Closed Discoveries

[Thistle Carnahan]

The "Forbidden" forest had enchanted Thistle since the moment she arrived at Hogwarts. What could possibly be so bad about a forest that you had to forbid people from going in?! She had been on plenty of bush walks with her family, and she wasn't going to let a silly thing like school rules stop her from discovering something new and fun. She had made sure to bring a bag with water and snacks just in case the walk wound up longer than expected and set off, winding her way between trees and clambering over roots and branches, hoping to find adventure in the wilderness beyond the school.

It was early simmer which was a great time of year to be alive. food was plentiful and the weather was warm but not so hot that things got too dry and brown as it was showing all the signs that it was going to be an unusually dry summer. today she had decided to relax a little. her food stocks were full and while she did need to do some maintenance on her shelter and maybe reset her snares nothing was urgent. that was the good thing about early summer. today she had followed a small brook through the forest enjoying the water on her hooves. she paused when she heard a noice not too far away. it didn't sound natural. it sounded like something trampling through the forest. not something big. but something not used to navigating trees. she turned around and made her way towards the noise hoping that it was maybe going to be a new friend for her. "Hello. what goes there?" she called trying to copy what two hoofs often said when they heard her moving around.

 

[Aspen]

The sounds and smells of the forest were delightfully familiar as Thistle made her way deeper, branches and twigs crunching underfoot as the birds sung above. She was contemplating how far she wanted to adventure before taking a snack break when she heard running water nearby - a perfect place to have a seat and relax. Just as she was making her way towards she heard something moving towards her. Thistle froze, torn between curiosity and self-preservation - she knew the right thing to do right now was to flee, but.... she wanted to know what was out here. She was still puzzling when the thing spoke, and that clinched it. Anything out here that could speak was something she very much wanted to get to know. She moved closer, and her eyes widened in awe at the sight before her. "Woah..." She breathed, taking in every inch of the woman in front of her. "You're a centaur..."

Aspen heard the movement stop. The whole forest seeming to hold its breath for a moment. Aspen too paused. She had been in the forest long enough to know where the few dangerous things lived and to avoid them. she also knew that the teachers could really do nothing to her. and the student's well she enjoyed talking to them. The world let out a breath as the child came into view. it was always interesting to see the student's response to seeing her, and this reaction was no letdown. Big eyes and an awes statement of what she was. "that i am. it's nice to meet you" she said. by this time they were close enough together that she could see the light hair growing beneath the green. and she wondered if she washed her hair in crushed up leaves it would go green. "I'm Aspen" she said offering out a hand to them.
