It was the Yule Ball that would top all Yule Balls in Alexis' stay in Hogwarts. She would not have another chance at this next year. This time next year, she and all of her classmates would be outside already, facing the real world. Taking a final look at her reflection in the mirror, she smiled at herself and made her way downstairs. She had met a couple of her friends on the way and some even walked with her as all of them were going to the same destination.
The Ravenclaw reached the Great Hall and as she looked around for her boyfriend, she decided to just go ahead inside and socialize with some classmates to pass the time. After all, this was their last year. She was laughing along with some friends and even spotted Joshua with Yvette that she did not notice that her favorite guy had already arrived.

Xavier was looking forward to his last yule ball ever, or at least, at Hogwarts. His mind was still processing the fact that he was graduating at the end of the year and it would be the last time he would get to experience certain things and events, like tonight. He finished putting on his outfit for the evening and checked his watch, realising he was running a little late. When he finally arrived to the great hall his eyes immediately searched for Alexis, and smiled when he spotted her socialising. He went over to her, wrapping his arms around her waist. "Hey beautiful," he whispered. She looked stunning.

Alexis was just about to respond to a question she was asked when his arms wrapped around her waist. She slightly jumped before she relaxed at the voice that whispered in her ear. She turned in his arms. "Hey handsome.", she replied before placing a kiss on Xavier's cheek. Her favorite guy was here and just like that, her evening was complete.

Xavier grinned at his girlfriend when she planted a kiss on his cheek and he returned one, except this one on the lips. He politely dragged her away from her friends, wanting some alone time with her. "You wanna dance, eat, talk? Your pick," he said, meaning for Alexis to choose one of the options they could do first but also aware that they could do two of those at once. "You look amazing as usual, by the way."

Alexis smiled blissfully at the kiss. Waving goodbye to her friends, she let herself be led by her boyfriend. She was even surprised when this time, there were options as to what they were going to do. "Do you want to talk? I'm surprised at the choices, love.", she teased, squeezing his hand that she was holding. She smiled at his compliment, not even minding the blush on her cheeks. "And you look more handsome tonight if you must know."

Xavier hadn't exactly expected Alexis to choose the talking part, but he shrugged and smiled at her, sneakily leading her to the dance floor as she told him she was surprised at the choices he gave her. "Well, we could dance and talk," he suggested with a wink, still wanting her to have made the choice instead of making himself seem bossy. "And you look more beautiful than ever," he returned kindly, pulling her closer to him. "So what's on your mind?" he asked, figuring that if she wanted to talk, she had to have something going on in that head of hers - nothing new there.

Alexis laughed as she was led to the dance floor. Xavier was really full of surprises. And compliments. "As long as I'm with my favorite guy, I'm all good.", she playfully winked back. She placed her hands on his shoulders when he pulled her closer before they moved to the song. "And you look more handsome than ever.", she added with sincerity, finishing it off with a kiss on his cheek. Asked what was on her mind, she narrowed her eyes playfully. "You, you're in my mind. How's my favorite guy?", she asked simply, her eyes drowning in his gaze.

Xavier shook his head in amusement, happy to be spending time with Alexis again. This year was the hardest, with trying to see her when she wasn’t studying, or busy with prefect and captain duties, or making sure she also had some time to herself. She needed that too. And the boy knew he as going to be there for her, no matter how busy she was, they had made it this far together after all. "I’m glad to hear that," he said softly, smiling down at her. He laughed at her compliment, giving her a peck on the lips. "Thank you, although I could definitely give you compliments all night, maybe we should stop there or I’ll make your cheeks so red they won’t be able to return to their normal colour," he joked. "I’m alright," he said after a moment, wanting to give his girlfriend an honest answer. "Whenever I’m with you, I’m always alright," he added. And that was true. "Alexis, my favourite thing in the world is being with you, by your side, always." As soon as the words left his mouth, he knew he meant it, and he didn’t regret it.

Alexis gave her boyfriend her best smile of the night. He had always been the most amazing boyfriend, despite the busy schedule she had since their sixth year with prefect duties, captaincy adding to the pile, the Hufflepuff was always there for her. Homework buddy, study buddy, quidditch supporter, and her all-time comfort zone. She was grateful for it all. She chuckled into the kiss and her cheeks blushed, even more, when he mentioned them, lightly slapping his chest before snuggled into his embrace. She looked up when he spoke up, locking her gaze into his. Her lips parted as she took in all the words he said, surprised and flattered by them all. "Xav...", she whispered. "I'm here with you always.", she echoed the last word. They would be facing the real world in less than a year and she knew she could do things better with him by her side.

