Kahurangi was regretting her decision not to sign up for duels this year as she entered the chamber to proctor, but she'd twinged her shoulder at rugby a couple of weeks ago, and wasn't really feeling up to straining it more, just in case. Proctoring was fun anyway, and there'd always be a chance next year to reclaim her title. She took her place on the platform and glanced between the two opponents facing off, curious to see what the students would be bringing to the table this year. "Alright, nice clean fight from both of you, please. On my mark." She stepped back, unable to help a smile as the duelists prepared. "Begin!"

The duel begins now. You have 24 hours from this to post your first reply, or face disqualification. Once both duelists have posted, you will have 24 hours from your opponents post to reply, or be disqualified. Ensure that you use the spell list for guidance on age-appropriate spells, and read over the dueling rules and points system. Please also remember site rules apply, including power/god modding. You can find the site rules here. Duels will run until there is a winner or until 6 IRL days have passed, in which case the winner will be chosen by RNG. If you are knocked out or otherwise disarmed/incapacitated, or if you run out of points, you will lose and the duel will end. Have fun!

As an added note: Spectators are allowed to post in this topic once per competitors post, but are forbidden from directly interfering with the duels.

Elio was determined not to lose this year, and considering he wanted a rematch with Anisha, that meant he had to beat Leah. Easy enough, right? Only he didn't know her duelling style. He'd have to work it out on the fly. "Good luck, Leah," he said, before quickly flourishing into "Confundo!"

Leah had been a bundle of nerves all day but now the time had finally come. This was her last shot at a dueling title and she had been putting in the work, practicing every spare moment she had. Not that she had a lot between homework and patrols. Part of her was glad she wasn't up against Anisha yet so she could at least hopefully make it past the first round. She didn't know Elio well so she offered he a polite but measured smile when he wished her good luck. He got off the first spell but Leah was quick an ready with a shield charm before casting a offensive spell of her own. "Incarcerous!"

Nice try, Thorne. He could clearly see that she and Anisha were friends, they were similar personalities if her using incarcerous was anything to go by, but he'd been tripped up by this spell with Anisha last year, he knew better. So instead of dodging, or risking a late protego, he burned them with Incendio, and then waited to see what she would do next. After all, he had a few good incentives to win.

Leah wasn't entirely surprised to see her ropes thwarted. She knew she wouldn't be lucky enough to win a duel with one spell. But when Elio didn't send a spell back she stood for a moment before scoffing. "If you're not even going to try you should quit now." she said with a slight edge to her voice. But she didn't give him a chance to respond before she cast her next spell. "Expulso!"

"Maybe I just don't feel the need to try?" He didn't dislike Leah, he didn't know her, though she was obviously the impatient sort. So was he, to be fair, he didn't have a patient bone in his body, which had become a bit of a problem recently, but there was more than one reason he needed to win this duel, and it wasn't just for the chance of a rematch with Anisha. He blocked her spell, and then fixed his stance to be more fluid before hitting back with "Deprimo!" If she was going to try and blow him up, she'd started the war.

Leah rolled her eyes. "How boring." she said through gritted teeth in the time it took for him to fix his stance. At least he cast a spell this time and in his attempt to blow her up she smirked. Someone seemed to be trying now. She cast a shield charm with swift efficiency and didn't miss a beat sending back another. "Diffindo!"

Elio rolled his eyes, how boring? What a joke, what did everyone have against strategy honestly? As if he hadn't been casting a spell the whole time and chose to not cast one time? It was obvious to him Leah had no idea what she was talking about, but then she probably didn't know a duellist. Well, he couldn't say he knew Roxas specifically, but he'd spoken to him, met him more than once. He'd had pointers given to him once or twice from multiple people, it wasn't his fault she didn't seem to agree. Headstrong as she seemed to be. "Protego, Levicorpus!"

Leah noticed he didn't have a comment after that. Her usually buzzing mind was locked, more determined than she probably ever had been. Maybe some banter was what she needed. She cast a shield charm and kept up her quick pace. "Deprimo!" she cast right at his legs.

He snorted as he shielded from her spell, rolling his eyes at her. He didn't know why she was being so aggressive, but he didn't care, "Densaugeo." He would like to see her with big teeth honestly, it would probably be really funny.

Leah wasn't sure why Elio seemed to be rolling his eyes. But she wasn't willing spare any time trying to figure it out. She had a duel to win. She almost laughed at the spell he cast back at her but she bit her tongue as she blocked it with a shield charm. If he wanted to go in that direction she could follow, and she cast a slug vomiting curse his way.

He stepped into the spell, letting it buzz through his body. It hurt, but he'd been feeling tired and honestly what a wake up call. "Sh*t," he gritted his teeth, the worst of it over almost as fast as it began. He shook his body, trying to get the feeling out, but he'd been hit with enough stinging hexes when learning to wield wandlessly, this was almost nothing. "Duro." He called, aiming his wand at Leah, though it maybe wasn't as powerful as it could have been, given the stinging still zinging through his body.

Ruth had swapped her green ribbons for red ones just for this duel - of course she was going to cheer on her cousin. It was a bit awkward she was dueling another Gryffindor, but it was what it was. It was hard to cheer much when it came to duels, in all honesty, since she didn't want to cause a distraction, but she couldn't help but let out a "YEAH LEAH!" when one of her spells hit. The boy she was up against seemed pretty tough but Ruth had faith in Leah.

Leah grinned as her spell hit but she didn't let her guard down until the proctor called the duel good and over. She felt a little bad seeing him in pain but that was all part of the sport. No one blamed beaters for hitting bludgers around. She heard Ruth shout for her but her eyes never left Elio as she blocked his spell with a shield and cast ropes at him again, this time to fully incapacitate him. "Incarcerous!"

Leah was getting a little tired but her determination and adrenaline kept her from feeling any of it. As flames came at her she use a flame freezing charm which cause the fire blow past her harmlessly. She tried to use the moment she was obscured by the fire to to obscure her movements before striking out with her next spell with everything she had. "Aguamenti!" she cast hoping to blast him off the platform.

Leah had no idea what Elio was talking about but she didn't stop to ask. She was focused and didn't let up for a moment as she cast a shield charm and in the next breath fired off another spell. "Expelliarmus!" she cast bringing it back to basics.
