Professor Styx leads the two contestants to the stage, appointing them into the north or south part of the stage. He reveals the rules as well as the point system. He walks off the stage and orders the duel to begin, as he keeps a watchful eye.
OOCOut of Character:
All right, make sure that you use the spell list for guidance. No board rule breaking is acceptable. Have fun! I have a copy of the code that you should use with every post. Remember, when you are knocked out, unable to shoot anymore spells, you lost. And if you run out of points, you lose.
The duel begins now. If someone doesn't post after 24 hours, they are disqualified.

Coming off a defaulted victory with Vladimir leaving the duelling area, Emilee was determined to prove herself here. She had a lot at stake in the duel and no way was some rebellious prefect going to make her lose. Stepping on the stage, Emilee adhered to certain protocols before jumping right into battle. She had respected Vladimir, but she held no respect for this Gryffindor. "Confringo!"

Climbing up the steps to the duelling platform, his cloak draped over a chair on the main floor area, he took a pace forward and then bowed. Although he didn't particularly like Emilee after her attempt to get him in trouble, he couldn't underestimate her, and so he took a half-step back as he cast the shield charm to protect him from what was a deadly spell had it hit. Getting a feel for her reactions, James quickly followed this up with a spell of his own, Expulso, using non-verbal magic to try and confuse her somewhat.

"Protego." Emilee raised a slight eyebrow. Either this gryffindor was dumber than she thought, or actually thought this was a game. Wordless magic was a little bit useless when you couldn't do wandless because all Emilee had to do was watch the hand movements. She'd been given some advice before this duel that she was following to the letter. No way was she letting this slip through her fingers. She had a couple of things she felt she had to prove to a couple of people after all. This was the way he wanted it after all, but there's no point playing all of ones cards in the first quarter. The expression on her face didn't change even as she decided on her next spell. "Duro."

James was unsurprised when Emilee calmly blocked his spell and sent another his way. He had only wanted to get a feel for her style anyway - she seemed content to simply block and cast again, as if she were trying to wear James down over time. Perhaps he could have his fun with her a little first though. Smiling, he blocked her spell, an interesting seventh year one he noted, and cast again himself. "My, my, somebody's determined. How's it going to feel like losing Em? Oh and by the way, Diffindo." He hoped that using a shortened form of her name would annoy her a little and might put her off.

She couldn't tell if she was getting to him or not, but she was sticking to her plans for now. However the moment he called her Em, she froze momentarily. Well if that's how he's going to play it. At the sight of his next spell, Emilee left her wand by her side and simply stepped into the cutting charm, ripping the front of her robes. There wasn't too much blood, thankfully, but she was hoping that would knock him off guard a little. He'd used her nickname, no-one used her nickname, not that she'd allow him to see the annoyance in her face. "Nice try." She spoke softly before casting another spell at him. She first thought of using Deprimo, but worried someone would step in on that one, instead turned to an old favourite. "Stupefy."

Having called her by her nickname, he noticed a distinct lack of reaction from her, and he wondered whether that meant he had struck a nerve or not. Still, it was worth using the nickname anyway, just in case. She might not want him 'fouling her name' or some such nonsense. Her stunning spell was simple, and he laughed, quite enjoying the duel now. "Protego. Is that the best you can do Em? Might want to swot up a little before NEWTs, eh? Expelliamus!" He had no real intention of provoking her, to James it was just harmless banter, but he had a feeling she might not take it that way, and goading her on was only an advantage if it meant she overstepped herself.

Emilee really had no feelings one way or the other for this gryffindor. He was more trouble than he was worth from what she'd heard and she could only count herself lucky that he was not in Slytherin, he would be a disgrace to the name. The audacity of him to think himself superior to her was almost laughable if it weren't so arrogant. Emilee never believed herself above anything that weren't true. She knew her place and she stayed in it. If he was trying to catch her off guard, he was sorely mistaken. "Protego!" Revenge is a dish, they say, best served cold. "Duro!"
