Kahurangi was regretting her decision not to sign up for duels this year as she entered the chamber to proctor, but she'd twinged her shoulder at rugby a couple of weeks ago, and wasn't really feeling up to straining it more, just in case. Proctoring was fun anyway, and there'd always be a chance next year to reclaim her title. She took her place on the platform and glanced between the two opponents facing off, curious to see what the students would be bringing to the table this year. "Alright, nice clean fight from both of you, please. On my mark." She stepped back, unable to help a smile as the duelists prepared. "Begin!"

The duel begins now. You have 24 hours from this to post your first reply, or face disqualification. Once both duelists have posted, you will have 24 hours from your opponents post to reply, or be disqualified. Ensure that you use the spell list for guidance on age-appropriate spells, and read over the dueling rules and points system. Please also remember site rules apply, including power/god modding. You can find the site rules here. Duels will run until there is a winner or until 6 IRL days have passed, in which case the winner will be chosen by RNG. If you are knocked out or otherwise disarmed/incapacitated, or if you run out of points, you will lose and the duel will end. Have fun!

As an added note: Spectators are allowed to post in this topic once per competitors post, but are forbidden from directly interfering with the duels.

For once, Audrey was not up against Teddy in the first round of the tournament. She could have kissed Savannah, althought that would have been extremely awkward and she was much happier not doing that. Dante was certain to be no pushover and she wasn't about to take him lightly, but she fancied her chances a little more against him. She smiled, bowed as instructed, and wasted no time in shooting off a babbling curse.

Dante Styx figured that this would be a great way to get out some of his anger. He sauntered to his platform and bowed to Audrey Beauchamp. And soon, she started with a curse that he knew he could not block. He ducked, "Holy sh*t!" He pointed his wand and cast the Banishing spell, a first year spell without thinking.

Audrey hadn't expected it to start off like this. She blinked and let out a startled laugh at Dante's outburst. The spell choice was confusing too, and that almost threw Audrey off. She dodged in turn as an instant reaction. No! She thought, shaking her head and righting her stance. This is your chance, don't blow it now! Audrey fired back a quick stinging hex, resolved to just roll with it and embrace the challenge of the unexpected.

Dante was not used to dueling. And with someone who has a lot more experience than him. He managed to block the spell thrown at him. She wanted to hurt him, so he could do the same! "Reducto!"

Audrey yelped, casting a swift protego as the ground trembled a little around her with the force of the spell. That was full on, but it was fun! She giggled with surprise. Maybe it was better if he dropped his wand, though, so she fired back a jelly fingers curse.

This girl was something else. He had to dodge it because Dante had no idea if it would effect both of his hands, or just one. He could not risk it. He fired back a Silencio spell.

Audrey wondered if Dante just kind of struggled with defensive spells? He was doing a bit of dodging. She quickly blocked the return spell - since she didn't know how to do non-verbal magic yet she'd be in trouble of that hit. Now wasn't the time to ask though, she felt like for once she had the upper hand in a duel and wanted to press the advantage, so she fired off a jelly legs jinx.

The spell that she gave him back luckily did not keep him out of the duel. However, it did make him fall on his rear end when he could not stand on his jelly like legs. He ended it with a Finite, and cast Reducto toward her, and jumped back to his feet.

Audrey was used to bludgers attacking her, so she shouldn't have been fussed by such aggressive spell use, but it was a little different. She also should have stayed on her guard, but the fact that her spell worked was a little distracting. She scrambled out of the way, almost losing her footing as she did. She blinked back at Dante, trying to get a good read on him. Unfortunately, reading people was not one of Audrey's skills. "Woah, hey," she spluttered, quickly getting back into position. "Confundo!"

In her heart of hearts, Audrey knew she wasn't a dueling prodigy. She was certainly good at magic, but the other parts of dueling, reading opponents and all that, didn't come as easy to her. But she really, really didn't want to lose. Back on solid footing, she quickly cast a shield charm to block and take a second, and fired back another silencing spell.

What was with this girl really trying to win? He blocked the spell, and taunted, "No one has ever made me shut up before!" He thought over the spells that he had up in his head. He finally thought of one, and sent out an Obscuro toward the prefect.

Of course Audrey was going to keep trying to win, she wasn't a quitter. But she would look like a failure if she lost early yet again. Her parents barely cared anymore since she didn't appear to be any sort of quidditch prodigy and held no desire to follow in their footsteps, but she cared. She was however not a dueling prodigy either. "Maybe they should?" she retorted, causing her to be too slow to block the spell. "My eyes!" She yelped, though there was no pain. Her vision was just completely foggy. Digging in her heels, she aimed to what she felt to be the ground around where Dante most likely was, or at least should be, and cast a reducto of her own at the ground, a last ditch effort to even it up.

Booyah, he managed to hit her with the curse, and made her blind. She still tried to fight, but Dante was ready. He blocked her Reducto, thanks to the poor aim. He fired back a disarming spell.
