Chit Chat

"I just, can't." Nina said sadly, she didn't want this to be true but it was, she would consider going back to Scotland like Saks did, but she couldn't. Nina felt her eyes tear up but she blinked them away and said softly, "It's all for the best, Alex and I..." Nina paused then continued, "Alex and I are meant to stay friends."

Asher's eyes filled with tears. "Oh Nina..." Asher threw her arms around her friend and gave her a comforting hug.

Nina hugged Asher back although she was angry that Asher felt the need to comfort her. But Nina didn't show it at all, she pretended she was wrapped up with herself.

Asher pulled away from the hug and knew that she had made Nina even more upset. "Sorry Nina..." she whispered. She didn't know if maybe she should leave.

"Don't apologize, it's not your fault, I'm just confused," Nina said honestly hoping Asher wouldn't be mad at her.

"Believe me...I understand being confused..." Asher said. She had been there, she was still there. She still hadn't figured out why Noah liked her as much as she liked him.

Nina smiled weakly and said, "You know the worst part? He confided in me as did I and he still doesn't trust me, at least not in the same way I trust him." Nina was being very careful not to say Alex's name she knew uncontrollable things would happen.

"Alex seems like the kind of person that takes time to trust people. I was like that. It took me four years to even make friends!" Asher admitted.

"Believe me niether am I, I pretend to be but I am as just as distrusting as a lot of Snakes," Nina said referring to Slytherins than said, "Ooops sorry." She then continued with what she was saying before. "But I guess I just thought there was something there that there isn't," Nina said honestly.

"You can't know for sure that there isn't there until Alex tells you. And don't worry, you're right. Most Slytherins don't trust many people." Asher mused.

"But I can't keep making a fool of myself over and over until he gets a girlfriend and she tells me to 'back off' because he seems rather oblivious," Nina said truthfully, she had thought it was cute at first but now she was too tired.

"But what if that's what he was trying to tell you when he was looking for you before the first task?" Asher asked.

"To back off?" Nina said sadly she had hoped that wasn't what he wanted to say at all.

"No! That he liked you too!" Asher elaborated. "You can't automatically think the worst about yourself...maybe I should get Noah to talk to you about thinking badly about yourself like he did with me."

"I don't know, I think I will send him an owl and hope things go over well," Nina said softly.

"Now, thats just taking the easy way out! If you're going to say anything, say it to him." Asher said softly.

"I can't, you've seen how I get, I become a blubbering idiot." Nina said honestly.

"I can talk to him with you.......or for you if that's easier." Asher hoped Nina wouldn't want the last one...but she would do it if she asked.

"No I really think this is a matter we need to settle for ourselves," Nina said truthfully.

"Ok..." Asher nodded. She let a slight smile cross her face.

Nina smiled as Asher did but assumed they were for different reasons,

Asher didn't really know what to say. She wanted to ask Nina how her green dress was coming, but she was afraid to bring up the Yule Ball. And there was something she had wanted to tell Nina, but now she thought it may have hurt more than it would have been good news.

"So anything new with you?" Nina asked she sensed that Asher had something more to tell her or ask her.

Asher looked at Nina wearily. "Um...well...I've been feeling a little strange about Noah...and I don't know what it means. But we don't have to talk about it right now..." Asher added hastily.

"Go ahead," Nina said calmly.
