Fifth Years, Lesson Six

"I am very pleased with the results from most of your quizzes; I believe you all will do fine on your OWLs. I expect the best effort from each and every one of you."

He looked to the windows, and as planned, it was raining heavily outside. "Now, students, we will not be using a charm of a destructive nature today; rather, we will be using one that proves to be quite useful. Luckily, this spell can be used on anything; whether it be your face, your glasses, what have you."

"Today, after we cast this spell, you are going to be going outside into the rain, and I promise you will see the effects of this spell. The spell we are going to be learning today is Impervious."

Professor Haden paced as he pulled out a jacket, waving his wand and stating, "Impervius." A slight glow appeared around his jacket and then disappeared. "Now, students, cast this spell at an object, any object. If you are not confident in your abilities, I suggest you cast Impervious on an object or thing you are not afraid to get wet."

Once all of the students had cast the spell, or at least tried, Professor Haden led them out of the classroom, and in no time they were outside, the students somewhat tentative about bringing their things into the downpour. Without a worry, Misha stepped into the rain, his hair immediately becoming soaked. However, his jacket seemed to have a barrier around it; repelling the water perfectly and leaving the article of clothing perfectly dry.

He watched as the students examined their things, most of them remaining dry and repelling water also. Bellowing over the resounding downpour, Misha spoke, "You see, Impervious repels water. If you wish to keep an object dry, or yourself, for that matter, you need only cast this spell. I have heard it is quite useful in Quidditch matches with rather unfavorable weather conditions; also useful for keeping glasses dry or if you have forgotten an umbrella."

Leading his students back to the classroom, Misha's short hair was still sopping as the students gathered their things. "I wish you all the best on your OWLs. I cannot emphasize enough, study, study, study, practice, practice, practice. Have a lovely break, I hope to see you again next year as sixth year"

Attendance post is enough.

As Terror Zhefarovich sat in Professor Haden's Charms class, he listened with a keen ear, observing the professor's every move and word. He smirked slightly as Professor Haden mentioned they wouldn't be using a destructive charm today. That was disappointing, but the thought of having more practice with them later made him eager to keep practicing. His eyes flickered to the rain pouring outside the window, noting how heavily it fell. As the professor demonstrated on his jacket, Terror observed closely, taking mental notes on the wand movements and incantation. He was confident in his spellcasting abilities, having always prided himself on his precision and finesse with charms. When it was his turn to cast the spell, he chose robes. With the right movement and incantation, a shimmering barrier enveloped his robes momentarily before fading away.

Following Professor Haden and the rest of the class outside, he deliberately stepped into the rain, feeling the cool droplets hit his face. However, his robes remained completely dry, the water cascading off harmlessly. Terror kept his cool demeanor intact, enjoying the sight of his fellow students failing with the spell. As Professor Haden explained the practical applications of Impervious, especially in Quidditch matches and everyday scenarios, Terror nodded. Back in the classroom, as the lesson concluded, Terror gathered his things quickly, and left to head back to his dorms.

As Cassius Styx walked into Professor Haden's Charms class, he listened with a nonchalant air to the professor's instructions about the Impervious charm. Rain or shine, Cass always had an air of confidence about him, knowing he could handle any magical challenge that came his way. Professor Haden's words about their upcoming OWLs were met with a dismissive smirk from Cass. Of course, he expected to do well, he always did. As the class prepared to practice the Impervious charm, Cass selected his wand with a flourish, eyeing the rain outside with mild interest. When it was time to cast the spell, Cass didn't hesitate. He chose his shoes. A shimmering barrier enveloped the shoes. He chuckled to himself, pleased with the result but hardly surprised. Confidence was key, after all.

Following Professor Haden outside, Cass observed the other students' attempts with a critical eye. Some struggled more than others, their lack of confidence evident in their wavering spells. Cass couldn't help but feel a twinge of satisfaction at being among the more proficient casters. As Professor Haden demonstrated the practical uses of the Impervious charm, Cass nodded knowingly. He had heard of its applications in Quidditch matches. At least his spell worked, and his shoes remained dry. Back in the classroom, Cass' demeanor remained composed as he gathered his things. He left to go study a bit more, but nowadays, he doubted that he needed all of it.

Savannah was feeling the pressure of her exams. She just had to do well. She didn’t need O’s but she needed to still do well. There wasn’t any pressure from her parents, but she doubted her parents would even realise how old she was now. They were useless and she wanted to do well for her, not for them. The ravenclaw was studying more than anything, with only occasional quidditch. She didn’t feel the need to play quidditch when the season was over and what she needed to be doing was revision. The Ravenclaw continued to revise right up until she had to leave for class, and she went straight to class when she needed to.

Savannah walked into the charms classroom and took her usual spot in the room. She nodded as the professor told them which spell they would be doing and Savannah happily followed the instructions that the professor gave and cast it on her bag. She made sure she did the spell a few times, accounting for her taking a bit of time to be able to actually get it. Then Savannah followed the rest of the class outside to where the professor then stepped out into the rain and encouraged them to all do so too. Savannah stepped out and was relieved when the spell seemed to have worked.

Gregory knew he was going to fail his exams, there was no way he’d ever do well at all. His exams were just going to go terribly. He was going to do so terribly, and that would end up with him just getting kicked out of the school, and then it would just be terrible and he’d have no prospects and just fail miserably at every turn. He was trying to stay positive, but it had been hard enough before, it was pretty impossible currently with all the stress he was feeling. The teen gathered what he needed and headed to class.

Gregory walked into the charms classroom and took his usual spot in the room. Though it was clear as the professor got started that they wouldn’t be sticking around in the classroom, and instead would do the spell and then go outside. Gregory had hoped to just linger in the background but he could. The teen got his wand and tried to cast the spell but it was hard to do when he wouldn’t be sure until after if it had actually worked. He practiced the spell a couple of times and then was brought outside with everyone else and was lad when at least one of the attempts had worked.

Roo was glad that it was the last week of classes. Classes had definitely held her back from exploring this semester, so she was excited to just get them out of the way so she had the next couple of weeks to just explore. The girl made her way to her charms class, looking forward to this class being over. She took her seat and listened as the professor simply wasn't giving them another quiz to complete but rather going straight into teaching a new spell.

When instructed, Roo took out her wand as she thought about what object she might not care about should it happen to get wet. She thought for a moment before taking her prefect badge off her robes and using this. She said the incantation and then headed outside to where it was conveniently raining to see if this spell had worked. Roo didn't notice if it had or not at first, but then realised there were no rain drops falling on it, which meant it was successful. Happy with this, Roo thanked the professor before heading to her next class.

Leah had a knot in the pit of her stomach as the last week of classes rolled around. She didn’t feel ready for anything that awaited her in the next few weeks but she was helpless to stop any of it. She felt heavy as she walked to class and took her seat. She had been hoping for a chance to study during class time and the lack of a quiz on her desk made her think that might be the case. But as Professor Haden greeted them she realized she wasn’t that lucky. She sighed but could at least admit the spell was a useful one to know. She wasn’t sure what to charm until she looked at her charm book and shrugged. Then it was time to put their skills to the test as they went out into the rain. When it was her turn to test her charm’s strength she held the book over her head and walked around for a minute before returning to safety. Most of her body was wet but the top of her head and her textbook seemed perfectly fine. She had to roll her eyes at Professor Haden’s parting words. As if she wasn’t doing that already.
