This was an important milestone in the life of a wizard, and Irene Finch knew that many of the students looked at their license as a taste of the freedom they'd earn on their way to becoming fully trained wizards. With the registration list tucked in a folder that was under her arm, the woman stepped into the room. She called attendance, making sure that no one had snuck into the room without paying their galleons. "Good afternoon, sixth years. My name is Irene Finch and I'm here on behalf of the Department of Magical Transportation and Ministry to prepare you for your apparition exam." She said all of this briskly. Irene was not a lady who liked her time wasted. Irene hoped to be able to focus on her job today, grateful for the distraction that work brought these days. Pacing in the front as she spoke, her heels clicking as she moved, Irene's icy blue eyes looked at all of them and none of them at once. "The headmistress has been kind enough to lift the enchantment placed on this room so that you will be able to practice apparating within these walls for the duration of our lessons."

Her voice echoed throughout the room. With so few students and the furniture against the walls, her voice carried easily and echoed slightly. The woman focused on a student in the front, her blue eyes piercing into the student. "I will warn you from the start that your ability to apparate will have little to do with what house you are in or your blood status. Your ability to apparate will, solely, depend on your ability to focus on the three Ds: Destination.Determination. Deliberation." She enunciated each word. "There are no shortcuts. If you fail to grasp these concepts, you will fail your exam. First, you must choose your destination. Next, you will focus your determination and once you feel you are ready..." With a small step, Irene apparated next to one of the sixth years who had been whispering while she was lecturing and continued, "you must move with deliberation like so." She gave the student a sharp look.

Moving towards the front of the room, Irene continued lecturing the students. She knew that some were probably expecting to apparate today but she also knew that the foundation for apparating started with this information. Soon enough their time was up, and they had done nothing but listen. "Don't forget the 3 Ds. I will see you all next time. A word to the wise: Don't bring anything with you to the next lesson. The less you carry, the easier it will be. As a reminder, the moment you step out of this room, the enchantment will be put back in place until next time we meet. It would be very, very unwise to consider practicing anywhere on the school grounds until then." With that, she dismissed the students though she waited a few moments longer in the event that any of the students had questions.

Please RP the lesson. Remember that these lessons are so that your student can earn a license. Without it, they can't apparate!

This is just the first of only three lessons before the exam takes place.

Kauri had been both excited and nervous about today for a while now. He didn't remember exactly when he had discovered adult wizards could just.... teleport at will, but ever since then he had been eager to learn how, and the day had finally come. He had heard rumours though, about someone getting badly hurt last year, and the idea that it could be dangerous to apparate twisted his stomach with uncertainty. He remembered what they had learned about splinching in Transfiguration uncomfortably well. But nobody had died, and Kauri wanted to give it his best effort, even if he was nervous. What kind of Gryffindor shied away from such an exciting opportunity?!

So he joined the rest of his classmates waiting outside the Great Hall, and followed them inside when they were welcomed in. He listened carefully to the lady from the ministry, a little unnerved by her strict nature. She reminded him a little bit of Professor Styx, though a less spooky version perhaps. Kauri was glad he had stashed a muggle notebook and pencil in his bag, using it to take notes as Ms. Finch spoke, not wanting to miss anything. He wrote the three D-s in big letters and underlined them in particular, to make sure he wouldn't forget. His eyes widened when she apparated right in front of them, and he grinned nervously. Surely he'd be able to figure this out, and it'd be so exciting to be able to just teleport wherever he wanted to go. Kauri couldn't wait. He made a note not to bring anything to the next lesson, before stowing his things back in his bag, both relieved and disappointed that the lesson had ended so quickly. Kauri took a moment to thank the lady before heading off to his next class, already excited and nervous for next week.

Today was a day Caro had looked forward to ever since she had first arrived at Hogwarts. Apparition. A word synonymous with freedom. Finally, she would be able to travel wherever she wanted, whenever she wanted. It had ached to watch Lizzie pass her own exam two years earlier, and Caro had had to grit her teeth as her sister took to apparating everywhere for what seemed to be the sole purpose of annoying her. Caro had taken to getting breakfast early and eating in her room, so she wouldn't have to deal with Lizzie popping into the room, or Mum and Dad fawning over her every time. It had been beyond insufferable. Now, finally, it was her turn.

After passing this exam, nobody could stop Caro going anywhere she wanted. Hell, she didn't even really need to come back to Hogwarts. Caro had entertained a fantasy a few times of just leaving as soon as she finished her sixth year, and never returning, heading off to see the world just like she had always wanted to. Caro didn't want to be the dropout sister though, have finishing school be just another thing Lizzie could hold over her head. No, Caro was going to see her time at school all the way through just to spite her sister. She was so caught up in her own thoughts that Caro almost forgot to pay attention to the teacher. A stupid mistake. She tuned back in just in time to get the most important part, though. Destination, determination, deliberation. Caro could remember that. She would, and she would commit it to her mind so thoroughly that she would be the best apparater in her entire year, no question. She was disappointed when they didn't actually get the opportunity to try today, heart sinking, but there was nothing Caro could do about that. She lingered once the lesson was over, hoping to ask the ministry lady a few questions. Sidling up to her, Caro smiled nervously. "Sorry, can I ask some questions? I'm just curious about some things. Like... what's the furthest it's possible to apparate? Would it be possible to apparate to a different country, or is it only safe with portkeys?"

