Break From Exams / Kaela's Going Away Party

Lily looked back at Bruin and smiled. "Thanks!" she said laughing. She then started looking to see what the others did. She knew at least a few of them had to have played an instrument.

Courtney continued to confidently grin while keeping up five fingers after Katalina's turn. She never had the opportunity to go to Africa, although it sounded like an interesting place to visit someday. Courtney eagerly waited for Lily to take her turn, hoping that she could keep holding up all five of her fingers.

"Nooo!" Courtney squealed as she was forced to put down one of her fingers. She owned a ukulele, and therefore had played a musical instrument before. Courtney glanced around at the others to see how many fingers each of her friends still had up.

(4 fingers)

Kaela narrowed her eyes playfully at Lily as she dropped her first finger.

((I believe that makes it Estrella's turn, then Kale's, then Bruin's, then mine.

Order: Kaela, Courtney, Katalina, Lily, Estrella, Kale, Bruin.

Kaela has 4 fingers up.))

Estrella sighed exasperatedly as she put down yet another finger, exclaiming, "I'm not very good at this game!" She had of course played instruments before. She bit her lip as she thought of something to say, and she finally said, "Never have I ever driven an automobile."
((Estrella has 3 fingers up.))

Bruin groaned as he recalled all of the times he had been allowed to drive a pick-up truck back home on the desolate mountain roads and the more infamous hot-wiring of a van during the previous year's assault on Stark Manor. He glared at Estrella and brought his pinky finger over to be held down by his already used thumb.

(Bruin has three fingers up!)

Kat listened quietly as the others took their turn. She was able to keep her remaining four fingers up as she didn't know how to play any musical instruments and she had most definitely never driven at any time.

((4 Fingers!))

((Kale's turn, then Bruin's then mine. It all depends on when Kale gets on and actually sees this and posts.))

Lily smiled as she watched people putting fingers down from her choice, and then listenened to Estrella's. She smiled as she kept her four fingers up. Though her father had offered her once or twice, Lily had never actually driven any sort of motorized vehicle.

(Lily has 4 fingers. Yay!)

((All right, seeing as I don't really have that much time to wait I'm just gonna fast forward and get this thread moving. If anyone is not ok with this, please let me know.))

After a rousing game of Never Have I Ever and some good socializing with her friends, Kaela decided it was time to break the news to everyone. She walked over to Bruin, looking slightly grim. "I guess it's time to tell them," she said softly, smiling weakly.

((Kale said to skip him anyway.))

Estrella broke away from the game when it was finished to grab a butterbeer, sticking close to the crowd and sipping away at it, looking around with interest. She suddenly wondered why they were having a party in the first place.

Bruin looked at Kaela and smiled. As much as he hated seeing her go, Bruin knew that it was what she needed to do and he placed his hand on her shoulder, not sure if it was to steady her or himself. "Alright, is there anything that you need from me?", he whispered, unsure just how the others would react to the news.

((Well I was not aware of this. He didn't tell me anything at all.))

Kaela's smile strengthened when she felt Bruin's hand on her shoulder. It was very comforting, and made her even more sad that she was leaving. "Uhm, could you get everyone's attention please? I don't really know how..." Kaela's cheeks flushed a bit and she looked pleadingly at Bruin, knowing he was good at commanding attention.

Bruin offered Kaela a reassuring smile. "Sure, no problem...", he said quietly, wondering to himself for a moment how he could fulfill Kaela's request. He was used to simply yelling or making a joke to focus attention on himself, but under the circumstances neither really seemed appropriate as the party, although fun to this point was shrouded by a veil of sadness that was about to be unfurled.

Bruin recalled the old saying that actions speak louder than words and simply grabbed Kaela's hand and led her forward a few steps into the middle of the gathering and cleared his throat. It was evident from their reactions that the other guests realized that there must be some reason for this impromptu party and friendly eyes slowly turned in their direction and the noise settled down. (sorry for the minor god mod :oy: )

"Ummm, hey everybody. I know some of you might be wondering why we decided to have this little get together tonight...", he said quietly, "...and well, I suppose that it's time for us, or Kaela really... to let you know.", Bruin said as he looked at Kaela and winked, trying to convey that it was okay and that they we're all here for her.

