Sully had been crazy curious when an older student had produced the deck of cards earlier, insisting that these ones would explode. Apparently his curiosity had been entertaining enough for the guy to give Sully the deck, but not entertaining enough for them to want to stick around and play with him. Instead, Sully had been left to experimentally poke at them with his wand for a little bit. Snap was a pretty fun game normally, but explosions made everything cooler. With wizard stuff it was hard to tell if that meant like, boom explosion or like pop rocks explosion, and Sully was keen to find out. Flicking them across the table so far had yielded little results, and the lack of pyrotechnics from the cards was starting to lose Sully's interest. Levitating the 3 of Clubs, Sully bounced it up and down in the air a few times, wondering you could have a Russian roulette sort of game with them if you convinced everyone to stick a bunch cards in their pockets or something. Distracted by the thought of someone's pants exploding Sully let out a yelp and laugh when the card he was levitating finally exploded with a loud snap, causing him to flail from his spot at the table in a flurry of cards.

Classes had started and Chloë was ready now more than ever to get a good start on them. They had already been given some assignments and some reading for upcoming lessons, so the youngster figured she might as well try and work on that a bit. Since it hadn't been proven to be complicated yet, she made her way to the great hall rather than the library to work on them. Perhaps she'd even see some classmates and they could work on it together. After all, she was still in the run of trying to make friends. So, she took a seat at the table and opened up her books, ready to do some reading. Chloë had been getting along with her work pretty well, that was until she started noticing something across of her. A boy playing around with a deck of cards. With them being at Hogwarts she wasn't sure whether it would be regular cards or those of the exploding kind, but right now she hoped it would be the former. The youngster found out soon enough that it had been the latter, yet couldn't help but chuckle when the boy flailed from his seat with the cards scattering around them. "You know you're supposed to play with them right? Not just bounce them up and down in the hope that they might explode?" Chloë smiled as she closed her book. She picked up some of the cards that had landed close to her and then held out her arm to hand them back to the boy. "Although that was entertaining."

Sully scrambled back to the table, trying to shuffle the scattered cards with his palms back into something resembling a deck. There was another Gryffindor sitting nearby and Sully turned to her excitedly when she started speaking. "Entertaining is right, that was awesome. I hadn't really thought it'd actually explode," He said, taking the cards she was handing over him and flicking them curiously to see if they'd explode as well. "But anyway, I think my way of playing with them is better," He said with a shrug, shuffling the cards he had haphazardly. "I bet you can do loads of stuff with them. Like Exploding Go Fish or uhh- Exploding Poker. If your hand explodes you lose all your money." He said, grinning at the idea. Sully was starting to think maybe he'd really had always been a wizard, it seemed like he enjoyed exploding things just as much as they did.

Chloë chuckled at how enthusiastic the boy opposite of her was about his cards exploding. "But that's kind of their whole point?" She questioned, wondering whether he had perhaps never owned a pack of exploding cards before. Or maybe he hadn't grown up with magic and wasn't even aware that they existed. "They make everything so much more fun." She added. Chloë shrugged when he told her he taught his way of playing was better. She could recall often playing games with her family using the cards. They could be used for so much more than explosive snap. "My brother and I used to build houses of cards with them!" The youngster stated after the boy started thinking of all the things he could do with the cards. "We'd both start building as fast as we could and whoever had gotten the highest when the cards started exploding won." What he didn't need to know was that she would always lose. Untill today she had never known whether she was just bad at building a house of cards, or whether her brother's competitive nature always made him go that much faster.

Sully tried to imagine what it would be like to grow up around magic like some of the other kids had, listening as the girl talked about playing with the cards. It was almost unfair that he didn't find out about all this magic stuff until he was 11, but at least he found out at all. "Explosions make everything funner," He said sagely, nodding to the girl. "Card towers sound mean, it's like Jenga, only better," He said excitedly, managing to finish corralling the remaining cards back into roughly a deck shape. Playing a game like that would certainly make rainy days in the common room a bit more exciting. "I'm Sully, by the way," He said, realizing he didn't recognize the girl from classes. Sully liked to think he was pretty good with names.
Glancing up and down the table, Sully zoned in a nearby water pitcher and some other Gryffindors who were studying. With a slow grin, he turned to the girl. "You wanna help me see if they'll still explode if we stuff them in that water pitcher?" He asked mischievously. She already seemed like she might be a fellow fan of explosions.

