Apparition 1

This was an important milestone in the life of a wizard, and Irene Finch knew that many of the students looked at their license as a taste of the freedom they'd earn on their way to becoming fully trained wizards. With the registration list tucked in a folder that was under her arm, the woman stepped into the room, her heels announcing her presence. She called attendance, making sure that no one had snuck into the room without paying their galleons.

Tucking the folder away, Irene began. "Good afternoon, sixth years. My name is Irene Finch and I'm Head of the Department of Magical Transportation. I'm here on behalf of the Ministry of Magic to prepare you for your apparition exam." She said all of this briskly. Irene was not a lady who liked her time wasted. In truth, she enjoyed teaching apparition to much of the dull paperwork she was often stuck doing as the head of a department.

Walking around as she spoke, Irene's icy blue eyes looked at all of them and none of them at once. "The headmistress has been kind enough to lift the enchantment placed on this room so that you will be able to practice apparating within these walls for the duration of our lessons. But do not attempt to do so in your free time. It would be...unwise to attempt practicing here or elsewhere outside of these lessons" she stated in a very firm tone. With so few students and the furniture against the walls as she'd requested, her voice carried easily around the large room.

The woman focused on a student who'd been fidgeting, her blue eyes piercing into the student. "I will warn you from the start that your ability to apparate will have little to do with what house you are in or your blood status. Your ability to apparate will, solely, depend on your ability to focus on the three Ds: Destination. Determination. Deliberation." She enunciated each word. "There are no shortcuts. If you fail to grasp these concepts, you will fail your exam. First, you must choose your destination." She'd made a quick scan and found the perfect landing point. " Next, you will focus your determination and once you feel you are ready..." With a small step, Irene apparated next to one of the sixth years who had been whispering while she was lecturing and continued, "you must move with deliberation like so." She gave the student a sharp look.

Moving towards the front of the room, Irene continued lecturing the students on the concept of apparating. She knew that some were probably expecting to apparate today but she also knew that the foundation for apparating started with this very important information. Soon enough their time was up, and they had done nothing but listen. "Don't forget the 3 Ds. I will see you all next time. A word to the wise: Don't bring anything with you to the next lesson. The less you carry, the easier it will be." With that, she dismissed the students though she waited a few moments longer in the event that any of the students had questions.

Please make sure to register for the course! Remember that these lessons are so that your student can earn a license. Without it, they can't apparate! This is just the first of only three lessons before the exam takes place.

Having a lesson in the great hall is a new experience for the sixth year, but one he's more than prepared for. This is one of the things he has been waiting for a long time to be able to do, getting from one place to another in the blink of an eye? How much better could it get? Well there was all the risk of splinching himself and what have you, but he could deal with that, well maybe not if he actually splinches himself but his mum seems to be able to do it okay and if she can do it surely he can do it. Since his mum was never a very good student and he's one of the top of his class. That makes him better at this right? He hopes so. As the... well she's not a professor actually is she? She's a Ministry official, he wasn't sure there was a professor for this, though he wonders why they would pull her in when as the head she surely has more things to do than this, right? Ah well, he's not totally sure it matters all that much actually. She introduces herself and lays out the expectations which all seem pretty simple and standard for any kind of magical practice, he has yet to encounter any rules that don't make sense to him. His usual nonchalant demeanour fades as he realises she's getting intense and he watches her demonstrate what she's just talked about.

He's eager to get started, but he can't stop the anxiety that creeps up his back at the thought he could get hurt doing this. Still, this milestone, it's a significant one, and it helps to walk young witches and wizards into adulthood, that's what he's heard people say. He wants this. His friends expect his usual confidence, but it's hard to acknowledge it when he feels like this. Is Kael waiting for him outside the hall? Does he want him to be? he wants to get this right. As Irene dismisses the class, he lingers, waiting for the students to leave around him. He hadn't expected to walk away without at least attempting to apparate and it's left him feeling antsy, like he hasn't quite gotten what he came for. He understands the important of preparing mental though, before dicing into something so complex, the woman's parting words echo in his mind and he knows that he'll be back next time, ready to focus with nothing but himself to carry, no anxieties, no worries. Today was all theory, maybe, but the real test will happen, and he's keen on meeting the challenge. @Mikael Nightray

Savannah had a lot on in the immediacy of the semester beginning, she knew she had quidditch soon and was spending a good amount of time, focused on that. But she also had the duelling tournament, she was getting the right professors to help her, organising the pairings and trying to resist the urge to rig it in her favour. She was getting herself together grabbing books and notes ahead of her classes, knowing that while all the extra stuff was important, what was more important was doing well in her exams.