Kaela smiled up at Bruin and gave him a nod of thanks. She then turned to the gathering of people, her smile leaving her face as the color drained. This was not going to be easy, and it was the moment she had been dreading all day.

"Uhm, so....yeah. I...I'm leaving Hogwarts. Tomorrow, actually. It has nothing to do with any of you, I just thought you all should know." Kaela seemed extremely nervous, and she was. She was terrified of the reactions she would get, and stood there waiting worriedly.

Kat quit sipping on her butterbeer when Bruin said that Kaela had an announcement to make. She looked to Kaela and waited in anticipation, wondering what it was.

"Uhm, so....yeah. I...I'm leaving Hogwarts. Tomorrow, actually. It has nothing to do with any of you, I just thought you all should know."

Kat's jaw dropped slightly and she looked around to see what everyone else's response to the news would be. Though Kat didn't know Kaela as well as the others did, she still found the news very sad indeed.

Courtney was sitting and chatting with the others while drinking a butterbeer when she noticed Bruin drag Kaela into the middle of everyone and clear his throat. Immediately Courtney thought that they were going to announce the fact that they had started dating. But once Bruin stated that it was only Kaela that had something to say, Courtney sat there confused, not sure what to expect.

When Kaela said that she was leaving, Courtney stared at her in disbelief. LEAVING?!? After a few moments and a large amount of blinking, Courtney still did not understand what was going on. "You're leaving?" Wait a minute, how is Bruin involved in all of this?

"Yes, I'm leaving. I have to go home for a bit and be with my family. I'll be back, but, I have to go right now."

Lily sat there stunned as Kaela made her announcement. She didn't want to believe what she just heard. "Is everything okay with your family? Is there anything we can do to help you to stay?" Lily had really not known Kaela too well, but wanted to help her housemate out however she could.

"Everything will be ok..." Kaela manage to say softly. She bit her lip, trying to hold back the tears she could feel welling up. "I'm afraid I have to go. I wish I didn't, but, I do."

Estrella choked on her butterbeer as Kaela made her announcement, having figured that it would be something much more trivial. "Leaving?" she stammered, her mouth agape as she looked incredulously back at Kaela. "Leaving?" she repeated in a hoarse whisper. The students in her year were dropping like flies, first Rose, then Dru, then Liz, and now Kaela. She was in shock, unsure of what else to say.

Reality started to creep in, and Courtney realized that Kaela might actually be serious about leaving Hogwarts. Why didn't I see this coming? Was this whole party planned out to announce that she was leaving? And how in the heck did Bruin find out beforehand?

Courtney continued to sit there quietly, not sure of what to say. Kaela was one of her best friends, and now she was leaving. First Liz, now Kaela. Is Estrella going to disappear next?

(Sorry. I asked Estrella to tell you that I couldn't make it on much this weekend.)

Kale was thinking of a 'I have never..' statement for himself when suddenly Kaela and Bruin separated from the group for a quick moment and Bruin announced for their attention. What was going on? Kale sat for a moment with his legs in an 'Indian style' position, waiting quietly to spill the beans of what was happening. When Kaela stepped forward and informed the group that she was leaving, he stared at her blinkily, Why? he thought to himself.

Kale really liked having Kaela around and thought of her as a good friend to himself. Is it because of Ford and Sophia? Kale didn't know what to do, the last good friend of his that left was Blake and he was tired of his friends leaving. He bit his lip and looked around at the others reactions.

((I was thinking that some time would have passed since the playing of Never Have I Ever and Kaela's announcement.))

Bruin had remained standing beside Kaela, feeling strangely comfortable in his role as support person, but still essentially useless as the awkward silence dragged on. "So I know this is a pretty big shock for everyone, but it's not like Kaela is leaving forever, she just needs to be with her family for a bit. I think it's pretty obvious that she knows we'll still be here for her when she comes back. Tonight is just about seeing her off in style, right?" Bruin said, hoping that there was truth in his words.

Bruin gave Kaela a quick hug and then let her go, knowing that the others would probably want to follow suit. "Can I get you anything?", he asked Kaela as he went to grab himself a butterbeer.
