First timer

Uh... hi?

I think I'm supposed to do this "Out of Character"?

I'm Emma. I'm 24 years old. I'm Kiwi, but working in South Korea. I've never role played before. It's not something I want to spend all my time on but I'd like to try it as practice for developing characters for my books (I'm an aspiring writer).

So I'm still working my way through here. I think I'm smart enough to gather what's going on in most places, but I'm sure there are plenty of things that will confuse me. I think I tried to post something in the background section, to introduce my character, but it said I didn't have permission.

So, I have no experience, I'm unfamiliar with the lingo, etc. I'm really brand new. I'm hoping my character can start at Hogwarts in September.

Some questions:
-are Private Messages supposed to be in Character?
-my character is wary and secretive h43r: , but people need to know something about me in order to interact. How much should I reveal to begin with?

If anyone can give me some tips I'd be grateful.

I can help you with the whole PM thing. Usually they are out of character, so that you can discuss things that you will do in character, or just talk to friends ^.^

It's pretty simple but if you need any help just PM our awesome Admins Nicholas King Or Cecily Rambolt

Not at all there are many not open carecters in HNZ. Zazuka is a very open person but Hoshi tends to keep somethings to herself. Just write what you know how to and go from there that's always surved me well.

When you write your character bio, you can put anything in there that you want people to know.

When you RP however even if someone's read something in your bio, they should still not know anything about it except perhaps if it would be something the school would have to know (like being a werewolf)

Also while RPing it may be wise to decide what secretes you want to keep and what you might be willing to have slip out most people tend to have a lot of secretes but through accidence or deduction they end up coming out therefore taking away the secretive nature of your character.

I've spent a few hours looking through the forums and feel like I'm getting the hang of the place.
Do I need to do anything to ensure my character can go to Hogwarts other than just 'show up' at the sorting ceremony?

Anyway, I'm Laura, and I have another account called Lisa Boatwood too.

In order to get Sorted, you have to write out a Sorting Form and send it to the Sorting Hat account when Sorting opens up. Then just post in the ceremony, and you'll get Sorted