Savannah was so eager to finally be able to learn how to apparate. She had been eager for this for years. As soon as it had felt almost within grasp, and now, by the end of the semester, provided she didn’t spectacularly fail she’d be able to do it. The ravenclaw was in amongst the other sixth years and brought into the hall. She looked at the woman and nodded along at the instructions. They didn’t get to try it in this lesson, but she didn’t really mind, absorbing all of the information that this woman was giving them on it was more than enough to her. She left and headed to the library to do more work.

Gregory knew that he was going to fail apparition. He didn’t know how he’d manage to pass a class where he didn’t know how any of it worked. He arrived at the great hall, and looked to the professor as she began speaking, but couldn’t hear any of it. Couldn’t make out the words she was saying. He could tell it was important, but he got none of it. He was trying desperately to understand, but he couldn’t. The lesson wrapped up and he was just glad they hadn’t had to do anything. Since he was sure he would’ve missed it too. He headed out of the room, wondering if this was really a necessary thing for him to do.

Cassius Styx was relieved that this year would be a little bit of a break from the OWL exams. The NEWTs were next year so while the material might be harder, the necessary cramming would not happen. He glanced over at his cousin as he got ready. He still was in disbelief that Terror got a prefect badge. The head of house must not be all there. Cass would not say a word since he was protective over his. He pinned it to his chest and finished getting ready for class. With that, he got up and left the Slytherin dorms to hopefully make it on time, and sit in the back. He took what he wanted without a planned career. He would figure it out sooner than later.

Cass looked forward tot his one, since this was the Apparition course. He needed to learn to apparate because he did not want to have to floo everywhere, and flying made him nauseous. He walked in the Great Hall and saw a woman that was not a professor. So, she worked for the Ministry named Irene Finch. So, Miss Finch. Her blue eyes looked cold, comparable to some of his own family members. Eerie. He mentally recalled the three Ds. Destination. Determination. Deliberation. Anyone who was anyone should know exactly what those were. He continued to listen until they were free to leave. He could not wait to practice it, when they were here anyway.

Apparating was something Astraea was eager to learn so when she found out they would be having lessons in their sixth year she was very excited. She stood in the Great hall as a woman took attendance before she introduced herself as Irene Finch, a ministry official. I guess it made sense if apparition required a licence that their teacher would be from the government.

Not being able to practice between lessons was annoying, practice was how you got better, Astraea hoped that the instruction they received and the number of lessons provided were sufficient to pass the exam, she would not want to repeat the test at a later date. That would be embarrassing. The first lesson seemed to be mostly theory, focusing on the core principles of apparition, the three Ds. Astraea repeated them in her head, over and over again until they stuck.

Astraea wasn’t happy that the first lesson ended without them at least getting to have one attempt, but she thought about what they had learned and was determined to commit it all to memory so that when she returned for their next lesson. She’d have it down.

Zerrin was a little nervous about apparition. He'd heard a lot of stories about it. It could go really wrong, and that was a bit nervewracking. He took a deep breath, standing with some of his roommates. He watched the lady speak, raising a brow at her speech. Headmistress? That was a little outdated. But perhaps she just had a contract with the school that the latest headmaster hadn't renewed. He ignored it and headed out with everyone else, thinking about the three D's, his eyes falling to Gregory. He should probably do something about that, but he didn't know what. He sighed, running a hand over his hair. This semester was going to be a mess.

Ruto wasn't sure how to feel about learning how to apparate. She was sure it would feel no different to travelling by portkey, but she was sure it would be harder. She was interested however in learning how it was meant to be done. Everyone was able to do it so she knew it couldn't be too hard.

The teen followed her classmates into the Great Hall where a lady from the Ministry spoke to them. She seemed like she knew what she was talking about and this gave Roo a little bit of confidence. She then began talking about what was called the Three D's, which seemed very important. If Roo was to quiz an adult, would they still know this information? She must ask her mother when she could. Soon enough, the lesson came to an end and Roo was able to leave the Great Hall.
