it had been a few weeks since Samantha had started teaching here, and so far, being back was nice yet it also felt strange to be back. Sure, seeing her old classmates around was familiar but the difference was that they weren't students here anymore, they were in fact members of staff here now. Every time she walked through the halls of the school, memories from her time at Hogwarts would replay in her mind. The former Hufflepuff wasn't exactly sure what she was going to be wearing for the Halloween feast, but she did remember that she always enjoyed the Halloween feasts at her time at Hogwarts. The girl had eventually found a dress with different layers and decided to go with that and call it a day. As Samantha stood near the snack food table, she felt weird that she was here as a professor watching over the students instead of actually being one of the many students that were being watched

Ari liked to just make sure no one was getting into things they shouldn't, and so when she got to the party she noticed one of the new professors, grinning at her, she waved. "hi! You’re Samantha, yeah? Took over Arithmancy, did ya?" It was a subject that had some overlap with her own, so it was one she rather liked. All the divinic kind of classes were passions of hers really, even if Runes was her special love. "How ya findin' it? Heard ya graduated from the school, yeah?"

Samantha smiled at the professor and waved back. "Yup! That's me! Call me Sam though! And yes, I did take over Arithmancy" Samantha says with a chuckle. It still felt a bit weird for her to be known as a professor around here. It was even stranger that she was now sharing on teaching the subject with her former classmate. "And you're Marigold aye? If I'm not mistaken? Ancient Runes?" Samantha asked the professor. She had forgotten that there were so many staff that were part of the school, she knew she had to remember the names and faces eventually. "Yup, graduated here, which feels like ages ago if I'm being honest. It feels a bit weird being back" Samantha says with a chuckle and shrug. At one point she went back to her old school routine and almost made her way to the Hufflepuff common room instead. "How about you? Where'd you study?"

It was a subject that, like her own, you really had to want to like. Most kids, if they didn't need it in their career, often didn't give it a second glance. She really couldn't say she remembered anyone ever telling her this was what they wanted to do with their life, which was a shame because it was honestly such a beautiful subject. "Right then, Sam it is. You can call me Ari if ya like-'s what I prefer meself." Some people didn't like nicknames or shortening of nicknames and so she'd figured she couldn't go wrong with the proper name on the outset. "Not surprised at all! I didn’t have no formal schoolin’, really. Got taught mostly by me Aunties an’ Uncles, with me cousins. I’m from a small mob out in Australia, y’see." she said, fixing the hat on her head so that it sat properly. "Comin’ here an’ seein’ all this was a bit of a shock, but ya get used to it. Lot more indoors than what I’m used to, though"

Samantha grinned. "Nice to meet ya Ari! Nice costume by the way" Sam says with a grin and another wave while gesturing to Ari's costume. Seeing everyone's different costumes was definitely fun and exciting as well as what the students could come up with. Sam nodded along to what Marigold had said, as she also grabbed one of the small snacks from the table nearest to her. "Yeah, I guess it's something you're not really used to. Very different. Does New Zealand seem different from your part of Australia at all?" Samantha says with a small smile. Sam had forgotten not all of the professors and staff here were graduates here, each staff member and professor had different backgrounds, whether it was history or education-wise, which was interesting. "How long have you been teaching here?"

ooc: hope you don't mind if i pop in
Adorah always volunteered to chaperone dances. They gave her something to do, and it allowed her to understand the students more outside of classes. She adjusted her wig as she looked around the Great Hall and saw Sam talking to one of the other younger professors who she didn't know all too well. The former Ravenclaw made her way over to the duo and gave her friend a smile. "Love the costume," she said to Sam before turning to the other woman. "You took over Ancient Runes, right?" she asked, trying to remember the woman's name. It was just hard when you were so focused on your subject and there wasn't much interaction with some of the electives, even if there should be. "Mary?" she asked, unsure if that was the right name.

Marigold looked down at her shirt and grinned. "Cheers, we don't really do much for it where I'm from, but I figured I'd sorta join in on the vibe anyway, eh?" she said, nodding. "Where I come from, it's mostly arid desert, so the land's real different. The culture too, you know? Back home, it's more about being outdoors, but here it's colder, and folks seem to stick indoors more than I'm used to. Back home, most people I see are family - my Aunties, Uncles, all my cousins. Here, though, I don’t really know anyone yet." she wasn't sad about it or anything, it was just an observation. She liked living and working here for the moment and if she ever didn’t she knew she could just leave because she had somewhere to go. “This'll be my second year, actually. I got started last year.” It was how she knew that Samantha was a new face, since she hadn’t seen her before, though she’d heard the woman was a graduate through the grapevine a little. She turned then when she heard another voice, her eyes landing on a professor who had been here a little longer than her. “Ah, waya, yeah, I did. Name's Ari” She corrected, though Mary certainly wasn’t far off. “Yeah, Marigold, that’s where the Mary bit comes from, I reckon” She didn’t know Adorah well, but had seen her around and some of her students had asked about any overlaps between the subjects. Astronomy tended to come to mind for that, so she’d heard of her through that.