Xavier was not-so-secretly pleased that he was still able to make Alexis blush after four years of being with her. Four whole years and barely having any fights, except the nonsensical odd one or two, although those are really out of jealousy rather than serious events having happened so did they really count? The puff instinctively felt his pocket and smiled slightly to himself, he still had it, he had almost forgotten about the plan that was supposed to take place tonight. It made him nervous thinking about it, so the sooner he came out with it, the better. The night was still young after all, he had time to fix everything if...they didn’t go according to plan. "I’m relieved to hear that Lex, I really am," he said, fidgeting with a strand of her hair as he tucked it behind her ear. When he finally got the courage to, the seventh year gazed in her eyes and took a deep breath. "Alexis," he began, it was now or never. "Back when we got together, I never would have thought that our relationship would survive this long. But it has, and I am so grateful for it. I want you to know that I will always be there for you, no matter what. When you need a shoulder to cry on, a helping hand, or just generally someone to lean on, I’m there. You wouldn’t have to worry about me leaving, because I know for a fact that I won’t." Xavier needed to get all of this out, it helped to build up to what he was about to do next. He needed the courage.

Alexis had never felt secure and safe with a person outside her family. The Ravenclaw always had her brothers to depend on and it was when she came to Hogwarts that she branched out. She made new friends, became best friends with Joshua since their first year, reunited with Noelle on her second year and dated this wonderful Puff from their third year. She slightly noticed him feel something in his pocket, to which she did not pay much attention. The melody was soothing and it was one of the many songs they played on their guitars together. Shivers ran up her spine when Xavier reached up to her hair. She loved it when he did that, tucking her hair behind her ear. Any small gesture so long as they were connected.
What surprised her was when he started talking. He was never this expressive, even when they had a small misunderstanding. Even when he found Joshua kissing her, he did not make any sound but just punched the boy. She inwardly chuckled at that. She did not dwell on the past much for her gaze was captured by his as she listened to him. It was pretty much a confession from him. She knew he loved her but to hear him say those words melted her heart. With a smile, yet curious questioning eyes, she tightened her hold on him. "Thank you, Xav. The words you said, they're beautiful.", she cupped his cheek. "You know I'm not leaving, right? And I am also thankful for everything, I mean everything, you did for me.", she added in a whisper. She wanted to tease him for being expressive tonight but there was something about her boyfriend that told her not to and to just wait. For what, she had no idea.

Once Xavier had started talking, it was as if something had opened inside of him and he couldn't stop the flow of words flying out of his mouth. He himself was surprised that he was expressing so much, maybe it was simply the fact that he was so comfortable around Alexis now that it was difficult not saying anything, especially as they had agreed to tell each other what was going on and what they were thinking. He had never thought of how he felt about her this deeply before, but he'd realised recently how serious their relationship was getting. And although the pair had not exactly spoken about it before, spending their lives together was something that had popped into Xavier's head a lot these days. At first, he hadn't known for what reason, but now he was sure. He knew what it led to and what it meant. "I know," he said slowly, feeling his pocket for the box again. "I know, and that's why...I am about to do this." Xavier pulled out the box from his pocket, and went down on one knee, glancing up at Alexis. "Alexis, I love you. I am so in love with you, and I always will be. I know it might be a bit soon and we're still young, but that does not change the way that I feel, nor will it ever." He paused, opening the box to reveal a ring. "Will you marry me?"

Alexis appreciated everything that Xavier had done for her. And to hear him say those words topped everything that she felt for the Puff. However, she was still puzzled by his sudden declaration that she could not help but asked. "Xav, why -?", she was cut off, however, when Xavier began feeling for his pocket again only to reveal a box. They often gave each other presents so it was not really a surprise to the prefect. However, the unexpected happened. Xavier knelt down, making her gasp aloud. She became speechless at what happened as she listened to him declared his love for the second time. Tears pooled in her eyes when she saw the ring. She could not stop smiling as she gazed back at him. Xavier Mackintosh proposed. "Xav....", she started, too happy to form a coherent sentence. Nodding, she was finally able to utter the single word that would change their lives. "Yes!"