Norton always felt energised at the beginning of any semester but even more so now. He was so happy with where his life was, it didn’t matter that his sister’s letters painted a different picture, he just had to push through. After all, he had an amazing girlfriend, he had good grades, he was on the quidditch team, he had so many good things in his life, so he should let himself be happy about life in general. At the very least he didn’t have as many important classes in this semester as he’d had in the last, so he could relax far more easily. The prefect bounded around the dorm room picking up various items that he would need for the coming day, his books, his notes from years prior, his writing equipment and the quidditch gear too. It was a lot but thankfully being magic his bag didn’t weigh a thing, could fit all of it in one. He made sure he had everything before getting himself ready for the day, allowing himself a cursory attempt to run a brush through the absolutely unruly hair on his head before he grabbed his bag and wand and headed out of the class.
Norton was a little unsure about apparating, he had learned about what it was and had for the most part put it to the back of his mind. After all, he didn’t need to think about it till now. But now, the class was upon them and he didn’t want to be the only kid in his year group to not at the very least attempt it. The teen figured it was the same as muggle kids learning to drive at a certain point everyone just did it. He walked into the great hall with the rest of the students and looked towards the teach who was stood at the front of them all. She looked stern. Norton listened as the professor got started, introducing herself and then telling them that they would be able to apparate within this room during the lessons and not at any other point. The teen nodded and was rather relieved that his muggle born status wouldn’t make this any more difficult. He repeated the three D’s under his breathe once the professor had and then watched as she showed them. With that however, the lesson was brought to an end, he was a little thankful they wouldn’t need to do it just yet. He headed out of the great hall, eager to learn but very nervous about it.

Marcos was pleased to be back at school, with all of his siblings having grown up and left the house, so he was the only one really left which made it a bit boring. He had thought about remaining at the school but the boy had decided to spend time at home with his mum and to be able to just relax a little away from school. It had been a good semester, but the mesh of emotions he’d felt over the first semester in this school, but those had mostly washed away and spending some time away from school had really helped. He felt energised and ready to be able to spend a little bit of time in his classes working hard, doing quidditch and appreciating everything that he had. Marcos had to do a lot of quidditch practice over the next few weeks, continuing to build himself and his skills up until he knew he’d be ready to start trying out for teams after school. He’d need to start doing that in the following year. For now, he just put all of his books together and then got all of his quidditch gear together and then headed out of the dorm room.
Marcos was very excited about what doing apparition at long last meant. He had been looking forward to it for ages and finally it was upon them. The boy was stood with the rest of the class and walked into the great hall for the lesson when the professor or teacher allowed them in. Marcos looked up at the woman and nodded as she got started. Introducing herself to them and what this class was about. The gryffindor was very eager to get started, He knew it was unlikely that they would actually apparate in this class but he did want to. However, he knew that he would end up getting hurt if he didn’t pay attention so Marcos focused himself and began listening along to what the professor was saying. Nodding as she said it wouldn’t matter the blood type since what it took was hard work. He nodded as the professor told them the three D’s that he would need to remember. Three D’s that he was repeating in his head as the professor demonstrated apparition. With that and a continued lecture finally being wrapped up the lesson was ended. He nodded slightly the words that she’d said still ringing in his head. He headed out of the great hall and to where he could work on learning about the three D’s of apparition.

Phoebe Holland was honestly relieved to be back at Hogwarts. It was always nice to learn more and new things, and she really just liked being at Hogwarts. Everything there seemed to be possible, and there was always a new adventure around the corner. That was not so much the case at home, where things were mostly a bit tense between her sisters and her parents too. Her mother was still very busy, and by now also fairly pregnant. Alice was still grumpy about that, and Diana was still annoying. It wasn't bad to be away from all that for a bit, and Phoebe was a little glad she was the only Ravenclaw in her family. She didn't even have to deal with their annoying new cousin like Rose did.

It had been a few years since Phoebe had had any new classes. Someone as curious as her was definitely glad to learn something new this year. Though it always did annoy her when Rose got to learn things before she did, Apparition was a bit different. Rose hadn't managed to pass the test last year, so still wasn't able to apparate. If Phoebe managed to pass, she would finally have something before Rose did, and finally prove in some way that she was just as good, if not better, than her sister. A lady from the ministry would teach them, and Phoebe felt like she was quite intimidating. She noticed the last name was familiar, and remembered the candidate that had run against her mother a few years ago for minister. She wondered if they were related but wasn't sure. Phoebe listened to the teacher as she said the enchantment on the room had been lifted so they could practice. Phoebe listened to the rest of her words a little impatiently, though she made a mental note of the three D's. Those seemed especially important. The concept was simple enough, but Phoebe suspected it wouldn't be simple at all in execution. Phoebe grinned a bit as the woman apparated in front of a whispering student, enjoying that moment. The lecture went on after that, and Phoebe tried her best to pay attention to it all. When the lesson was over, Phoebe left the great hall. She was sure she would remember not to bring anything to the next lesson.

