat back behind her desk, taking an apple slice from her plate and nodding to the students. She was clearly joking, and hoped the students realized that. She had no intention of spending her holiday here, having a plan in mind to take Miranda to actually visit her family in Bermuda - goodness knew that her own parents had been nagging her enough about it. "And I'll be right here for the class so if you have any questions or need any clarification at all, please come and ask me. I'm not going to be happy to answer your questions on the morning of the exam, so speak now or forever hold your peace." With that, she let the students amuse themselves for the rest of the class time. Hopefully they would be studying, but she knew she couldn't force them to. She did certainly appreciate the students who did, though.

Homework
RP the lesson. Bonus points to students answering questions (limit it to one per student, preferably people who haven't had a chance to answer questions yet!)

Snacks? Well that was always a good reason in his opinion to do anything honestly. He made an obvious beeline for the snack table and grabbed a cupcake and a handful of grapes to at least pretend to be slightly making healthy choices. Tinsel would be so proud. He ate quietly as professor Moncrieffe went through everything the salem witch trials and everything else. He took a couple of notes but was mostly preoccupied with the food honestly. Soon the lesson ended and he headed out, he was pretty sure he didn’t learn a thing that lesson.

Having a snack table seemed like a good idea and she grabbed some fruit off of it as she sat down. She took notes as the professor ran through the questions, mouthing the answers but not feeling confident to actually give one herself. Soon the class was over and she left, knowing she was going to have to focus for her exams.

It was time for the last lesson, which was no doubt going to be a revision of a sort. At least there were snacks, Miles wasting no time in grabbing some bits off the table to nibble on. You could never go wrong with snacks, after all. It was an easy enough lesson, though Miles didn't do much in the way of actually revising before they were finally dismissed for the day.

It was time for the final lesson in History of Magic for her first year and to be honest Mania was a bit sad about that fact. Se marched into the room happily, this time having remembered her glasses, and took a seat. She noticed the snacks and got right back up getting some for herself, snacks were always a good idea. As the revising started she raised her hand for the first question since nobody else seemed to want to answer. "It was Merlin!" Nia answered proudly before shutting up and focusing on her snacks and notes for the rest of the lesson. On her way out she stopped by the professors desk. "Thank you for this semester professor! Your class was actually one of my favourites so I am looking forward to next year!" It had surprised her how much she had liked the subject, although it could also be pretty boring, but you know small victories and all that?