Chloë chuckled when the boy noted that everything was better with explosions. She didn't exactly agree with that statement, but she did find that exploding cards were a lot more fun to play with than regular cards. "They definetely are." She agreed with the boy, the thought of building a house of cards when she got back to her dorm to see if she might be better at it than she remembered slowly creeping into her head. "I'm Chloë." She smiled. Her English was plenty good, with her dad being from New Zealand and all, but she would always keep pronouncing her name the French way, as it was intended to. Not that she minded others pronouncing it differently, as long as they were comfortable with how they said it she was pretty much cool with it. The youngster turned her head to the side to spot the water pitcher the boy was talking about. She wished she would have had a smart answer to it, that she knew whether or not the cards would still explode when they were wet but she had never tried it so she didn't have a clue. Thinking about it for a second she turned back to the boy and shrugged. "Sure, why not." A little fun couldn't hurt right?

Sully grinned when Chloe was game to join in on his plan. He knew there were a few kids in his year that were kinda lame. Splitting the deck, Sully handed Chloë one half before sliding off his seat and half crabwalking over to the water pitcher near some other kids. He tried to stay low, holding a finger up to his lips to Chloë to emphasize that this would a be stealth mission before reaching over and flicking a few cards into the pitcher. The first couple didn't explode, and Sully wondered how many they could shove in there before either someone noticed or the deck went off.

Chloë took the cards from the boy and crouched down, following him over to the water pitcher. She looked on as Sully flicked some of the cards into the pitcher, the kids at the table somehow oblivious to what was happening right next to them. Either they were too busy with whatever they were doing to notice, or the two kids were amazingly stealthy. Chloë followed the boy's lead and carefully managed to get a couple of the cards into the pitcher. However, they didn't do anything. "I don't think it's working.." She whispered to the boy, trying to be as quiet as possible and wondering what their next move should be. They could give up, or perhaps they could throw the entire deck into the pitcher and see if it would do anything.

Sully was feeling pretty proud of their mission, excited that Chloë was game to join in. Thankfully the other students seemed engrossed in what they were doing, and he and Chloë were able to get a good chunk of the deck into the pitcher, though Sully had to duck down under the table a few times. It was hard to keep a straight face between the anticipation of being caught or having the cards set off, but Sully managed, in the spirit of a good prank, to keep it together. Chloë was right though, it didn't seem to be working. "Maybe you have to slap them? Like if you're playing snap?" He mused, drawing his wand speculatively. If could give the cards in the picture a poke, maybe they'd go off. It looked pretty silly right now, the water jammed up with playing cards, and Sully hoped they hadn't ruined them getting them wet, but it was a bit late now. Weighing his wand in one hand and his remaining cards in the other, Sully was ready to just take a swing at them when there was a wet pop, followed by a spray of water and cards.

Chloë shrugged when Sully said that they might needed to slap them. She had never tried to make the cards go off in water, so she couldn't tell him whether or not that would work. Perhaps they just didn't work when they were wet. If that was the case, then getting the cards out of the pitcher without everyone noticing would be the next task at hand. The youngster looked on curiously as the older boy was about to tap the cards with his wand, only to find out that the cards did in fact still work when they were wet. Not only did the water spray out of the pitcher, but the cards as well. Chloë chuckled as they, and a couple of kids who were sat at the table, got sprayed with water. "Okay, so- They work." She laughed, pulling of a card that had stuck to her face after the card explosion. "Although I doubt they think it's funny." Chloë added, nodding towards the kids at the table who had become victims of the splash.

Sully cheered with the cards finally went off, laughing as the water splattered around them. He'd just managed to get himself a bit under control, making vaguely apologetic motions at the students they'd managed to shower when he turned to look at Chloë, losing it all over again as she pulled a wet card from her face. "Magic is cool as," He managed between giggles, glancing back over to where some of the older kids were getting to their feet, turning back to Chloë with an exaggerated 'Uh Oh' face. "Time to go?" He asked with a grin, already scrambling to his feet, years of little brother experience letting him know when it was time to up and scram before anyone could process who was responsible.

Chloë shook her head when Sully lost it as she pulled the sticky card from her face. "Glad I entertain you." She chuckled, throwing it in his direction in the hope that it would stick to him instead. "For sure." She agreed with his statement about magic. She couldn't even imagine what her life would be like if there wasn't any magic involved. But then again, if that was the case she wouldn't even know that magic existed so she probably wouldn't miss it. Chloë moved back a little when she noticed some of the kids get up. Kids that were certainly bigger than she was. "Definetely!" She replied to Sully's question, jumping up and turning around to make her way out of the hall as fast as she could.
this is so late omg i'm sorry