The new semester had started, which for Sophie mostly meant a new issue of the paper had to be set up. Last semester had gone well, and Sophie was pleased by the increased activity that came with a few new people joining the club. But she had to focus on her grades too. Last semester she had managed, partly because of Amber's notes, but she knew she had to do it again. Next year would be even more difficult, and Sophie was already dreading her OWLs. She had to do well if she wanted to be a journalist, and that was all she wanted. The school paper was important to her, but she had to ensure that after graduation she would be able to work for a real paper.

Apparition was something Sophie had nearly forgotten about until she had heard others talk about it. She had known it was in the sixth year, but it had almost managed to slip her mind. Amber had passed her apparition test in one go, and Sophie hoped she would be able to do the same. It seemed very useful, being able to appear and disappear at will. The teacher wasn't one of the professors, but instead an unfamiliar woman. She introduced herself as Irene Finch and told them she was there on behalf of the Department of Magical Transportation. Somehow, it surprised Sophie that the ministry was sending people to teach things like this. The teacher was quite intimidating, and Sophie listened quietly as she spoke. She said the headmistress had lifted the enchantment on the room so they cloud apparate. Then, she went on into some theory. Sophie had brought a small notebook for this and wrote things down as Ms. Finch told them about it. She noted down the Tree Ds, as they seemed very important. Sophie smirked a bit as the teacher apparated next to a student who had been whispering, liking her more for it. There was a bit more information to write down, and then the teacher told them not to bring anything with them for the next lesson. Sophie guessed that meant she would do better to leave her notebook in the dorm next week. She rolled her eyes as they were reminded not to practice anywhere in the school grounds. Only total idiots would try that. They were dismissed, and Sophie waited by the door for Caro who had a few questions.

April was pretty happy to be back at Hogwarts. It was fun to be here again and see her friends and boyfriend. She was a bit sad that her last year was around the corner, and even sadder that October would be graduating soon. When they had started Hogwarts, they had only barely known each other. Now, they were truly sisters. How was she going to cope without her there? October usually helped April stay on track with her school work. Sometimes a little too much, but April was sure she would miss it next year.

The Hufflepuff made her way over to the great hall for the first apparition lesson. She was quite nervous about it, and not entirely sure she would manage to apparate after these three lessons and an exam. October had managed last year, but October was good at everything. April definitely wasn't, so she had to do her best. The girl stood near both Kauri and Norton, giving them both nervous smiles before the teacher started to talk. She introduced herself as Irene Finch and told them she came from the Ministry, which was kind of strange. She had never been taught anything at Hogwarts by anyone but professors. April tried her best to follow the lecture, a bit relieved to hear that apparition had nothing to do with blood status or house. But it would have to do with the three D's. She tried her best to understand each one of them, as they were very important for this. April jumped as the lady suddenly apparated, but looked at it in admiration too. She wanted to be able to do that! April started fidgeting a bit as the lecture went on, but eventually the lesson was over and they were disissed. April tried to remember not to take anythign to the next lesson, and definitely wouldn't try apparating anywhere at school as tempting as it would be.

Beata was ready for this. She really wanted to be able to travel on her own, especially since she did not like flying on brooms. Well, she would do it if she needed to, but she preferred not to. She walked into the Great Hall and stood towards the middle. She really did not want to be in the front because the lady looked interesting, and Bee did not want to start a fight. The woman seemed strict, which was good because apparation was no joke. It could kill you if you did it wrong. However, Beata was sure that she would be able to be focused enough to pass her exams. She may not have been good at the rest of school, but she was sure that she would be able to get this done. She crossed her arms over her chest as she listened to the woman speak. Hmm. She seemed suspicious and familiar at the same time. However, Beata threw it out of her mind. Class was dismissed afterwards and she slowly left the classroom and headed to the Dungeons.

Irene was just about to walk over to where she'd left her bag when she was stopped by a student with some questions. The woman gave the student an indulgent smile before replying. "It would be most unwise for most wizards to attempt travel between countries or intercontinentally" she let out a small laugh full of disdain at the thought. "This is a skill in addition to a spell, and most people can only ever hope to be adequate in it, to use it for the occasional trip to the market or to a friend's home down the block. Apparition requires immense deliberation - you need to be able to picture your destination exactly, precisely, and most people cannot do that because most people have the attention span of a Bertie Bott's bean."

Viktor Styx did not know how to feel about Apparition, though he needed to learn it. He had to be able to apparate from place to place. He walked into the Great Hall to see a few other sixth years standing there. He placed his hands in his pockets as Irene Finch introduced herself to the group. He nodded along as she spoke about the headmistress opening up the room to allow them to practice. He had to remember the three words that she spoke about. Destination. Determination. Deliberation. He would have to write those down when he left the great hall. Her sternness made him feel a little comfortable, so he was growing to respect the woman. However, she was not even a professor. She worked in the Ministry. Then the lesson was over. Viktor turned and left, while repeating the words in his mind. Yes, he would need to write this down since his next lesson with his grandfather was next.
